Are a gift.

It snowed overnight, quite a bit, and I was out shovelling the drive just now. Luckily, it is that light, fluffy snow, not the backbreaking wet stuff. I was about halfway through, when I hear what sounds like a big motorcycle idling.

Along comes Ted, from down the street, with his big-ass new snowblower. He got it a couple of years ago, but our winters haven't been all that snowy the last few seasons. He had my driveway, the sidewalk, and the walkway all cleared in record time.

I used to feel bad last year when he would trundle over do this, until I realized that Ted really just wants to use his snowblower.:) He clears his own drive, and then goes looking for other driveways to clear. He has the machine, and Goddammit, he needs to use that thing as much as possible.

God bless the neighbour with the giant snowblower. A case of beer is on it's way.

you should
blow him.

No, no. He's not like that. He's just a nice, friendly man with a snowblower.

Along comes Lance, from down the street, with his big-ass, Dyson snowblower. He got it a couple of years ago, but our winters haven't been all that snowy the last few seasons. He had my driveway, the sidewalk, and the walkway all cleared in record time.

When I was a kid, living with my parents, the driveway was my job to keep clean. The neighbors were nice folks and had some health issues, so I always did their driveway, too. A couple days after a snow, a homemade pie or cake would turn up from them. It was all good. One year at Christmas, perhaps 1970 or so, the neighbors gave me a Buck 110 folding hunting knife, mostly in appreciation for keeping their drive clean. I still have and use this knife, and am reminded of the people who gave it to me, a long time ago, even though they moved from Alaska to some place down south.

Our block has Duane. He has a lawn care business and had a plow attachment on he rider and a plow on his pickup. He does both sides of the street and the sidwalks in the winter and everybody's grass in the summer. I give him about $20 a season and tells me that I'm being cheated giving him my money. Bluey bakes from he and his wife on occasion as well.

damn, fuzzy.
you hitting the nog?

I'll repeat a snowblower story. A fellow in Minnesota gets tired of nasty winters. He loads his snowblower atop his car and drives south. When people point and ask what the fuck THAT is, he knows he's gone far enough.

We've a little electric snowblower stashed in the shed. With extension cords, it just reaches from our parking areas out to the dirt road that somebody usually clears. No snow yet this season and not enough last season to bother with it. Whew.

We have a plan. If more than 2.in / 50.mm are forecast, we'll jump in the housecar and drive to Palm Springs. Cf the first paragraph above.
