I was obviously too pessimistic, which I chalk up to 1) 2016 PTSD; and 2) my failure to appreciate how much Republican turnout would fall off. I knew Moore's history was close races because even before this latest controversy he's been a lightning rod for a lot of people, but I guess he just pushed too many voters too far this time.

Ordinarily I'd say Jones will have a real uphill battle winning again when he's up for a full term, but as long as Orange Julius is hovering in the mid-30s, the Dems ought to be competitive everywhere.

Just because he didn't win the election, doesn't mean that he can't use it to his advantage. It's just a matter of making yourself as loud and recognisable as possible, so that after the election you're so well known that you have plenty of opportunities for fame.
