But it does have a great deal of impact. Those who believe that their every sin is absolved will take the opportunity to commit the most heinous acts, secure in the knowledge that they still get to go to Heaven.

Most Christians do not think their every sin is absolved - Just forgiven. If my son does something that requires consequences I can forgive him but still require consequences. If people want to continue doing heinous acts I would have to question if they really had turned their life over to him.

1 John 2:6 and other verses tell us that we are to live like him. While we can't be perfect it is a way to guide our lives to do better. :rose:

This thread immediately made me think of Pascal's wager.

Let us then examine this point, and say, "God is, or He is not." But to which side shall we incline? Reason can decide nothing here. There is an infinite chaos which separated us. A game is being played at the extremity of this infinite distance where heads or tails will turn up. What will you wager?

It is not a heads or tails decision it is a heart, soul, and mind decision. I wager my life.

The only consequence that a Christian is free of is the penalty of hell when he or she dies. We still have to live with the consequences here for the most part. You make some good points here. Thanks for your insight.

A Born Again Christian is forgiven of their sins, however, they have a new nature deep inside them that is very real and that seeks to please God. They aren't going to WANT to sin, they are going to want to avoid it as much as possible and repent and ask for forgiveness. If a person can sin and never feel bad about it, I would doubt that they have a real relationship with God. God convicts His children and He WILL punish them in this life. He even reserves the right to KILL them and bring them home early if they utterly refuse to repent.

You don't need to sin to do horrible things, like commit genocide for heresy or blasphemy, or cut up and beat your children because the scriptures tell you to.

No Christian need concern themselves with pollution, loss of habitat or climate change, because Genesis 3:17 tells them that the Earth is cursed by God, and fucking up the planet is not a sin.

1Co 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

Genocide is a sin, blasphemy is a sin, cutting up and beating children is a sin.

Self defense is not a sin. Spanking a child is not a sin either. Those are both good things.

We should take care of the earth, I agree, but it also needs to be balanced with economic prosperity, and it certainly shouldn't rise to the level of earth worship like many of these environmentalists. Climate change is NOT caused by man. The data is being manipulated by these scientists. They are taking readings from inappropriate places and then changing the data that doesn't agree. E.g. putting thermometers in ships and bouys. The ship's reading is going to be a bit higher because it generates heat in the ship. So the scientists are adjusting the readings on the bouys to match the reading on the ship. They are also taking reading from cities and high populated areas which are going to be warming than low populated areas. The data is being manipulated. The Satellite data is MORE accurate and shows no global warming. It's all a political thing.

Fifteen sentences, and fifteen lies. At least you're consistent.

Anybody can take scripture and use it, usually out of context, to make their actions seem "acceptable."

In Genesis 3:17 he tells us we have to toil and sweat in order to bring forth food from the earth because of sin. It doesn't say we should "F" up the planet. Sometimes I want to scream "use some common sense." Actually we should take care of it because of this.

Everybody reads the bible through the glasses of their own bias, me included. I believe God is love. Therefore what he does or asks us to do is for love. We don't need to beat children or kill.

In the New Testament, we move into an era in which the " holy war" type of judgment becomes unthinkable. Why? Jesus tells us in John 18:36: "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here" (John 18:36).

The implication is plain. God no longer executes His judgment by means of the weapons of worldly soldiers. Instead, He punishes His enemies with the "sword of the Spirit," which is His Word (Ephesians 6:17).

Read the whole book. It's riveting!
