Interesting. How did we decide that Mr. Obama was black? His mother was white. He's biracial, not black. It's actually offensive, if you think about it, yes? Did Mr. Obama just decide he was "black"? Did we decide to assent to that, even though he's clearly not? Is it "cooler" for him to be black? I don't know. I still think Mr. Clinton was our first "black"President, no?
Miss Markle is pretty and seems like a nice person. So what is she? Her dad was white and her mom was black.
I hope we will get past this, but i doubt it. It is getting worse actually, yes? I don't see what significance a person's race is as President. We can't say things are better now for society because we have a black President.

Until 1967, when the Supreme Court kicked out a Virginia "one-drop" law, one drop of black blood (genetic material) was enough to classify someone as black. Some folks haven't given up that standard. I think Obama formally identifies as black, which would be his privilege to do. I think Meghan Markle just identifies as mixed ancestry. I don't think she's tied up in knots over a choice. She was given a black father in the Suits TV show.

Race is a positive identity factor, not a negative. Blacks are extremely overrepresented in advertising. I've done informal counts and at least a third of people in TV advertising are black, while they are only 13% of the overall population.
