The Infamous Russian Dossier

ObTopic: Steele, compiler of the dossier, now says the report is up to 90% accurate, and that he, a respected MI6 agent for decades, was shocked by what he turned up. Discuss. (Sorry, this tablet doesn't let me copy-n-paste links.)

It doesn't matter whether or not it's true. Who paid for it is much more important.

I guess their defense can be, "Everyone who made up our campaign staff, from the candidate on down, are too clueless about morals and US law to know we were doing anything wrong."
At least that will get them out of the treason issue.

I really wonder how useful Trump's "extreme vetting" of immigrants will be when you consider he couldn't even perform basic vetting on his staff.

They've damned themselves with faint praise.

The way the information was described to him suggested that it wasn't publicly available information. Yes, it could have been something from the Kremlin about conversations Clinton had with Russia which might not have been illegally obtained.
But if it was from a source in the US it would have been illegally obtained for it to be "highly sensitive".

The latter is not necessarily true. "highly sensitive" is not a legal national security classification. It's a generic description. And the discussion never got to the point that would have allowed Trump Jr. to determine whether or not it fit your very acknowledgement of "might not have been illegally obtained."

Highly sensitive and/or not publicly available is irrelevant.

The founder of Fusion GPS told the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday that he was upset over former FBI Director James Comey’s decision to reopen the Hillary Clinton email investigation just before Election Day, a source familiar with the testimony tells The Daily Caller.

...As part of the dossier project, which was funded by the Clinton campaign and DNC, Simpson and the dossier’s author, Christopher Steele, briefed numerous Beltway reporters about allegations in the document.

...Steele gave an interview via Skype to David Corn, a reporter at Mother Jones. Corn published an Oct. 31, 2016 article that vaguely described Steele’s allegations, though without naming the retired spook.

The article was published three days after Comey sent a letter to Congress re-opening the FBI’s investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server. Comey made the controversial decision after emails were discovered on a laptop shared by Clinton aide Huma Abedin and her husband Anthony Weiner.

How can public information be highly sensitive? Of course it might have been at one time, but if it's public, it's no longer sensitive because anyone in the country with the desire to can know about it.

But of course.

For a hat trick, the final recipient gets someone else, like its target or some other enemies, to pay for it. Was anybody here that smart? Maybe the Washington Free Beacon people?

FBI has not verified Trump dossier

FBI and Justice Department officials have told congressional investigators in recent days that they have not been able to verify or corroborate the substantive allegations of collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign outlined in the Trump dossier.

The FBI received the first installment of the dossier in July 2016. It received later installments as they were written at the height of the presidential campaign, which means the bureau has had more than a year to investigate the allegations in the document. The dossier was financed by the Hillary Clinton campaign and compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele.

An August 24, 2017 subpoena from the House Intelligence Committee to the FBI and Justice Department asked for information on the bureau's efforts to validate the dossier. Specifically, the subpoena demanded "any documents, if they exist, that memorialize DOJ and/or FBI efforts to corroborate, validate, or evaluate information provided by Mr. Steele and/or sub-sources and/or contained in the 'Trump Dossier.'"

According to sources familiar with the matter, neither the FBI nor the Justice Department has provided documents in response to that part of the committee's subpoena. But in face-to-face briefings with congressional staff, according to those sources, FBI and DOJ officials have said they cannot verify the dossier's charges of a conspiracy between the Russian government and the Trump campaign.

Report: DOJ And FBI Haven’t Verified Salacious Parts Of The Trump Dossier

The DOJ also reportedly cited the dossier in an application for a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act warrant obtained in Sept. 2016 against former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

Page is accused in the dossier of being the Trump campaign’s backchannel to the Kremlin for the collusion effort. The dossier claims that he met secretly in Moscow in July 2016 with Kremlin insiders to discuss lifting sanctions against Russia if Trump won the presidency.

Page, who met with the House Intelligence Committee earlier this month, has denied Steele’s claims.

The Examiner’s report would suggest that federal officials have also not corroborated the allegation about Page.

The WE piece is opinion, not reporting. The DC, slimy as usual, echoes WE but calls it a report. These are actual Fake News sites, y'know.

If the "Deep State" DoJ and FBI haven't verified the dossier, haven't provided a smoking gun to eliminate Tromp, haven't even fabricated evidence to obtain a "nice clean hit" on POTUS, then maybe they AREN'T tools of the socialist (D) conspiracy, as many on the right have charged.

You can't have it both ways, boychiks. Either the alphabet agencies are all covering-up for Obama and Clintons and conspiring against Tromp (but for some reason haven't brought him down yet), or they really are mostly dedicated to fulfilling their sometimes-noxious missions. Seems like you're fixated on a madonna-or-whore model of national security. Curious.

Now that bank records evidence has shown Hillary Clinton campaign/DNC-retained smear hacks extraordinaire Fusion GPS outright paid journalists to pen FAKE NEWS anti-Trump accounts and to hype the FAKE NEWS Steele Dossier (as they are also on financial record paying Steele himself to pimp his FAKE NEWS dossier to the media and the totally gullible, statist deep state), it's good to look back a bit and clearly see this is simply smearing SOP for the FAKE NEWS-for-hire bozos at Fusion GPS...

Read on and objectively wonder no more about the exact and only purpose of the infamous Russian Dossier.

This whole "It's the Russian's" is pretty much blowing up in Hillary's face. Of course had the outcome of the election been different NONE of this would have ever come to light.

To be alive at this moment in history is a joy. Watching both the democrat and republican entrenched become apocalyptic is a wonder to behold.

The Clinton campaign did not collude with Russia. Vladimir Putin said so to Donald Trump, and he believes him.

Not Trump (thank God). He is an idiot (some prefer moron), a fact that exists regardless of me.
