It seems to be the all the rage these days. So much so that one doesn't know quite what to believe.
Over the years, here on this board, I have witnessed so many women, and the men that want to suck up, jump to the 'guilty' conclusion at first allegation only to be proven bullshit later. These were high profile cases pumped by the press. The GA truck drive, Kobe Bryant, the NC Lacrosse team. The list goes on.
The problem is that I'm certain that many claims are true, I'm just not inclined to rush to verdict.
The longer the time span between event and accusation, the less inclined I am to sympathize with the accuser. Even more so when the individual accused is someone of wealth (power is implied there). My thoughts begin to sway on the side of the accuser when the accused has paid out multiple times in the past. Who is so stupid as to put themselves in a compromising position time after time?
There was a study done some time ago (I posted the link way back when) done by the FBI that concluded that up to 20% of all rape claims were false. I don't think it's that high, but even the rape victim advocates admit that the number may be as high as 10%. I haven't seen any credible, impartial, study concerning sexual assault. And concerning that subject, sexual assault, just what is that legally? From my reading the definition varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. And further, without any forensic evidence it comes down to 'one says this, the other that' (clearly sexual assault and/or rape is NOT restricted to heterosexual individuals).
Getting to the point, I see this flood of sexual misbehavior/assault/rape accusations in the press and I can't help but wonder how many of the accusers are just jumping on a bandwagon?
