So I got a letter yesterday telling me that I "might' have been caught up in the EquiFax hack. It referred me to a website (theirs) where I might find out if my information may have been compromised.

So I went there and sure enough it had been. (And if you have any credit at all it would have been.)

Along with this 'check' came an offer for 'free' credit reporting and credit tracking.............for the first year anyway.

They're playing the long game here. taking it in the shorts in the short term while looking for the long term revenue. Quite clever on their part. I wonder what the "re-up" rate is going to be when the free ride is over.

Oh, and Yes, I did sign up. I've already got a really good service but I'll let the inept show me what they got now. Kinda a comparison shopping experiment.

Speaking of hackers. How's your hacker doing hunting down all the names and info of your internet enemies, old man?

*chuckles*

He must be good if he hadn't produced results from a vbulliten message board.

*chuckles*

Why don't you ask Laurel what's going on. As per my OP in the "Management" thread I PM'd her exactly what's going on. And now that it's all in the PM circuit there isn't a damn thing she can do about it. I even gave her my permission to make the PM public or pass it on to any interested party.

Back to the OP. I wonder how many people will sign up in a year.

A sure fire sign I should be wary was when someone said, "Trust me, it'll be fine!"

I was particularly amused when they said that "due to the "overwhelming" public interest" in their offer I may not receive confirmation for up to 48 hrs. Took a couple of minutes. I' so 'special.'

Haven't received the letter yet. Well, haven't been to our post office box yet this week. [dire medical news deleted] If it arrives, will we sign up? I dunno -- what are the catches and gotchas?

Basically you have to sign up and you get their premier service for free.............for the first year.

That was obvious to anyone with half a brain when they made the announcement of the "free" offer Sept 7.

Hopefully a number of members of congress had their ID's stolen and will have their lives wrecked so congress will do what they should do.
Otherwise, nothing will change.
