At an investment conference in New York last week, several influential billionaires made their feelings about President Donald Trump known, with one major GOP donor lamenting the state of the country saying it has become “awful” under the current White House inhabitant.

In a speech documented by New York magazine, billionaire hedge fund manager Seth Klarman — CEO of the Baupost Group — told assembled attendees that Trump is a “threat to democracy.”

“The president is a threat to democracy. He has attacked journalists and he’s threatening to take away NBC’s license,” Klarman can be heard saying in audio recorded at the Robin Hood Investment Conference. “He’s attacking judges. He’s violating all sorts of democratic norms, from the emoluments clause to questioning the election and threatening to lock up his opponent. People don’t focus on this but Nazi Germany had a constitution before Hitler came to power and at the end of the war they had the exact same constitution. It lasted all the way through, but democracy didn’t.”

Billionaire real estate mogul Barry Sternlicht, who boasted that he has golfed with Trump, is unimpressed with his golfing buddy as president.

“I expected him to go to the middle, because I thought he wanted to be great,” he explained in a recording that was supposed to be off the record.. “I played [golf] with Donald Trump and his golf game is like his presidency. He’s amusing as my friend, but he’s not very amusing as president of the United States. And I’m a Republican.”

President Donald Trump got a later start than usual on Twitter Sunday morning, claiming that the GOP has joined him in his anger at Hillary Clinton’s supposed involvement in a dossier that still could prove damaging to the president.

According to the tweeting president, Clinton is personally responsible for the dossier that was initially financed by a conservative critic.

Writing on Twitter, Trump claimed, “Never seen such Republican ANGER & UNITY as I have concerning the lack of investigation on Clinton made Fake Dossier (now $12,000,000?),….”

Moments later he added, “…the Uranium to Russia deal, the 33,000 plus deleted Emails, the Comey fix and so much more. Instead they look at phony Trump/Russia “collusion,” which doesn’t exist. The Dems are using this terrible (and bad for our country) Witch Hunt for evil politics, but the R’s …are now fighting back like never before. There is so much GUILT by Democrats/Clinton, and now the facts are pouring out. DO SOMETHING!”

Sources did not say if charges or indictments had been returned against the party however.

The indictment against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his longtime colleague Rick Gates has been released — and it includes 12 counts, including charges of money laundering, tax evasion and conspiracy against the United States.

The indictment represents the first charges stemming from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of possible Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

The indictment, which was released on Monday morning, accuses Manafort and Gates of engaging in a money laundering conspiracy over a span of a decade related to their work for a Kremlin-backed political party in Ukraine. Gates served as served as his deputy in the Trump campaign

“Manafort and Gates generated tens of millions of dollars in income as a result of their Ukraine work,” the indictment alleges. “In order to hide Ukraine payments from United States authorities, from approximately 2006 through at least 2016, Manafort and Gates laundered money through scores of United States and foreign corporations, partnerships and bank accounts.”

The indictment’s timeline suggests that Manafort was engaged in an illegal conspiracy even while he was serving as Trump’s campaign manager.

In total, the indictment claims Manafort laundered over $18 million that he used to buy “property, goods, and services in the United States, income that he concealed from the United States Treasury.”

According to sources close the president who spoke with The Washington Post, Trump frustrated his staff by being late to work at the Oval Office. Instead, he “spent the morning playing fuming media critic, legal analyst and crisis communications strategist” along with making calls to his lawyers “repeatedly.”

Supreme Court justices face few ethical guidelines — and Neil Gorsuch seems to be taking advantage

upreme Court Justices are the only federal judges who aren’t forced to follow any formal code of conduct, and Justice Neil Gorsuch seems to be taking advantage of it.

A Politico op-ed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) reported Wednesday that mere days before Gorsuch returned to work for the highest court in the land, he was hobnobbing with an organization funded by Charles and David Koch, who have a vested interest in his decisions.

To make matters worse, the luncheon in which he was a keynote speaker took place at the Trump International Hotel.

“That arrangement was bad enough on its own. But there was another potential conflict of interest created by Justice Gorsuch’s speaking engagement—and it highlights the ongoing ethical issues that threaten the credibility of our nation’s highest court,” Warren wrote.

She went on to explain that this isn’t the first time there have been concerns about the ethics of the Supreme Court. Chief Justice John Roberts owned as much as $500,000 in Time Warner stock while deciding a case about a small television streaming service that would impact his own stock in Time Warner — yet Roberts never recused himself.

As of 2016, Justices Roberts, Stephen Breyer and Samuel Alito owned shares in 53 publicly traded companies, according to transparency group Fix the Court.

Warren closed by explaining Sen. Chris Murphy’s (D-CT) Supreme Court Ethics Act is the way to fix the problem.
