"You know, am I mad at God? Yeah, I'm mad at him," O'Reilly said. "I wish I had more protection. I wish this stuff didn't happen. I can't explain it to you. Yeah, I'm mad at him."

I hope the below is true. Religion has no place in politics, and is the major cause of the current divide we are facing. I, for one, am tired of these supposed Christians that do not have real christian values.

TOGETHER, FOR BETTER OR WORSE

In the end, the politicization of religion could come back to haunt politicians—and church leaders. In fact, surveys of young people show this to be a contributing factor in the rise of the religiously unaffiliated, says Prothero. These so-called “nones,” expected to grow to roughly a quarter of the population in 2050, don’t want to be associated with a party—or politicians—they may not agree with. “I think the vitality of American religion has really been hurt by the recent push toward more and more religion in the political space,” he says. “And there are some evangelicals saying, ‘You know, we made a mistake. We need to get out of this political game, because our brand is being hurt.’”

There needed to be some follow-up questions here.

What, precisely, is he mad about?

Mad that he got caught? Mad that God did not continue to help him obscure his indiscretions? Mad that God didn't stop him from committing the indiscretions in the first place?

I get the feeling that he feels he can simply invoke the name of god, and folks will line up to support him no matter how unchristian the idea of being mad at god is.

Seems like a logical defense mechanism. Lots of scumbags have been using religion as a excuse for being a shitty person. Forever really.

Maybe Bill should have a sitdown with Job.

Poor little persecuted Bill....

What's the world coming to when god won't protect a rich guy from sexually harassing his coworkers?

Truth.

I bet he could "quote" some verses show support for his actions. Picking, choosing, twisting, and ignoring certain passages in the Bible has become the norm.

He's mad at God and then lashes out at the New York Times. Since when did God become a managing editor?

Is it possible someone who hates you for hate's sake could unfairly accuse you of a crime? Sure. But multiple people who've worked with you for years who single you out? In that case God and the New York Times are the least of your problems. Make a persuasive case for the women's alleged vendettas or keep writing settlement checks and shut the fuck up.

God is a job title, not a proper name. Perhaps Mr O'Reilly is mad at the wrong god. He's lashing out at Lord {JHWH} when actually Loki the Trickster has been fucking with him. Sad.

Au contraire, mon cher. Religion is always intensely political. A group's theology reflects its social-political structure. Priests, preachers, pundits, have pushed their politics for many millennia. Back in the day were Priest-Kings. The British monarch heads the Church of England.

Problem here comes from Xians cherry-picking their beliefs and shoving them down our throats like oral rapists. Yeshua allegedly told his followers to abandon their families and live together in communism. Don't see much of that around now, hey? Nor that turn-the-other-cheek stuff, nor rich-guys-go-to-hell, etc.

The fun with religions based on texts (rather than rituals and ecstatic visions) is that any passage can be selected to support any viewpoint. Thus faith justifies all sorts of nasty political bullshit -- and vice-versa. You want religion out of politics? Try to get politics out of religion. Good luck.
