When I was a kids my grandfather used to say to me that everyone was special or unique in their own way.

I am a people watcher. People fascinate me.

What do you think is unique about you?

bigrednz's dad could play anything and make it musical. Harmonica, a blade of grass, spoons, a rubber band guitar. It was his party piece and charmed so many with it. :)

My personal biological components may be similar to others (the poor sods) but not identical. My accumulation of life experiences and other fuckups is likely similar to but different from others' lives. Others may possess other but similar selections of arts, crafts, instruments, appurtenances, etc.

That's external. What about inside? Are my thoughts, emotions, fetishes, mad desires very different from all others of my age and background? Are there others with similar mindsets (the poor sods)? Or am I psychically unique? Oy.

What makes me unique is that I emigrated from my home nearly 20 years ago, and ever since - I’ve not belonged anywhere. It is impossible to be anchored. I can never, ever blend in or belong in my new home. When meeting new people I’m always regarded with awe, never taken at face value. I will never NOT be asked the same bank of questions for the rest of my life, no matter how tired I am of answering them. Where are you from? How long have you lived here? What brought you here? I will always be a stranger in a strange land.

And it’s true - you can never go home again. Unanchored is how I’ve been forced to live my life, but I’ve done it by making sure I’m clear with myself about who I am. Learning that has taught me the most rewarding thing yet is just being - and I can do that anywhere.

I've only been away from my home for a bit more than a year, but your post touched me.:rose:

Other than the obvious uniqueness of my red hair, I am the opposite of this, Tink. I moved around a tremendous amount growing up, and later became uneasy living in a certain place for too long.

My ability to make dick jokes out of nearly every sentence.

It's a cultivated skill.

How do you catch a unique squirrel?

unique up on it

How do you catch a tame squirrel?

<------- Not so unique!

I have an unusually good memory for maps, directions, etc. On long trips I usually just need to look up what exit(s) to take. The rest is in my head. This comes in handy when you're in a place like Metro Dallas and there's adverse traffic.

I never thought this was a big deal, but I've learned there are a lot of people who can't read a map at all, and with GPS everywhere now it almost seems like a dying skill.

No fucking kidding about Metro Dallas roadways. I thought Houston roads had no rhyme or reason but Dallas is another order of magnitude fucked up.

Of course we're all made up of the same things and in a world with 7 billion people no one thing is going to be unique.

However, the sum total of each of us is unique. Our own little snowflake lives are unique.

I love being this mixture of unique and the "Common Man".

Yea, but we're watching you closely. You may not make another 15 years here.

And it’s true - you can never go home again.
Yes you can, if you really want to. We retired to Florida, see already a similarity, from Illinois for 23 happy years. Because of health and loving kids, we are home again. Okay, a different home, yet near where we raised our own family and near where I was raised.
It ain't Kansas, but it's home.

Me too
Yet
Who knows when I will make an innocuous remark, and then I can't say that anymore.

And we are proud of you for this. It takes a big prick to be a dick.

Wife bought me a GPS. It's still in the old box. When traveling to someplace new, I glance at my free insurance co atlas, toss it in the back seat, and go. I've even taken short cuts with a large RV that way, sensing it's the way to go.
Maybe I'm part Davy Crocket or Lewis and Clark Kent.

On those occasions when I got sorta lost, we found some great fishin holes and camp grounds. That's unique.

I wasn't able to drive when we moved back to Illinois. I told my son how to go and he set his GPS. When we were headed for the St Louis arch, 50 miles west of my route, I shouted turn the next exit to the right. He said the GPS will say I'm off route.
I said this is your father speaking. Turn right here on I-255 and stay right when it says Chicago.

What would that be?

The combination of my ancestors genes being passed down to me.

Usually only Hash needs to know this info so I’ll decline to give you the details.

How so?
It's just a little blush, eyeshadow and lipstick.

oooooh..."Genetic"! I thought you said "generic"!

As if I go generic for makeup on my face! I get a rash just looking at the discount aisle in target. :(
