I search the earth for good writing and fell over Dunbar two days ago. He's an unknown with a dozen or so New Orleans npir novels at AMAZON.

His style is minimalist and austere. He makes Hemingway and Carver seem like freaks suffering from pressured speech. Dunbar hasn't time for adverbs, adjectrives, and passive verbs.

His books ate cheap. 99 cents to 4 bucks

From CEIME CZAR

CHAPTER I The red glow from the stoplight wrapped around Daisy like a bloody veil. She leaned against the crooked bus-stop sign on Airline Highway, fighting the craving for a cigarette. Crimson nighttime mist swirled about her face. It was warm, almost midnight. She listened for the low mournful horns of the boats on the Mississippi River a mile away and traveled with them down a dark twisting channel in her mind. Her skirt was hiked up high on her thigh. She was working.

Dunbar, Tony (2013-10-29T23:58:59). Crime Czar: a Hard-Boiled New Orleans Legal Thriller (Tubby Dubonnet #5) (The Tubby Dubonnet Series) (Kindle Locations 38-41). booksBnimble Crime and Mystery Fiction. Kindle Edition.

Moving on to a back-pocket alt so soon, James? ;)

I think he may have gotten another 72 hour pass or maybe more this time. I saw where the mod had zinged one of his posts about playing nice and said he had not done so past the limit again. Hence the new old alt.

If the mod was carrying through, he got hit with a week time out yesterday evening (for a comment about you--post 17 of the "you know you've written something good when" thread). But that's just a joke if he's let to come back in the next hour under an alt. This obviously is him. And he obviously can't take strong hints--or control himself.

If only I had a dollar for every time an author who "doesn't use adverbs and adjectives" used an adverb or an adjective.

This alt, and any other he might choose to use are on the same ticket.

If he engages in personal attacks using this alt while on his week long time out, I will be asking for Laurel to permanently ban both.

If I had the power to take care of the time outs myself, this alt would already be permanently banned and the time out on his main identity would be two weeks for violating the ban. I don't want to harass Laurel any more than I have to.

Makes sense. If he could control himself with his main account, he wouldn't need alts.

Permission to enforce bans isn't harassment; and I'd think mods would have permission to make some amount of decisionmaking on their own when it comes to blatant repeat offenders.

Bans should be cubic: 1 week, 3, 9, 27, 81.... It's a nice approach because people who don't learn rapidly run out of lifetime.

That's exponential; cubic would be 1, 8, 27, 64, ...
