I love making candy. Oh sure I don't eat but a smidgen here or there anymore. But you haven't lived until you've tasted my homemade marshmallows... wait that sounds funny, but ya know what, I'm gonna leave it just like I typed it.

Marshmallow, English toffee, nougat, peanut brittle. I've even made those Turkish Delight things. Caramel gives me a bit of difficulty still. Pesky bastard.

It is astounding and amazing. What in hell is honeysuckle doing blooming in October ? It's a special place— a 45° angled, south-facing bank (two of 'em, actually, a couple of miles apart on the bicycle path)— bit it is arresting.


Gawd, I do love the smell of creosote. It reminds me of the summer I spent building railway lines. Beyond that, it always reminds me of summertime on the water; it's the smell of pilings and docks baking in a hot sun. It's a smell that defines salt water.
