Three months ago I made my first submission to Literotica.

I began writing a novella, My Fall and Rise, based on my life experiences because I thought it would be therapeutic. I was not expecting much response or any praise. I just had things I wanted to get off my chest, and Lit seemed as good a place as any to do so.

My thirteenth and final chapter will be published tomorrow.

I would like to thank Laurel, all those who have offered me advice and support, and everyone who has read my story.

Drug addiction is a major theme in my narrative. I have heard from a number of people who have told me that reading my words has helped them in their own battles, or in understanding their loved ones who have faced the struggle. I am humbled by this, and have dedicated my work to them, and to everyone who has fought addiction.

What draws any of us to Literotica is always interesting to me. Writing can be cathartic for the writer, but the magic really happens when a reader finds it cathartic, too. Congratulations on finishing your story. That always feels good, too!

Congratulations. Writing can be very cathartic like that and regardless of readers, it can really help ones self just thinking these things thru and expressing them. It can be tough exposing yourself so openly but I think what you get out of it yourself is what makes it worthwhile. So congratulations again.

Well at least NT you have discovered your area of expertise.

I thought it was competently written which puts it into the top 1 or 2% of Lit offerings at worst. It was however substantially reportage rather than fiction - at least it seemed so. I read all 13 chapters and maintained interest, though I thought some of the chapters could have been combined. I would like to see the author try her hand at more imaginary fiction before being either too critical or too praising. She does however have the necessary tools to make the attempt. Solid first effort.

I buy lotsa books every month. About half are erotic and half are everything else. I delete most of what I buy, because most writers aew crap but a few know how to start then fail. I struggler, too, but there is a path to Heaven.

Two days ago I walked outta the wilderness and fell over the path. I re-wrote a chaper using the path, and the improvement is stunning. Its like discovering sonata-allegro form in music. No more kitten on the keyboard.

I appreciate your critique, I think you make very valid points.

Has anyone ever suggested that Lit add a category for memoirs?

Agreed. Now that the autobiographical work has reached a conclusion, I hope MelissaBaby can find other stories to tell.

She has a very efficient and fast-paced style that I like. Her use of a disjointed timeline between chapters was arranged with incredible skill for a first work. While other authors might have tried to make her story gritty and oppressive, she handles dark and heavy subject matter with a lightness and energy that makes them palatable. It would really be a shame if this was the last we had from her.

I hope I have more stories to tell as well.

I came up with the idea for the alternating timeline because I felt that, if told in a straight chronological story, the first half would be too downbeat, and I wouldn't have any readers left for the second half.
