Powerful people abusing people

Harvey Weinstein does illustrate what powerful people can do, how they can do nondisclosure agreements to hide terrible activities. He was using his power and his money but also with the non-disclosure agreements he kept the story from coming out.

You know who else used money and non-disclosure agreements to hide the abuse of women? That would be Roger Ailes, late head of Fox News. So this is not a left or right issue. It's an abuse of power issue.

I think nondisclosures about bad personal behavior are a terrible idea. I worked in a company where we had to sign one to work there about not disparaging the leadership. Guess what, they were awful people who were doing a bad job, and they didn't want it to get out.

I agree. It's not a left-right issue, but the point on this thread is that Kujack tried to make it a left issue from the get go. That's why Kujack deserves all the raspberries sent his way on this thread.

Maybe fucking the contestant is statutory rape; maybe it isn't. That depends on the local laws. In CA, the age of consent is 18 but in some states it is 16.

Sexual harassment in work or potential work situations is defined as someone in a position of power taking advantage of an actual or potential work subordinate. The term "elitism" has different connotations today.

The extreme right wing has come to define elitists as those who use evidence, logic, and discourse to make decisions rather than using talking points borne in the reptilian portion of the human brain. This portion of the populations seems hell-bent on dumbing down our educational system and government to something similar to what fundamentalist Muslims promote in certain countries. For extreme right-wingers in the Christian and Islamic worlds, elitism has become synonymous with intellectualism. Chairman Mao really worked that angle in his day, also, so this is not necessarily limited to religious extremists.

Of course, elitism can also mean someone who cares very little for those who are perceived to be "below their station" in life. Having known several people who worked in the Trump Organization and various other companies that emphasize wealth and status in their organizational structure, this type of elitism continues to persist.

Sexual harassment is based on power, not either of these definitions of elitism. It crosses the line into sexual assault when the harasser lays hands or physically restrains the victim, or when the harasser violates exposure laws.

Another poster on this thread, Boxlicker, said he would have done the same thing if he had Weinstein's opportunities. Boxlicker is admitting to aspirations that violate workplace ethics and possibly violate sexual assault laws.

Missing the point

Point of Harvey Weinstein and others is that men will use their power to seduce and rape women against their will
Unfortunately this has happened throughout history and is wrong
But this is different because this was covered up by Hollywood Elite Four decades including starlets and Men actors in The Guild reporters from both print and broadcast media who all new and refused to report it
The actors themselves joked about it at the Oscars
Politicians courted him because he would give money to them they knew and still they took his money
There was so much hypocrisy to go around and the real problem is the silence that could have prevented so many women from being abused
Hollywood and the media should be very ashamed
