Former skinhead and Life After Hate co-founder Christian Picciolini says that an Obama-era federal grant his organization received to help combat "far-right" extremism was rescinded under the Trump administration shortly after President Donald Trump took office.

"Under President Obama, my organization, Life After Hate, was awarded a $400,000 grant to help combat far-right extremism. And when President Trump took office, immediately that grant was rescinded," Picciolini told CBS News' John Dickerson on "Face the Nation" Sunday.

Homeland security said the award had been rescinded following a normal review process, and not as a result of ideology, The New York Times reported. The Times also reports that a former government official with knowledge of the grant said it was revoked in response to Twitter posts critical of Mr. Trump by Picciolini himself.

DHS spokesman David Lapan told CBS News, however, that Picciolini's assessment that the grant was "immediately" rescinded by the administration is "inaccurate."

"The grants initially announced in January were reviewed upon direction -- and with new guidance from then-Secretary [John] Kelly, and awardees were announced in late June," Lapan said in a statement.

The excuse the grant wasn't immediately rescinded is the point we should take away from this. Not that the grant, which had success in preventing people from joining white supremacist groups or getting people out of said groups, was not renewed.

The soap bubble ego and petty tantrums thrown by the con artist will once again come back to haunt this nation.

Why should one group of assholes be singled out? There are others, such as Antifa and BLM who are just as bad. And, to repeat what has been pointed out many times before, they were the ones who initiated the violence in Charlottesville. :(

I can remember when punching Nazis was considered too soft, shooting was the preferred way of dealing with those assholes.

That was back when there were real Nazi's not just poser Nazis and the term Nazi actually meant something other than just another pejorative term that = anything Dems don't like and anyone who disagrees with them.

As far as I'm concerned people carrying Nazi flags and Nazi tattoos are just moving targets, my pacifism has some limits.

One question, is there a grant of Federal dollars available for combatting far left groups?

A hammer and sickle are tools for productivity.

A Swastika is not.

Exactly how many people have Antifa shot or run over and killed?

Prove that Antifa started the physical violence.

If people invade your town chanting what they did, they are inciting violence and begging to be punched.

If there weren't fascists, there wouldn't be Antifa. Pretty simple

Che teeshirts and posters have been popular for 20 years - strawman argument.

Those same "edgy" college students from 20 years ago are now pushing 40 and wondering what the fuck happened to this country.

Its easy for the youth to have strong inflexible stances - they don't know any better.

Wait a generation of 9 to 5 work, bills, mortgages, kids, and life and their tune changes. Age of aquarius hippies, new world order 80's kids, seattle grunge/depeche mode suicidal 90's shmucks, and turn of the millennia lost boys and girls - each one thought they were the leading edge of counter-culture and beating their own drum. Now they are all part of the homogenous mess of the main stream.

So no, I don't pay attention to bullshit whining from the 18-28 years olds who fly either rainbow flags and eat granola or the opposite end of pseudo-marxist spewing college-commies.

But Nazi-ism/fascism? That's the barometer point where you should look around you and go, "hey, how the fuck did end up THIS far down the spectrum!?!?" - and then back the fuck up and move out of mom and dad's basement.

My 2 cents

Look, someone's been in the memes again...

A question was asked, the answer applies.

As to age and stupidity, no demographic has a corner in the stupid market. The two rails of European totalitarian thought, communism and fascism, have been and remain popular with Americans unhappy with something or another. Both are deplorable.

Excusing either one, even declining to recognize either one as a problem, is a sure sign of a "useful idiot".

Yes, but one (communism) is considered to be toothless in the United States currently, and fascism is militantly in the streets and being whispered in the White House. It should be fairly obvious which one we should be concentrating resistance to at the moment.

Neither is toothless. Both are totalitarian. Both must be opposed.

What are you, eighteen? You don't display any knowledge of communism and its history of rise and fall. Not even the supposedly communist countries are following its philosophies anymore. It's defunct and the only people who think it has any power are dummies who need a fake boogeyman to swing their plastic swords at.

I'll stick with my first response to you and just consider that you have no experience in or knowledge of that actual workings of political philosophies--or of what is a present danger as opposed to an empty boogeyman.

Hate groups increased during Obama's tenure, but this guy is claiming that he lost funding after Trump took office. Could be the DHS just realized the money would be spent better elsewhere maybe even other people who do the same thing only better. I'd like to know what DHS is doing about antifa and the like.

I'm curious all these people rioting over statues of Democrat rebels why didn't they ask the former President to start taking them down?

Well, another day goes by for the leftists in the United States to find something to bitch about and be miserable.

Can you imagine how violently the white supremacists would have reacted to that, considering how they are reacting now?

Trump could have taken a stand for America's veterans...but he didn't.

Trump could have taken a stand for America's workers...but he didn't.

Trump could have taken a stand for America's teachers...but he didn't.

Trump could have taken a stand for America's scientists...but he didn't.

Trump could have taken a stand for America's NATO allies...but he didn't.

However, he DOES seem to be willing to take a stand for America's hate groups!!!
