A Democratic state senator in Missouri is facing resignation calls for posting on Facebook Thursday that she hopes President Trump is assassinated.

Boxlicker, we live in an internet world of confirmation bias.

Especially if you use Google and not another search engine, someone whose sympathies lie with the Left are always going to be provided with supporting evidence and any evidence produced in contradiction will be viewed with grave skepticism. We can no longer talk to each other and reach common ground. Increasingly, I just state my case and move on. If you look at any thread more than three pages long it becomes one, two, maybe three people locked into a, "No that's not true," death spiral punctuated by the disruptive antics of the trolls (who imho behave exactly like Antifa).

I view most things with scepticism - it's literally my job. That's why I was more inclined to go with the stories of those who were the most neutral.
I'm willing to accept contra arguments that are valid ( although my proviso above of fighting groups vs fighting an ideology stands). I haven't seen any valid arguments. The link recommended by BL was about 80% political diatribe, and no real evidence of his point.

But tell me, other than by other Muslims, where are Muslims being attacked in any significant number and for bonus points, you could compare that to the international targeting of Jews and to be elevated to teacher's pet, let us throw in attacks on Christians...

It is one thing to be skeptical and neutral, but as I just pointed out in someone's "scorecard" thread, having posted here since 1999, I am well aware of the phenomenon of claiming to be one who goes out of their way to fully understand each issue leading always to a conclusion that never falls anywhere near the conservative spectrum.


But, I do apologize for realizing that you were talking about the world, yet taking time to point out in a thread focused on the US, that in the US, we don't do that...

If the media and progressives were honest with themselves and the public, they would admit that the left has wanted a “Charlottesville” for a long time. It was the perfect opportunity to battle “alt-right” white-supremacist-Nazis while furnishing a powerful optic to conflate racism with conservatism. It also aptly fits the meme that all conservatives, by dint of disagreeing with the tenets of liberalism, are in essence, racists as well.

In his latest response to the riots, President Trump tried to separate the term “alt-right” from the Nazis and white supremacists present at the Unite the Right rally.

Leftists, liberals, Democrats, progressives, and the media (it’s all the same) wanted these riots -- and in keeping with their longstanding efforts to control the national conversation, they want the Nazis and white supremacists labeled as “alt-right.” Some conservatives have no problem with this.

I disagree; as I said, part of this entire exercise is the left’s attempt to define the conversation. It is all about labels -- that’s how leftists became liberals became progressives in the first place. They want every description of Nazis and white supremacists to include the descriptor, “alt-right” because then anyone who defines himself as a man of the right can more easily be transformed into a Nazi for the benefit of the less informed.

The riots were not about a statue and it was not about the alt-right. Antifa (an umbrella term for different nominally “anti-fascist” groups) has been itching for a real fight for a long time. It was only fun attacking Trump supporters for so long (as they did in Seattle* over the weekend), and their exposure in the press has been diminishing. What’s the point of rioting if you can’t get your group on CNN? Sure, you can’t let your identity be known because of potential criminal charges but the mask takes care of that. Then, you can tell your friends for years that you were there that day battling white oppression and fascism. You were Antifa! You were Black Lives Matter!

A few white supremacists and Nazis gathered in Charlottesville, and the whole country is now on edge. The mistake we made is giving them attention as if they represent something more than a fringe of a fringe. They do not. Ninety nine percent of Americans – including the President – appropriately denounce them and their worldview.

The white supremacists are rejected by the mainstream media, the entertainment industry, colleges, universities, public schools, and the people, so how did 50 nut cases capture the attention of the entire nation?

First, extreme leftists went to the rally with sticks, bats, and the hope of having a violent confrontation. They were not disappointed. Three people died as a result. If no one had shown up to counter-protest and the media had simply acknowledged that they were there, it would have been the proverbial tree falling in the forest with no one to hear the sound.

The sad truth is that the mainstream media needs this as much as the Nazis because violence and chaos bring ratings and money. Once bricks and bats and fists start flying and cars are turned into weapons, it’s an international story that no journalist can ignore.

As an American of African descent, I am not a fan of the Confederacy. However, my wife and I visited the Confederate Museum in Richmond. It is part of American history and it is more complicated than the racial narrative. There was loyalty to family, friends, and state. There was the unresolved issue of where federal authority ends and state power begins. Many who fought for the South were brave and honorable, but they were on the wrong side of history. Most southerners who want to honor their heritage are not racists and haters. Nor can our Founding Fathers be dismissed merely as slaveowners.

The part about the Democrats wanting this is also true as far as I am concerned from the campus to the media to Hollywood to the 'so-called' leaders of the Party.

Ever since you and Q-### had your not-so-private spat, you've gotten precious little support from teh #BroCavalry. I guess this means you're gonna have to take your own advice and stand up for yourself and be a little more bootstrappy. Maybe the Queen or the "Princess" can help you get out of your easy chair.
 
To understand the definition of alt-left you must understand the definition of alt-right.

The term alt-right was meant to be an umbrella term.
Before Richard Spencer became as well known as he is now, he was doing some interview where he was asked to define alt-right. After that interview the media latched on to him, made him the alt-right leader and called him a neo-nazi.

When he was thrust into the lime light, a lot of alt-righters didn't like him, for various reasons, but it was out of their control. Mainstream media narrative was too hard to fight against. A lot of alt-righters say he didn't coin that term either.

A large portion of alt-right are young people, late millennials and early Gen Z (aka as Generation Zyklon). These kids see the media throw around the terms nazi, racists, sexist, etc., they couldn't shake the stereotype so they just embraced it. Not all of them, but most of the people you see waving Nazi flags are LARPing. LARPing is a very SWPL thing.

There's debate going on in the alt-right. Older generations are trying to tell the younger ones to stop LARPing. The younger ones are saying the older ones are cucking, that the media is going to call them nazi whether they Roman salute or not, that the older ones have failed at protecting white people's right to be proud of their heritage and that the old ones should move out of the way for the young ones to define the movement.

So, the term alt-left is probably meant to be an umbrella term for neo-left-progressive groups.

I never said 'significant number', nor mentioned any other group.

Sorry, the Muslim/terrorist comment was a completely unintentional derailment. I was watching the video referred to by BL, and writing responses to specific points as I was listening. At some point in the video they said something along the lines of 'no one calls Muslims terrorists just because some of them are, so people shouldn't tar Convervatives with the alt-right brush'. (I'm can recall the specifics of the argument, but it was along those lines.) I was simply expressing hilarity at the suggestion that 'no calls Muslims terrorists', when clearly people do.

It was a tangential comment about the very specific point in something that was under discussion - I probably shouldn't have bothered drawing attention to it, but it just seemed too laughable to not point out.

The difference is some people self-identify as alt-right.
As far as I can see, no one self-identifies as alt-left.
