I read where the SJW's want to dynamite Stone Mountain. Right up there with the demand that monuments, statues, busts, plaques be destroyed and street names changed.

And I couldn't help but think back to the Taliban destroying the Great Buddha's and Isis' wholesale destruction of the Mesopotamian antiquities. So that's exactly what you are in my estimation, just a bunch of homegrown Taliban/Isis wannabe's.

I fully expect you SJW's to come pouring in with all sorts of justifications and rationalizations, but the Taliban and Isis had their justifications and rationalizations too. So have at it, justify and rationalize and continue to prove to me, and many others, that you are no different than the Taliban or Isis.

That would be a crime to dynamite Stone Mountain (aka "Traitor Rock"). No matter what your politics are, they put on a kickass laser light show each night during the summer.

The loss of revenue to the Elvis Presley estate for the nightly "American Triology" grand finale would be appalling.

Someone remind me why we need to celebrate and commemorate the heritage of treason, slavery and open rebellion?

Surely, this fine, American domestic terrorist fits the criteria for membership in the American Taliban / ISIS, yes?

James Alex Fields Jr.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - The driver charged with killing a woman at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville was previously accused of beating his mother and threatening her with a knife, according to police records released Monday.

Samantha Bloom, who is disabled and uses a wheelchair, repeatedly called police about her son, James Alex Fields Jr., in 2010 and 2011, telling officers he was on medication to control his temper, transcripts from 911 calls show.

Fields, 20, is accused of ramming his car into a crowd of counter-protesters on Saturday in Charlottesville, killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer.

Fields, described by a former high school teacher as an admirer of Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany, was charged with second-degree murder.

He probably has some justifications and rationalizations too.

Stone Mountain is like the Bamiyan Buddhas? I had no idea that people worshiped there. Do they pray to the human figures or the horses?

The Bamiyan Buddhas were 1500 years old. The Stone Mountain carving is forty-five.

Good morning.

I think your observation there is spot on.

Hoffer (and Peikoff) are necessary reads to understand this mass movement.

Having pretty much crushed religion in the public arena, we are now being presented with the new orthodoxy.

As I tried to point out in another thread of different topic, but still dealing with this purge of "outdated morality," once a crusade in the name of justice is launched, it has no logical end, targets are selected, destroyed and the faithful then identify a new target to attack and assault.

We know how this ends, those of us who are still rational, in dystopia, whereas the True Believer believes he/she is delivering a utopia free of human nature. Of course, they are going to have to round up and kill a lot of people of ill nature before they can get everyone else's minds right (or at least terrify them to the point of silence and meek obedience to the cult lest they be selected for the next purge).

Emmerson, there is a big difference between the .01% of the population that cling to the ideologies of the two centuries past and the 30% (which may be a low estimate) of the population that are embracing the ideals of socialism, the ideas that have produced such mass movements as Fascism and Nazis. The Taliban/ISIS are nothing more than that with a less secular religion driving them.

In all cases, they all, as pointed out in the OP, had their justifications for cleansing the culture of its past sins.

You equate a dead movement with a dynamic and growing movement.

That should be avoided.

Laura Ingraham is asking how long before they do the same to Mt. Vernon and Monticello (no info leftists will need to Google those words) and burning books.

People never talk about it, but the Great Recession, 10 years in, has made people cranky.

Inflation is something else that never gets on the radar... but it seems to me that prices are rising faster than wages out there.

People need to get happy; its the simplest proven way to effect economic and all other change.

Now, i just happen to enjoy others misery, so be assured theres nothing in it for me when people get happy.

But it works.

BTW - ask the Colonel what due process and the rule of law are.

Destroying relics of the past is just a way of hiding the past. Regardless of whether or not the past in question is good or bad, its still a bad idea to hide it, because that just makes it easier for people to repeat the mistakes made in the past. Instead, just accept the past, don't glorify it or demonise it, just accept that it happened and use what you learn from it to improve the future.

The Bamiyan Buddhas were 1500 years old. The Stone Mountain carving is forty-five.

The Klan used to assemble there for rallies in the 1910-1920s. That's when the carving started. Like 4est_4est_Gump, though, they were always long on hatred but short on money, so the carving sat about 1/3 finished for a half century after being in the Klan lost it's allure.

The state of Georgia bought the mountain and turned it into a park. The back side of the mountain was one of the largest lovers lanes in the world circa 1970 of so. They restarted and finished the carving (reduced scale, only half of the horses the traitors rode on) about 1968 or so if I recall correctly.

This is what totalitarians do, erase history in order to control the narrative. They know if we forget history it will be a lot easier to live it all over again. Easier for them to impose the failed draconian totalitarian policies of the past.

Now they're talking about striking off the faces on Stone Mountain. A direct correlation to the actions of the Taliban. Will Washington and Jefferson be next?

Remembering the past is important. Keeping statues commemorating historical figures is not a bad thing. It doesn't mean we subscribe to their policies in every case. It means we remember...and there's a lot we need to remember in the past so we never go there again.

It is art, not history. You know art, the thing you want destroyed when you don't like it.
