Gender Identity/ Sexual Orientation

The earth is more pear-shaped than round. What kind of Science do the teach a mile above sea level?

Hsnh, timely:

First came the Center for American Progress. Their report, “The Racist Origins of Private School Vouchers” (July 12, 2017), chains current voucher proposals to segregationist policies of the past, concluding that vouchers are “fundamentally positioned to funnel taxpayers’ dollars into private schools while draining much-needed resources from public schools and … vulnerable students.”

A week later, Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, called Education Secretary Betsy DeVos “a public school denier, denying the good in our public schools and their foundational place in our democracy.” Weingarten described “vouchers, for-profit charters and other privatization schemes” as the “polite cousins of segregation,” part of a scheme to “protect the economic and political power of the few against the rights of the many.” She accuses proponents of educational choice of trying “to starve public schools to the breaking point … and let the market handle the rest.” And that, she declared ominously, is “how a democracy comes apart.”

The last day of July, New York Times columnist Katherine Stewart -- who imagines “Christian Nationalism” and “the fundamentalist agenda” as part of a “stealthy” mission to take over the public schools -- penned a thousand-word screed against “school choice” (she uses scare quotes) without ever debating its merits. She too links school choice supporters and critics of “government schools” (a phrase she finds ominous) with “Jim Crow-era” segregationists and religious fundamentalism. Their aim, she asserts, is “the empowerment of a rearmed Christian right” bent on “freedom from democracy itself.”

Oh look! Fresh Murican Thinker drivel for AJ to cower behind!

"I never said that! I never commented on that! I was only....PASSING IT ALONG!"

Duck 'n Cover, Chief!

"The earth is more pear shaped than round" is right up there with Ishmael's "The civil war was not about slavery, it was about teh TENTH AMENDMENT" insofar as factual basis is concerned.

This is a funny one, but I don't intend it as derrogatory.

There are gay penguins and lesbianism among bonobo monkeys.

Which is the best evidence that there is a strong biological component.

AJ isn't gonna see this in Rob's thread, so I'll repost it here.

AJ is referring to the equipotentials in Earth's surface gravity. If you have a representation broken into fundamental spherical harmonics, there is a term that is roughly pear-shaped. But the effect is small.

It's more common to refer to the shape of Earth as oblate spheroid.

A bonobo will fuck anything including a mango...

And from what I read more Latinos than whites are devout Christians, and quite a few African- Americans are devout church- goers too.

So I don't get why so many Leftists automatically equate belief in Christian values with intolerance, bigotry +/- racism.

Are you a gay penguin or a lesbian monkey?

transgender kids have always been here. I went to high school with at least 3 that were out and that's decades ago. .
You had THREE transgender classmates.

What are the chances of that happening, when statistics put the % at 0.6%?
"… pants on fire".

Or did you attend a special school for the gifted and different?

Let's try some math. It's not uncommon for an American high school to have 2,000 students. What's .6% of 2000?

That's not how those prevalence data were calculated.

But I'm sure that american high schools are oozing with transgenders.:rose:

What does the methodology for determining the number of transgenders in the general population have to do with calculating a relative frequency?

2,000 * .006 = 12, which is approximately an order of magnitude larger than three. Meaning, the notion that there are several transgenders at a particular high school at a particular time is perfectly reasonable.

Which reminded me:
I became more interested in idle gossip after that, but I didn't know much about my colleagues' private lives (including sexuality or sexual orientation) in school. Probably because my school teachers and parents frowned upon any such discussions - they called them breaching one's privacy.
And there wasn't as much bullying either. At least to the degree that I read in massmedia.

Well, I was just trying to needle him.:)

My husband wrote this. A good read.

Over the years, I've seen many books, sermons, letters, shows, etc. filled with ignorance and misogyny when it come to kids who feel born with the opposite gender body or sexual orientation from that which is taught as 'culturally acceptable'. Sexuality is a confusing issue to most people; but, forcing change through denial, "re-education", beatings, ostracism, etc. has rarely worked and, often, led to suicide, estrangement, or other equally bad outcomes.

Science is beginning to see the truth how our neonatal brains influence our sexual identity and sexual orientation. If you know someone who has been through this, you know it is not a matter of 'personal choice'. Please share this scientific article and know that the person shares no guilt in why they are who they are. You just have to love them for who they are.

From Frontiers in Neuroendocrinology's article titled "Sexual differentiation of the human brain: Relation to gender identity, sexual orientation and neuropsychiatric disorders". The highlights of the research state, "► Gender identity and sexual orientation are permanently programmed in the fetal brain. ► Testosterone in the fetal stage determines sexual differentiation of the human brain. ► The degree of genital masculinization does not necessarily reflect that of the brain. ► No evidence indicates social environment affect gender identity or sexual orientation. ► Sex differences in the brain determine sex-specific prevalence of brain disorders."

Here is a link to the abstract on the research,

http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0091302211000252

It's a stretch to call what is, and what's prevalent, and what creates life, as "culturally acceptable".

This subject is under the folder of 'how to deal with that and how to try and make everyone happy'. But to go and say 'how to teach people we got it all wrong all along'...

Sorry. That'll never happen :)
