You just have to keep checking your thread to see if people post. I would recommend that you turn on your messages and you will people contacting you to say hi.

You're automatically subscribed to any thread you post on. There's a "List subscriptions" button at the left of your control panel, that will show you which ones have been active since you last checked.
Also, it's necessary to turn on your PM's if you want messages, they are off by default.

I think that is what we all want in a nutshell. Though it can vary. As for the ins and out, I haven't invested too much time in that, but figure things out as I go.

If you go to User CP and then click on options, one of the options is "...to receive email notification of new replies to that thread."
