Looking for some info from women who have undergone this.....

I am about to have a hysterectomy (uterus and cervix only - ovaries staying) and however much I look, I can't find information about how this might affect my sex life.
Somewhere, years ago, I read that the uterus and cervix are linked to the strength of orgasm, but I can't find any information that either confirms or contradicts this.
So I am doing the next-best thing, and throwing the question out to lit!

Have you had a hysterectomy, full or partial, and did it affect the strength/quality of your orgasm and sex life?

My surgery date is Aug 10.

I don't have any advice or know anything about it, but I know that's a major operation. Take care and I hope everything goes okay! :rose:

I had a complete hysterectomy 2 years ago. My sex life has only improved and it was pretty dang good before! Do not leat fear hold you back. All the reasons for the hysterectomy are gone and you will feel great sooner than you think. I am a very compliant patient and followed the 90 days no sex advice. I do recommend you find someone who is familiar with biodentical hormone replacement therapy. You will still need hormones even after the surgery. Good luck with the surgery and may you have an easy and complete recovery.

Thanx :)
I have a great surgical team organised - a little moreso than normal as I also have a blood clotting disorder to contend with.
So I have a team for surgery with one of the best surgeons and a haemotology doc assisting.

A little scared, but with all the specialists in place I should be fine.

I am keeping my ovaries, so I shouldn't need hormones?

eh i had my partial when i was 25

dont let old wives tales get to you

the only thing is, when you keep your ovaries, you can have pms that seem to last a heckova lot longer than it should

also, you can get unbearably horny for days at a time

and no to hormones

I like the 'unbearably horny' part!

I have one remaining ovary and I don't need hormones. LTR is right though, especially if you hang out with women, your PMS can be horrible and often unpredictable. It's vicious.

My recovery was very easy, but I was also 26 so I was young and my body bounced back quickly.

Maybe because I only have one ovary but I still get hot flashes and my hormones aren't always perfectly balanced. Having a great doc is the best way to combat that.

Sex only got better for me after the operation. The thrill of never being able to get pregnant again was the sexiest thing I can think of. You might need to explore some quality lube if your hormones do go a bit whacky. Nothing major though.

I have a totally different take on this. My hormones are so much more in check now, I still have two ovaries and no uterus. Just don't let them use the davinci assist, which is a robotic contraption. They cut me on the way out and to this day I have a scar. I will say, out of the 10 plus surgeries I had in my life, it was not the easiest. For some reason I had a lot of pain until they let me go home and I was in my own bed, I was fine then...maybe it was the bed, or the people coming in to check on me way too often...

My sex life and drive have only improved. I had lots of problems before that I don't want to name here. They have all been eliminated and I have voracious sexual appetite and don't have to worry about such things as condoms breaking or if I am in a trusting relationship, if he cums in me. When asked about hysterectomy? I say if you are not into having more kids, rip that sucker out!

Leave the cervix. ( we need to know when we bottom out ).
Just kidding, do what is best and healthy for you. The awesome ladies here and your doctor will lead you down the right path.

With a throat cervix, I'll betcha the boss would give her a $.25 bump/hour.

I had a hysterectomy about 7 years ago and I am so glad I did. I have felt no difference in the strength of my orgasm. I am still as horny as ever. I don't know if you are going to get it done robotically but I had mine done on New Years Eve. (My great Dr. wanted me to get it when my insurance would cover all of it because I had met my deductible). Celebrated a belated Christmas on New Years day with my family at home. I wasn't up dancing but I wasn't in a bunch of pain and could enjoy it. Don't let that deceive you and take it easy. It is still major surgery.

I have my ovaries but my doctor said they would probably just die off. They took my cervix but to be honest whatever they did to close it feels no different to me.

Not having to deal with constant bleeding, cramps, etc ~ priceless.

Best Wishes:rose:

I am having all my pre-op appt's today. Sitting in the waiting room of pre-op assessment is b o r i n g, interspersed with moments of intense concentration as the various dept's see me.
I have been given a blood thinner reduction schedule, a modified anaesthetic plan, and am now waiting to see my surgeon.
My surgery will not be done with robotic assist as we don't have that here yet.

is
thin.

get well.

what's the diagnosis?

about the 3rd or 4th
orgasm,
msN's uterus
is jumping like
an asian carp
on the ill river.

she opted for-
ablation.

good call.

Ablation is not an option for me.
I have to have another iron infusion tomorrow as my levels are still low, but other than that, I am good to go for Aug 10.

if you have low fe
from excessive bleeding
ablation is the way
to go
unless
contraindicated.

I have a large vascular intra-uterine fibroid, so ablation is out for me.
Apparently, my menses cause tearing of this fibroid, which in turn causes excessive blood loss. My gynae is worried it may cause a catastrophic bleed as I am on blood thinners.
Time from discovery of this mass to surgery is 5 weeks - which is pretty quick under our system.
