CinC Trump Bans Transgenders In The Military

Why Trump’s Ban on Transgender Servicepeople Is Flatly Unconstitutional

Here’s another Trump policy likely to get held up in courts.
President Donald Trump’s tweets Wednesday morning proclaiming that no transgender persons should be allowed “to serve in any capacity in the U.S. military” do not have the force of law, and maybe nothing like them ever will. But if the president were to put that edict in an executive order rather than a tweet, the policy it purported to institute would be flatly unconstitutional. As stated, a wall-to-wall ban on transgender Americans in the armed forces could only be understood as rooted in what constitutional doctrine calls animus: that is, the bare dislike of a group of people. And as the Supreme Court has held in cases going back at least to the 1970s, animus is never a constitutionally valid reason for government action.
Rule of law? We don't need no stinking rule of law! Whatever the God-Emperor says, goes! Bite me!

Where does the 15,000 number come from?

Ishmael

Somebody's asshole. With the relatively small size of today's military that number would represent a historic sacrifice coming from just .03% of the population.;)

vettebirther talking about assholes in a transgender thread surprises no one.

NO ONE.

^ Dumbass.

The 15,000 figure comes from the Williams Institute, UCLA School of Law, for the estimated number of transgender in the military years 2008-2009. The Williams Institute number is at the high end of the estimates.

And for the third fucking time now, the correct percentage of transgender in the general population is closer to .3%, not .03%.

idiots: Kick them all out! They're invading our beloved Military!

Sane people: There are already 15K serving. Do you know what removing them would do to our Military and the cost?

idiots: HOW DO YOU KNOW THERE ARE 15K?

Sane people: See?

I can find no authoritative source for that number. Until I can it's either bullshit or an extrapolated number, which is bull shit also.

Ishmael

If their numbers a so insignificant, you just destroyed your own idiotic theory.

Please expand upon this; on which specific grounds is the "suicide rate" argument flawed?

Please provide that recent (evidence based) research which demonstrates trans suicide is due to marginalization. I keep hearing this but I have never seen actual evidence.

Have you looked?
And if I found any, would you actually read it? (This is a genuine question - I have in the past spent time finding evidence to support my arguments in a range of areas on Lit, and it's clear that other people arguing the opposition don't bother to actually read it.)
And do you have (recent) evidence that trans people are more likely to be 'mentally ill' than the gender population, AND that this is why suicide rates are higher among the trans population?

Is the Department of Defense also wrong?

I've already shown you the link to the Bloomberg piece that stated that transgender care would cost 0.014% of Trump's military budget. CNN put it between 0.004% and 0.017% of the military budget. I've already linked to the RAND piece.

Additionally, for what it's worth the military spends more things money on erectile dysfunction medicine than it would for transgender service members. In other words boner pills are costing the DoD $76 million more than medical costs of transgender people.

Finally, why doesn't that that fancy new F-35 that went over-budget by $163 billion raise your ire?

I don't care about the cost of treating trannies. (I would turn them away if it cost nothing.)

People with diabetes may not serve due to the complications of providing them with insulin during wartime. Why should hormone treatments be treated any differently? Hormones are LESS of a necessity than insulin. People die without their insulin.

I have looked for years and have not found anything supporting your claims. (I am probably the first person here at Lit questioning the politicizing of transgenderism, did a thread 3 years ago)

It is possible that you have knowledge that I don't possess. If you will present it, I will read it. Your post was very specific, even noting "a number of grounds", so it stands to reason you should have the evidence and what these grounds are at your fingertips.

Post #219. Let me guess.....you're going to back pedal.

Let me guess, you didn't quote it because you know god damn good and well I never said "100% of trans people in the armed forces want/get surgery." anywhere in that fuckin' post.

Will your dishonesty never end?

I see a lot of out of shape fat wagons who have no business insulting their uniforms.:(

To be fair only the ones on the right seem to be fat bodies and they appear to be European....the standard that (D)'s aspire to.
