So, for a while now, my boss and I have been noticing that the old GM plant in Janesville has had a LOT of activity. Apparently, there is a 10 billion dollar manufacturing plant going in there. Trump is taking full credit saying that if he would not have become president, it would not have happened.

Let's take a look at those figures: Wisconsin is paying as much as $1 million per job, which will carry an average salary of $54,000. The state's economic development corporation is selling the project to taxpayers with a claim that it will create 10,000 construction jobs for building the facility and another 6,000 indirect positions. It's expecting $3.3 million of investment per employee from the Taiwanese company.
Politicians, lobbyists and Foxconn can make the figures work by being generous with the facts. For example, if every one of those jobs came to fruition, they can claim 29,000 positions for $3 billion, or $103,000 per job. But that's not going to happen.
Foxconn has factories in China and another dozen countries globally, yet that stated $10 billion investment is more than the group's publicly traded flagship -- Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. -- has devoted to capital expenditure over the past five years combined.

I am super torn because Janesville and Beloit? We call Beloit betroit.... not a good economic base. We had a foreclosure recently in Orfordville and the realtor told me that it would go for about 120k as is because it is one of 4 properties on the market... it's probably 15 minutes from Janesville and Beloit, which is exactly why its desirable. You can still work in the crappy areas but, you don't have to live there...

Wisconsin really needs an economic stimulation. The increase in jobs would be great.

I don't think it is a coincidence that the average salary is going to be $54,000. That is exactly the "survival budget" for a family of 4 in Wisconsin. It's half of the "stable income" for a Wisconsin family of 4 which is just over $102,000.

No. But $3B in tax incentives seems high on a $10B investment. What are the tax rates in Wisconsin? Call it a blended 5% (because they have a graduated rate)

SO 3K jobs @ $54K = $162M * .05 = $8.1M

That means 370 years to make up the $3B in incentives on the tax base of the average employee. Assume other taxes are in play on the properties and the employees will pay sales taxes and other municipal fees and still it sounds like they bought quarters for a dollar a piece.

When the Obama administration releases a report on the Friday before a long weekend, it’s clearly not trying to draw attention to the report’s contents. Sure enough, the “Seventh Quarterly Report” on the economic impact of the “stimulus,” released on Friday, July 1, provides further evidence that President Obama’s economic “stimulus” did very little, if anything, to stimulate the economy, and a whole lot to stimulate the debt.

The report was written by the White House’s Council of Economic Advisors, a group of three economists who were all handpicked by Obama, and it chronicles the alleged success of the “stimulus” in adding or saving jobs. The council reports that, using “mainstream estimates of economic multipliers for the effects of fiscal stimulus” (which it describes as a “natural way to estimate the effects of” the legislation), the “stimulus” has added or saved just under 2.4 million jobs — whether private or public — at a cost (to date) of $666 billion. That’s a cost to taxpayers of $278,000 per job.

Serious response instead of all the political buggery that's been spewed so far...

1. Trump cam claim all he wants. What you'll see is that his base will believe him. Those in the middle will nod and look to other indicators which show that consumer confidence is up since Trump took office. Those on the left will spew more BS. What it comes down to is simply this; The plant was going to happen. The degree of operations from the plant would have depended on the national economic outlook. That the outlook is good probably means that any subsequent expansion plans could possibly happen sooner than planned.

2. Local tax incentives are more than the outlay for the one business. As the business grows, it attracts other businesses to start up either as direct suppliers or indirect service providers. That increases the tax base which offsets the incentives given. Even home prices rise as more people want to buy closer to where they work, which increases the local tax revenues. So any projection based on static numbers is meaningless even if it sounds like you know what you're talking about.

Conclusion: It's good for your local economy. What you were seeing may have been the precursors to something which may have already been planned for years and was likely to begin now. Or it could have been an exploration to see if the location was viable with the possibility that operations would begin immediately. Without inside knowledge, we can only guess which is true, but Trump can point to all the national indicators and say that he is responsible. Maybe not 100% but in some measure he is.
