‘Darkest moment in American history’: Phil Donahue warns it’s ‘too dangerous’ for GOP to impeach Trump

A television legend has concluded that the Republican Party is unable to impeach President Donald Trump.

“I think he’s Elvis, I don’t think they will tolerate – many of the base – will not tolerate criticism of him,” Phil Donahue told Joy Ann Reid on MSNBC Saturday. “Honestly, I don’t think he can be impeached right now.”

“I think it’s too dangerous for a member of Congress to vote for impeachment and upset a significant number of his own constituency,” Donahue explained. “It’s a third rail he could risk his own re-election.”

“The Phil Donahue Show” ran in syndication for 29 years, with nearly 7,000 episodes. Donald Trump appeared on the show three times.

Reid asked Donahue if he saw a potential future president during those interviews.

“Are you serious?” Donahue replied, with a laugh. “Not in a million years.”

Only 3 1/2 years to go folks.

Maybe 7 1/2 if you don't get your party's shit straight.
I've a strong hunch Tromp won't survive this term. I have no idea if there'll be a coup, a 25th action, a stroke, a sniper, a disaster, or what. But a sense of foreboding, an ominous cloud, hovers over this circus. The machinery of gov't is being jammed and jimmied and jerked mercilessly. When it breaks down and explodes, watch for shrapnel. (That's a metaphor.)

Trump 2020 campaign doubled its spending on legal fees in three months thanks to Russia scandal

President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign spent $700,000 on legal fees between April and June as the scandal around Russian interference in the 2016 election has intensified, according to The Hill.

Reports filed with the Federal Elections Commission (FEC) say that Trump 2020 campaign committees poured out nearly $700,000 in legal expenses between the beginning of April and the end of June. That figure is nearly twice as high as the amount the campaign spend in its first three months.

Trump 2020 paid $545,000 to the Jones Day law firm, which has represented the campaign in a series of ongoing lawsuits and is currently advising the campaign on legal issues related to Russia.

On Saturday, it was revealed that the re-election campaign paid $50,000 to the law firm of Alan Futerfas, who represents Donald Trump Jr. The payments were made two weeks before the scandal erupted over Trump Jr.’s meeting with Kremlin-aligned lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya.

Now that's a "Job Creator".

I heard in passing on the TV today that Trump is trying to send the bill for that to the RNC.

Trump's base support is very much unchanged. The only thing you'll see Asa result of all the media bs in the Heartland and among Trump supporters is outrage and anger at the media and the left. And as Jack has pointed out, the DNC is factionalized, with those factions turning on each other. You just look like crazies to the rest of us. Nope, you in your insular little left wing biubble may not like it but Trump is there and staying.

And case in point: an article from the New York Times - No One Cares About Russia in the World Breitbart Made (snowflake safe source altho obviously with the extreme left bias you have to take the reporter's views with a teaspoon of salt...)

Key points:
  1. Despite six months of White House strife, precious few legislative achievements and a metastasizing Russia scandal, Republicans have largely stood by their president. While his national support has dipped below 40 percent, his approval rating within his own party remains strong: Republican support for the president has hovered around 85 percent since his inauguration. These numbers reflect a shift in Republicans’ disposition, of which Mr. Trump is both a major cause and the main beneficiary.
  1. Earlier this month, a congressional source told me, Democratic strategists looking at a Republican-held swing district that is expected to be in play in next year’s midterm elections were shocked when a private poll they conducted showed that Republican support for Mr. Trump in the district is even stronger now than it was on Election Day.
  1. an alternative view of reality has taken such deep root among Republicans is that they seem to be focusing more on the broader culture. Last week a new Pew Research Center poll showed that a majority of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents now believes that colleges and universities — the flash point of our current culture wars — have a negative effect on the country. This number is up sharply from the 45 percent who agreed with this same statement last year.

^^^^ This.
We read it here first!

The key phrase here being "Trump's base support."

Even a few days before he resigned, Nixon still had his "base." It had shrunk to about 25%, but still, there will always be the crazies. Hardly signs of a revolution.

It's not even 6 months and Trump's struggling every day just to hang onto the crazies. He's pulled everything out of his Depends to do it, too. Paris Accord, full on attack on media, attack Obama, getting the Fundies to pray over him in the Oval Office.

Even Fox is turning on him. The crazies may stick their hands in the sand, but every single drip drip of lies and scandal peels off more support. NO ONE respected from the R Party gets on TV to defend him anymore. He's down to pure propaganda with Gorka and Conway spewing lies which he himself contradicts the next day.

How's that wall coming?

Also, I LMAO every time one of you cites the FAKE NEWS to prop up the Orange Clown. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. It's FAKE, remember?

But hey, if you suddenly trust the fake news, there's this from the WaPo:

Poll finds Trump standing weakened since springtime

President Trump’s standing with the American people has deteriorated since the spring, buffeted by perceptions of a decline in U.S. leadership abroad, a stalled presidential agenda at home and an unpopular Republican health-care bill, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

Approaching six months in office, Trump’s overall approval rating has dropped to 36*percent from 42*percent in April. His disapproval rating has risen five points to 58*percent. Overall, 48*percent say they “disapprove strongly” of Trump’s performance in office, a level never reached by former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama and reached only in the second term of George W. Bush in Post-ABC polling.

Half of Americans say Trump is doing a worse job than most past presidents, while just under one-quarter say he is doing better, and a similar share say he is faring about the same as previous presidents. A 55*percent majority say Trump is not making significant progress toward his goals.

The survey points to many causes for Trump’s troubles. As Republican senators attempt to pass major health-care legislation, the poll finds about twice as many Americans prefer the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare, to GOP plans for replacing it — 50*percent to 24*percent. About a quarter volunteer either “neither,” say they want something else or offer no opinion.

Cultural Trends?

Here are 7 things selling like hotcakes since Trump became president

I won't list them as It would take some time, but No.7 is interesting from the view point of the author.

7. Dystopian fiction.

Can’t afford even the most basic underground bunker? Prepare for the worst by reading classic books depicting how truly bad corrupt authoritarian fascism can be. That’s what millions of people did in the weeks after Trump won. Margaret Atwood’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Sinclair Lewis’ “It Can’t Happen Here” and George Orwell’s “1984” all returned to the top levels of bestseller lists.

“It’s a frame of reference that people can reach for in response to government deception, propaganda, the misuse of language, and those are things that occur all the time,” Alex Woloch, who teaches English at Stanford University, told the New York Times. “There are certain things this administration is doing that has set off these alarm bells, and people are hungry for frames of reference to understand this new reality.”

So get those dystopian stories churning folks!:D

Secret Service smacks down Trump lawyer: Russia meeting was never cleared with us

The Secret Service hit back at an attempt by President Donald Trump’s attorney Jay Sekulow to blame them for the meeting Donald Trump Jr. and key members of the Trump 2016 campaign staff took with Kremlin-aligned lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya and a Russian-born lobbyist.

The Hill said that the Secret Service issued a statement on Sunday afternoon responding to Sekulow’s statements ABC News’ “This Week.”

Sekulow said of the Veselnitskaya meeting, ““If this was nefarious, why’d the Secret Service allow these people in? The president had Secret Service protection at that point. That raised a question with me.”

The issued a statement to Reuters that said, “Donald Trump, Jr. was not a protectee of the USSS in June, 2016. Thus we would not have screened anyone he was meeting with at that time.”

‘We’ll get back to you on that’: White House’s ‘Made in America Week’ hits major snag over Trump products

On Sunday the White House announced “Made in America Week” — a week of appearances and promotions by President Donald Trump intended to highlight products that are made domestically.

According to Politico.com, White House spokeswoman Helen Aguirre Ferre had no answer, however, when she was asked about whether President Donald Trump will take advantage of the week’s theme to pressure his daughter to start manufacturing her clothing line in the U.S. and stop relying on cheaper overseas manufacturers.

“We’ll get back to you on that,” said Ferre Sunday.

“Made in America Week” will feature at least two events tied to the theme, Politico said, “including a ‘product showcase,’ in which American-made products from all 50 states will be brought to the White House. On Wednesday, the president will issue a proclamation on the importance of making products in America.”

The Washington Post‘s Philip Rucker pointed out that at least a dozen other countries manufacture products marketed under the Trump brand.

Yet another dumbass move by the Trump admin. How could they not anticipate that line of questioning and plan ahead for it?
Because such requires thoughtfulness. Strategic thinking. Some experience with how the world and its agencies work. All lacking here.

Is Trump sick?: Biographer says president seems weak and ‘less steady on his feet

During a discussion of President Donald Trump’s painfully awkward handshake with French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump biographer and longtime observer Michael D’Antonio noted that the president seems weak and unsteady on his feet.

After revealing that the French government contacted him before the election was even decided to consult with him about Trump’s bizarre handshake style, D’Antonio said, “I also think that one thing that may not be noted by most people is that I suspect the president wanted to halt the little stroll that they were having.”

Macron and Trump — who is volubly averse to exercise — had taken about 10 steps together as cameras swarmed around them.

“I’ve noted in recent weeks that he doesn’t seem as vigorous,” D’Antonio said. “He doesn’t seem as steady on his feet. When he’s walking with someone he’ll pause often to point out something or chat, but I also think he may be steadying himself so that’s something for us to watch out for.”

A doddering old fool? No, an asshole.

How's that wall coming?

Well he is down from 1000 miles to the existing 654 miles plus a new 74 miles. Seems they finally convinced him that trying to build a wall over mountains and through the river wasn't easy. But he has only budgeted enough money for the 74 miles which would repair 14 miles of fencing in California and put in 60 miles of new structure in Texas. He has decided that the fence should be transparent so that no one gets hit in the head from drugs being catapulted over the wall, but at the same time the wall will be covered with solar panels. The solar panels will be on the south side, so that Mexico could benefit from the energy and that would make them more willing to pay for the wall. Mexico has said, solar panels or not, they are not paying for the wall. Trump says that repairs are already started on parts of the wall near San Diego, although the budget hasn't been approved for a wall, infrastructure funds can pay to repair an existing wall. Several companies are building sample walls down near San Diego so that Trump can choose the one he likes best. but the companies were making their mock ups based on the original plans, so I don't think any of them were planning on designing shorter transparent walls with solar panels.

The GOP will need a candidate besides Trump in 2020 if they want to keep the White House.
You assume the White House will still exist in 2020. Kim's ICBMs might change that. Or we may see Tromp Tower designated as the nation's presidential palace. And who knows? We could have a crisis and the election might be canceled. Ouch.

‘My inflatable doll... is a lesbian’: White House calls go off the deep end after Trump gets healthcare blindside

Late Monday it was announced that two more Republican Senators were opposed to the repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare. The White House and President Donald Trump himself were so blindsided by the revelation awkward and embarrassing conversations were overheard by reporters on press calls.

“My inflatable doll is a lesbian,” said one unmuted voice during a White House call during a briefing on Iran, according to CBS News reporter Jackie Alemany.

Politico reported early Tuesday that Trump was having a group of influential senators to dinner for steak and succotash. During the dinner Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Jerry Moran (R-KS) announced at the same time that they were voting against the GOP healthcare bill, effectively killing it from passage. The Moran-Lee tweets call into question the president’s ability to master the art of Washington deal-making.

Trump had no idea it was coming, said several White House and congressional officials. The White House took to the phones asking Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell what happened. They were frustrated after all of the work, delays and negotiation with their own party.

Trump and McConnell were prepared to make similar official statements at the same time on Monday after the news but Trump tweeted his message before the majority leader could release his statement. The tweet reportedly took staff by surprise.

“There it is,” said an aide said just moments after swearing a response would come in “an hour.”

“Regretfully, it is now apparent that the effort to repeal and immediately replace the failure of Obamacare will not be successful,” McConnell’s statement said from spokesman Don Stewart.

Are we tired of Winning Yet?
