While I've cut back a great deal on TV to the News, with a an hour or so more, I've recently taken up Californication. I didn't think I'd like it. But what a change of pace in the positive direction.
Orange is the new black is brilliant especially this last season, and totally gross at the same time. House of cards? You love it and hate yourself for loving it. It's a show I hate to must watch. The Blacklist, apart from a few totally ridiculous mistakes where some things don't make sense, is entertaining, reminds me of Alias a lot, and I've made a connection with Spader since the league of its own brilliant show boston legal. Where he meets with Shatner, and they do every episode Star Trek guests, parallels with star trek to an outright fight between Quark and Odo, to Hockey... A delight to have watched it as it aired as well and seen David Kelly's foresight and prediction of events... There's even a Boston law that was voted on and enacted inspired by an episode (Kelly's a lawyer).
All above shows a bunch of fucked up complicated political, legal, suspense, dramedy, conspiracy, spying and double-agenting ( i invent new words all the time), betraying and just darkness galore.
Then this Californication is a world away. Light, smart, well written, pretty to see, lots of naked, simple yet engaging, well written high up there... and beside the nekkid stuff, has absolutely nothing to do with the above mentioned shows.
The weirdest part, I've never watched the X-Files, or anything else for Duchovny.
Huh.
Oh well. Recommended.
