So... assuming you haven't done this already:

Towards the top of the page, you'll see a menu bar. The leftmost thing on the menu bar is "User CP". Click that.

This will display a list of threads that you're watching, that you have new posts in. Ignore that list for now. Look at the sidebar on the left of the page. Under "Settings and "Options", you'll see "Edit Options". Click that.

This displays a page with lots of options you can change. There will be a "Messaging & Notification" section, and in that section, there's a checkbox for "Enable Private Messaging". Click that checkbox to enable PM's.

Once you've clicked the checkbox, scroll to the bottom of the page, and click the button marked "Save Changes".

Of course, if you've already done all that, I'm going to look pretty stupid
