Jared Kushner’s meeting with Mahmoud Abbas went so badly that Trump is reportedly considering pulling out of talks

A U.S. official denied reports that Trump was considering pulling out of peace negotiations between Israel and Palestinians after a rift opened up in the first meeting between Trump aide and son-in-law Jared Kushner and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

London-based Arabic daily Al-Hayat reported Saturday that the meeting between Kushner and Abbas had been “tense.” Abbas was allegedly furious when Kushner relayed a set of demands from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to a translation of the report by the Jerusalem Post.

Israeli daily Haaretz reported that Palestinian officials were “greatly disappointed” following their Wednesday meeting with Kushner and Jonathan Greenblatt , Trump’s Middle East envoy.

Mired in record low approval ratings at home, President Donald Trump is even less popular globally, with a majority describing him as dangerous, arrogant and intolerant. Those are the results of the Pew Research Center’s annual survey on global attitudes toward the United States and its president, released Monday.

Trump’s ratings in many countries, notably in Western Europe, now bear a striking resemblance to those endured by George W. Bush during his two terms, in which the United States’s international reputation took a severe hit.

Even Russian President Vladimir Putin, considered an adversary in many of the countries surveyed, enjoys a healthier global reputation. Compared to Trump’s 22 percent, a median of 27 percent had confidence in Putin to do the right thing regarding world affairs. Chinese President Xi Jinping was slightly higher, at 28 percent. German Chancellor Angela Merkel was trusted by 42 percent, compared with 31 percent who said they had no confidence.

In a further indictment of Trump’s international reputation, a median of 75 percent said they believed Trump was arrogant. The views on Trump’s other characteristics do not get any better. A median of 65 percent said he was intolerant, and 62 percent said he was dangerous.

Given Trump's repeated war of words with his predecessor, though, it is the negative comparisons with Obama that may sting most. Notably, Trump inspired more confidence than Obama in just two countries: Russia and Israel.

“The president’s Twitter tsunami must be a goldmine for foreign services (including friendly ones) in developing his profile,” he writes. “Press-able buttons, loyalties, exposed nerves, responses to pressure, even sleep habits are on pretty full display.”

Despite the fact that Trump’s behavior in pressure situations is fairly predictable, Hayden warns that it could paradoxically have unpredictable consequences, as world leaders might feel free to ignore a Trump threat that turns out to be deadly serious.

“If a foreign leader has reason to believe that the president doesn’t mean what he says, that leader may choose to ignore it and — if he is right — he wins the hand, so to speak,” he writes. “If he is wrong, though, he could trigger American responses that both he and we would have preferred to avoid. Neither are good outcomes.”

But as it turns out, the majority of citizens say they would quit drinking alcohol tomorrow if it meant the president would be impeached.

Nearly 73 percent of Democrats and 17 percent of Republicans said they would abstain from alcohol for the rest of their lives if they could see the official political process begin to remove Trump, according to a Detox.net survey of 1,013 men and women nationwide. The latest data set showing support for Trump’s impeachment—an exhaustive political process that includes no definite promise of his removal—comes at a time when multiple Democratic lawmakers are drafting articles of impeachment and at some point could bring them to the floor of Congress.

Trump bombed at GOP Senate health care meeting because he was clueless about what was in the bill

According to one Republican senator, President Donald Trump may not actually know what is in the bill he was lobbying this afternoon during a closed-door meeting.

Buried in a New York Times recap of Tuesday’s GOP meeting with Trump was an anonymous quote from a senate staffer who attended the event at the White House.

“A senator who supports the bill left the meeting at the White House with a sense that the president did not have a grasp of some basic elements of the Senate plan — and seemed especially confused when a moderate Republican complained that opponents of the bill would cast it as a massive tax break for the wealthy,” the Times reported a senate staffer revealed.

The senator also said that Trump said he would navigate tax reform later, and seemed to ignore the tax implications that are part of the new health bill.

Trump then went on to declare victory of the meeting.
