Laws are so stiff now, registering of long guns has minimal effect. More likely to improve police safety and how they handle domestic calls if they know a gun is in the house. Not likely to make a big impression on actual gun crime and deaths. Might catch a few unregistered ones at most.

ALL guns sales records have to be kept by the FFL. The record includes the name, address, and serial # of the firearm. This information has to be included on the Form 4473 sent as part of the background check at the time of purchase. As for the registration; you do realize that "gun registration" means that the government is actually registering the gun "Owner" don't you? The question suddenly becomes why and for what purpose. To keep track of guns that are used in crimes? Oh, that's really handy, as if the gun isn't at the scene of the crime after all the shooting stops anyway. Usually in hand of the person committing the crime. So, regardless of who OWNS it, the bad guy usually is the one USING it. And that ain't that hard to figure out once the smoke clears.

There is NO SUCH THING as a "gunshow loophole". ALL SALES at guns shows are required to follow the same rules as at the brick & mortar FFL with the same forms and checks.

Instant background checks are called NICS checks and are performed at the time of sale. IOW, these exist already.

States currently DO have various laws and restrictions regarding guns. Remarkably, the States with the most restrictive laws are the ones where the most gun violence occurs. Are you SURE you want to go further down that path?

Magazine capacity bans have done nothing to reduce crime. You know why? Because CRIMINALS don't obey the law anyway.

Getting rid of "evil black rifles" won't work because you can't define WHY those guns specifically should be outlawed. After all, any modern hunting rifle with a high power scope on it is more accurate and deadly than a shorter barreled AR. Hunting rifles are meant to KILL while military weapons are meant to wound. Trust me, a .338 Lapua is a LOT more deadly than a .223 AR at 2000+ yards.

Ammo tax has been tried. Didn't work for cigarettes either. Or booze. Or porn.

I own several guns. I have a concealed carry permit. I ALWAYS carry a gun, a knife and sometimes a taser. Have I ever used tem? NO Do I want to ever use them? NO. I do not wish to be in a situation though where they would protect my loved ones or myself.Gun control doesn't work, ask the Aussies.
Raising the price of Ammo is a stupid idea. Taxing the guns and ammo so heavily as to make them unaffordable is yet another stupid idea. Funding victims funerals, again, a stupid idea. Why not tax cigarettes so much they become unaffordable, or better yet, make them illegal? They kill more people every year than guns.
I'm an American. My Daddy fought in Korea for my freedom and owning a gun was high on his list of freedoms.
