Over 18 rule?

Hi Just wanted to get some views on this. I am not, by the way, trying to get round this rule. Just trying to understand it.
I have characters in a story who are children at the present point of writing. By the time I get to 'the present day' they'll be over 18, and will, of course, engage in sexual activity.

Now, no-one discovers sex on their 18th birthday! I've read stories with characters kissing adults when as young as 13. These stories were obviously accepted. I've also read stories with 16 year old girls sitting on an adults knee and being aware of an erection. These same 16 year old girls were discussing sexual activities freely, though not involved.

I've had my underage characters ask questions about sex, and had them answered by an adult. These submissions were accepted and published.

It's a fine point, I know, but i'd hate to waste someones time and get a story rejected if I can get it right first time.

Any thoughts welcome.

Dave

Welcome to chaos, aka the AH.

If you turn on your PM, I have a copy of several replies to this question I'll gladly send you. I do not think it's worth reprinting here at present.

Good Luck.

Dave, this is not the real world. It's a story site. The publishers set the rules; they don't need a reason. (Which is not to say that they are in any way 'bad people'. Far from it. They give us a vehicle.)

My advice would be to stick well within the site's rules. And sleep well at night. Oh ... and welcome. :)
