I live in Tampa and my mother grew up here, or, rather, in unincorporated northern Hillsborough County. She told me that the north county was all countryside then. Her father and brother hunted, and didn't have to go far from their farm to do it. In the '50s there was only one high school in Hillsborough County, and the bus only picked up six kids north of Waters Avenue. Now the north county is so built up and sprawlburbed that there are seven high schools north of Waters.

A new mixed-use development called Encore is being built in what once was Tampa's black business and entertainment district, Central Avenue -- you can watch a short documentary about CA's history at the bottom of this page. It began to decline when Jim Crow ended -- once blacks could be served in white-owned businesses, they no longer had a pressing need for so many black-owned stores.

Well ya'll done missed us young feller. After living in central Florida 23 years we regretably wandered back to the midwest.
No, Hillsborough and Belle Glade ain't in the central part. Hillsborough county is where they bottle that fake well water.
I'd say Lakeland is in the middle but we wuz left of Gainesville in the real Florida of days gone by. Wy young feller we have ferrel hogs, Armydildos, Gopher Toiltles, and even a stray Panther and brown bear now and then. There's even a famous river kids used ta sing bout way down upon near there.

We don't know nuthing bout the old days except we lived them back up in corn country. Kids today don't have time. They have cell phones and lectric tablets in their face. They wouldn't know a good orgy if they ended up in one. Ya wanna compare then an now give as a holler. After our nap we'll git back.
