Gianforte apologizes to reporter and pledges contribution to press group

Dedicated to the wooden headed Box, who said "Well, we'll see what comes of this assault charge" and blamed the reporter and suggested he may have "used his microphone as a weapon."

On Wednesday, Gianforte issued a letter to Jacobs.
"My physical response to your legitimate question was unprofessional, unacceptable, and unlawful. As both a candidate for Office and a public official, I should be held to a high standard in my interactions with the press and the public. My treatment of you did not meet that standard."

"I made a mistake and humbly ask for your forgiveness," the letter stated.
Greg Gianforte, the Montana congressman-elect who is accused of "body slamming" a Guardian reporter, sent a letter of apology and will plead no contest to the misdemeanor assault charge, according to documents.

Gianforte also pledged to donate $50,000 to the Committee to Protect Journalists, an organization that promotes press freedom, as part of a settlement with the journalist, Ben Jacobs, "in the hope that perhaps some good can come of these events."

I'm not outraged that Box is proven utterly wrong. Of course, just like Nunes, he'll ignore it, and keep posting his dim witted remarks.

I like pointing that out.

So, you're that obsessed with box? Do you have feelings for him?

Hey, it's cool. We can all get past our differences in the name of flirting.

Box? Yoo hoo, Box!

"Well, we'll see what happens with those charges."

Well, we saw: he pled no contest. He admitted his guilt. Paid $50,000. Apologized to the reporter.

Beuhler?

He hasn't entered a plea yet, and will probably pleas "No Contest" on Monday.

BTW, I have never said he was innocent, but I did say we should let the court decide.

Box, she wants the D. She want the D! Are you going to fill her vagina full of your babies?

Ok, I'll check back in on Monday after he formally makes the Plea he says he's going to make. In the meantime, here's more from his letter:

Notwithstanding anyone’s statements to the contrary, you did not initiate any physical contact with me, and I had no right to assault you,” he wrote. “I am sorry for what I did and the unwanted notoriety this has created for you. I take full responsibility.”

Yes, you did imply he was innocent.

Actually, no. It's kind of like how the "MSM" wouldn't let Trump get away with saying Obama wiretapped his phones. They put up with lie after lie in his tweets, but took a stand with that one.

All the idiots, led by Mr. Woodenhead, who defended Gianforte now have to confront the FACT that Gianforte took full responsibility and said he was WRONG and he BROKE THE LAW.

Obama never tapped your phones, Trump.

Which is how this sad story will end. Reality will win.

Carnal is a freak, boy! She wants Box to slam it in her fartbox with no lube!

Hey, no apologies or excuses. That moronic "reporter" deserved a good beat down and while I don;t think Gianforte did that good a job on him, it's a good start. Gianforte's man enough to man up and take the consequences. he don't need no safe spaces and crayons and little puppies. Great guy!

I defy you to show me any post in which I said he was innocent, or even implied it, except to the extant I said he was innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. You know, I hope, the while system of American jurisprudence is based on the principle of innocent until proven guilty.

Technically the politician was legally wrong. In real life he stopped halfway short of what should have been done. The reporter was being an offensive asshat, and while he may have never physically started the altercation, he sure as hell deserves what he got. Like Chloe said, at least the pol was honest enough to say what he did and own it in what seemed to be a legit apology, unlike many 'sorry' comments you can tell are only done to make others happy.

That's the way it should be. Unfortunately that seems to be quickly fading away in the US lately

Well you want to have it both ways.

The reporter "deserved what he got" and yet Gianforte is a big man for apologizing for it and saying it was inexcusable. No, if it was merited he wouldn't plead no contest.

He committed a crime. The assault was an assault. His "apology" was part of a deal he made with Jacobs to avoid a very expensive civil suit, which he knew he would lose because: ASSAULT.

I'd love to call you all sorts of names and refute your comment, but you're right. I do see this in two ways. G committed a crime, and regardless of political opinion, I'm glad that he was adult enough to own his actions and submit what I think to be a legit apology. I don't think we disagree on that point. Please let me know if that's the case.

If the reporter was honest, he would admit to being a pushy asshole about how he was trying to obtain a statement. He was being an ass, and while all people deserve to be treated fairly while trying to report the truth, he was going about it the wrong way. If someone was getting in my face and ignoring the "we can talk later" or "talk to my press handlers" statements like he did, then he deserves to be put on his ass and taught a little respect.

Montana isn't NYC or London. It's a different mindset out there. If you act like an asshole, you will be treated like one. Actions mean more than words there, and if you can't understand or handle that, then don't be surprised when you get your ass handed to you. The reporter got a whisper of what he had coming.

They were both at fault, and I'll say that as willingly as I say that each of them got their just rewards.

Montana Congressman-Elect Greg Gianforte Pleads Guilty To Assaulting Reporter

Statement by Ben Jacobs:

On 24 May 2017, I was doing my job. I am a reporter. I asked then candidate Greg Gianforte a question about the most important issue of the day: the cost of the Republican health care plan.

The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office had just released its cost estimate. Mr Gianforte had repeatedly stated that he needed to see this figure before he could decide whether he supported a massive proposal that would reshape one sixth of the US economy.

I asked Mr Gianforte a question in the same manner I have asked questions of hundreds of politicians: congressmen, senators and even the man who is now our president. Mr Gianforte’s response was to slam me to the floor and start punching me. He injured my elbow, broke my glasses and thrust me into a national spotlight I did not seek or desire.

Mr Gianforte then lied in a defamatory public statement in which he insisted his unprovoked physical attack was somehow my fault. Weeks passed and I then received a written apology from Congressman-elect Gianforte. . He has acknowledged the importance of the free press and made a thoughtful contribution to protect journalists around the world.

He accepted his responsibility for his assault and for his defamation. I have accepted his apology and fully expect his thoughtful words to be followed by concrete actions. I am confident that he will be a strong advocate for a free press and for the first amendment. And I even hope to be able to finally interview him once he has arrived on Capitol Hill.

If this incident were simply between myself and the Congressman-elect, that would be one thing. But it’s had national ramifications on our politics and our culture. While I have no doubt that actions like these were an aberration for Congressman-elect Gianforte personally, I worry that, in the context of our political debate, they have become increasingly common. In recent years, our discourse has grown increasingly rancorous and increasingly vile. This needs to stop.

There will always be fundamental political disagreements in our society. However, these need not become personal and certainly should never become violent. I just hope this court’s decision can send a strong message about the necessity of civil discourse in our country, the important role of the free press and the need to help heal our political system.

The Left is finally getting their wish - censorship via violence. It's just not fair to the poor snowflakes when it happens to them.

As BLM activist Linda Durden says, "Boo Hoo!" lol
