As Millions Pour Into Georgia's Congressional Runoff, The Voting Machinery is Among The Worst in America: Hackable, Paperless, Unverifiable

There are so many disturbing aspects to the special election happening in Georgia’s sixth congressional district, it’s hard to know where to begin.

For starters, the election runs on Microsoft Server 2000. That is not a typo. “That’s a crap system,” said Douglas Jones, a computer science professor at the University of Iowa in a phone interview; adding that the database in use, Microsoft Access is a “toy database” that should never be used for industrial applications.

Fulton County Elections Director Richard Barron acknowledged in testimony on the troubled first round of the election, that the system is “inflexible.” But delving into his testimony further, and speaking to both local and national computer experts it’s evident that the results of the first round of the election on April 18th are legitimately suspect and that no election running on this type of computer system can be verified as accurate.

The April contest was conducted following multiple hacks on various offices, stolen electronic poll books that included a copy of Georgia’s statewide voter file, and a software system with such gaping security holes that the author of one report questioned if the gaps were a deliberate back door left open for potential manipulation. This is not the first time the question of software back doors on voting equipment has arisen. In a February 2017 article in the New Republic, Steve Friess wrote, “The machines are prone to malfunctions and miscounts, and many have back doors that can enable attackers to alter the outcome by infecting them with malware.”

The race is being widely viewed as a barometer of the Democrats 2018 midterm prospects. But unless Georgia heeds the advice of over 20 national and international computer experts and implements paper ballots and post-election audits in its upcoming June 20th race, the face off between Democratic newcomer Jon Ossoff and former Republican Secretary of State Karen Handel is likely to produce results that many voters will question.

We know nobody hacked the primary or else the Democrat would have won.

WTF!?!? I didn't know that.

Setting the stage for casting doubt after Democrat Jack Ossoff loses.
Or you could just read the article.
It doesn't matter who wins, there's absolutely no way to know who actually won if the current system is used.

This thread is about hope and change. They hope for a Democrat win to prove just how unpopular Abu Ivanka al-Amriki has become and how vulnerable the House and senate are in 2018. Of course, we all know the Russians do not want this to happen, so this election will be hacked for sure to make sure the republicans save a seat, because one seat, in the grand scheme of politics means everything...

:nods:

Redneck translation: If the Democrat wins, it's proof. If the Republican wins they're illegitimate....

PACs have ruined American democracy. Imagine allowing corporate and foreign donations to influence American voters. Why not offer free drinks to who ever votes for your candidate like in the old days.

Ossoff is getting pushback from his supporters due to his campaign's heavy-handed fundraising efforts. I donated money to Ossoff's campaign, two hours later I got an email, not thanking me, but telling me it wasn't enough, I needed to double my contribution. Ummm, how about "no".

I then proceeded to get bombarded literally daily with fundraising requests, most of them melodramatic end-of-the-world pleas.

I hope Ossoff wins, of course, because Karen Handel would be one of the very few people more odious than Donald Trump in Washington DC. Handel's hypocrisy is 4est_Gump-level.

Sorry. My bad. I submitted your address a couple dozen times.

I also signed you up for some phone trees. I figured you could use some social contact.

Oh. Also- be expecting some Robocalls.

Could be worse. I really made a boo-boo today! You had better be prepared for some visits from the FBI, NSA, ATF and DHS.

Georgia GOP congressional candidate stuns opponent with one question

During a debate Tuesday between candidates in the special election in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District, Republican candidate Karen Handel momentarily stunned her opponent, Democrat Jon Ossoff, with a simple question.

Each candidate was permitted to ask their opponent one question during the debate. When it was Handel’s turn, she asked, “So Jon, I guess what I would like to know is, exactly who are you going to vote for in this election?”

Ossoff, 30, lives outside of the district that he is running to represent and is therefore unable to vote in the election.

The republican running said in a debate last night that she doesn't believe in a living wage. If I were on Ossoff's team I'd run that soundbite on repeat until the election.
