Justice League: The New Wave (OOC - Interest Check)

Mary Alice Decker

Alter Ego – Mary Alice Decker

Alias – Mad Mary / Madtree / Madame Tree / The Treent.

Appearance
She's always had very pale eyes that often look pink when the light strikes them just right. She isn't an albino, but the lack of pigment in the eyes is extremely rare for non-albinos. She is in her late twenties and she's always loved tanning. It was a necessity for television and she could never get into spray tanning. Later she learned she needs lots of vitamin D, three times normal, so UV bathing brings her lots of pleasure. Eve so, her skin is only lightly tan like a pale brown. If she goes without sunbathing, her skin eventually takes on a pale ash color, which she never liked.

Her most striking quality is how pink her blush is. She's never needed to apply makeup to her cheeks and her skin is flawless and soft like the petal of a flower. It was in part that youthful purity that drew her audience in when she was headlining "Hey Alice!" Otherwise she is tall at 5' 8" with a thin, athletic build. She likes walking more than running, and does kick boxing.

Personality
She can be bossy, prone to anger, and hard hitting. From her days as a star, she has an edge and expectation about how people will respond to her. However, it protects her fragile inner self which never healed from her mother's abuse and the abduction in India. She wants to help and can be a people pleaser. She's a social creature who enjoys staying up to date with what her friends are doing. She gets bored by overly academic nattering, preferring gossip and practical matters related to people and things she cares about. She is concerned about fashion, her appearance, and social status in relation to people in her social network.

She is an altruist at heart but has learned to guard that "weakness" from being taken advantage of. She takes seriously her responsibility to help and to do the right thing, but bases her moral compass on established traditions and laws, upholding authority and rules, rather than drawing from philosophy or mysticism. She does struggle to remember that people come from many backgrounds and perspectives, and what may seem right to them isn’t always an absolute truth.
She loves to be of service, enjoying any role that allows them to participate in a meaningful way, so long as they know that they are valued and appreciated. This is especially apparent in her relationships. She is loyal and devoted to her partners and friends. She respects hierarchy, and does her best to position themselves with some authority, at home and at work, which allows them to keep things clear, stable and organized for everyone.

Her biggest faults are being worried about her social status, inflexibility, reluctant to improvise, vulnerable to criticism, can be too needy, and too selfless. She has a tendency to think her friends can do no wrong, ignoring or justifying their faults. It's something she's conscious of, which is why she can be guarded when she first meets someone.

She is great at using her sensitivity to stay in tune with what motivates and drives her friends. In their weaker moments, she can sometimes use these observations to manipulate others. However, she is far more interested in maintaining strong relationships; it's just that manipulation can be a great tool for doing so. Altruists that she is, she always tries to use her powers for good, encouraging and inspiring others. By and large, her personality is a pleasant and sincere one. Her energy and social intelligence win her many acquaintances and friends, and her support and dedication keep those friendships close and strong. With so much zest for life and company, dull moments are few and far between.

Gear (optional)
Nothing special. She has some money left from her childhood days, but her mother got most of it. She has a nice place in SoHo, a bike, some designer clothes, and an iPhone.

Power/ability – See above. A tree is hard to kill, even if you cut it down its roots live on. Biomancy, connection to the Green, healing, treeform, etc.

She's become an aspect of the Green, and briefly communed with what remains of Parliament of Trees, touching upon their communal mind was unsettling and disorientating. However, it has allowed her to understand the bond with the Green and how it might be used to serve the Earth.

She can influence the Red in the same way all plants do. She can soothe savages with beautiful floral perfumes or make an asshole so nauseous they vomit their stomach up. She can change the makeup of both creatures from the Red and the Green. She manipulates creatures affiliated with the Green directly and therefore her control and power is doubled. Those creatures of the Red she manipulates indirectly like plants have been doing since the first animal arose to eat them. Mostly her manipulates deal with buffing and enhancing a life form such as healing them, or giving them enhancements from the Green like thorns or nutrients. In the way of trees, the easiest mechanism for her to do this is by giving a piece of herself to the creature in the form of a piece of fruit or leaves. She prefers to make poultices and herbal remedies to direct manipulation of cells. She can animate plants to entangle, accelerate their growth, or even move and attack. Presently this all requires her touch.

Drawing upon the Green, she can alter her human body into a tree-hybrid. This war form is seven feet tall and as dense as wood. She's over a thousand pounds while still looking largely humanoid. She can lift a car. Flowers blossom along her head. Her skin is pale ash with a striation of welts like the bark of a cherry tree. She has thirty foot aura of sweet perfume. She sprouts a series of branches along her back giving her four extra appendages and allowing for 360 degree coverage. She can detect tremors and see via the vibrations caused by movement. Her powers are enhanced while in this form as her connection to the Green is more open. However, her thinking is slower and more logical. She doesn't move as fast in general.

She can fully transform into a tree as both a form of camouflage and as a refuge. As a tree, she can't move but is even more durable, dense, and long lived. She can feed from the nutrients in the ground and the sunlight. She retains some distant awareness of what's going on around her, but her connection to the Green is fully manifest. So she can rejuvenate and commune with all connected plant life albeit the conversations aren't humanlike.

Weakness – She's either a human or a tree. Fire isn't a great thing for either. She also has an irrational but partially justified fear of axes and Roundup.

Background

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachael_Taylor

Mary Alice Decker is the former child star of the television series "Hey Alice!" and is the best friend of Gopika "Gogo" Goel, a B-list meta who could absorb spirit energy to increase her physical abilities like jumping and strength. Mary's mother Alice abused and exploited her, and Mary struggled with addiction when she was young. Gopika was adopted by Alice to improve Mary's image during sweep's week of the third season of "Hey Alice!" after Gopika's family was killed by a building collapse during a particularly nasty attack on New York. Mary and Gopika have a love-hate relationship, but always have had each other's back.

Mary became emancipated from her mother while still a minor, but her career in show buisness petered out as she lost her cherub youthfulness. She went to college but wasn't very good at it. She got a degree in biology, but her plans of becoming a doctor didn't pan out. The only medical schools that would take were the shady ones in South America. She was in the Peace Corps for a tour in rural India with Gopika, where Mary was assaulted by a crazy cult trying to harvest her corn silk golden hair. It left a stain on her psyche. She keeps her hair short ever since. When she came back, she wasn't able to find much work. Her old agent Sal was able to find her a gig as the announcer for the New York Lottery and some work as a hand model.

It was while working at the Lottery that she was sucked into the coming of an non-earth super power named Kiz the Void Binder. By the hand of fate, she become his Herald when she willingly and publicly declared the signs of his arrival to millions. That plus trying to kill herself from the stress of being tortured by the men in black triggered her meta gene.

Haha, oh man.

Now we have two Hellcats in this thread!

Not to mention at least two gorgeous Australians playing Americans. :D

That looks really cool to me. An interesting balance of soft arts and heavy-hitting.

I think her pollen powers will synergize well with Sandman's mists.

I would like a full attributes breakdown numerically, but I like what you have so far.

Varshanka, any thoughts?

Yeah that was me being a little lazy and watching too much Jessica Jones.

I forget the numerical translation. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

"Too much" Jessica Jones! As if there's any such thing!

Besides, it's not like this family of threads doesn't have plenty of Marvel analogues. We just fought a cadre of them! Also there's Ghost Rider. And Renegade is kind of a Mystique/Deadpool mash-up.

The important part, to me, when adapting characters from other canons to this DC-based one, is to integrate them in such a way that they seem seamlessly part of events, as though they were there all along. And you've succeeded in that!

Intellect and Combat, to reiterate, are on a slightly different scale than the other attributes, as peak human is approximately 90 and then from 90-100 things increase exponentially from superhuman to cosmic.

Intellect - self-explanatory.

1 = Solomon Grundy go ARRR
100= Cosmic Braintrust

Strength
1-25= 1- 25 is peak human (Batman)
25-40= Class 2- 20 tons, enhanced to base superhuman (Cyborg)
40-60= Class 20-60 tons is beast-like super strength (Hawkman)
60-90 = Class 60-100 ton (Aquaman)
90-100= Class 100+ ton Immeasurable god-like strength (Superman, Captain Marvel, New Gods, Hercules)

Speed
1-25= peak human (Usain Bolt)
25-40= enhanced to base superhuman (faster than a Ferrari- 230 mph)
40=60= Sonic speed (768 mph)
60=80= Super-sonic (915-3,806 mph)
90=100= Ultrasonic and Beyond(>16,250)

Durability
1-25= Tough as nails (Wildcat)
25-40=Harder than Rock (Brick)
40-60=Harder than Steel (Cyborg)
60=80=Harder than Diamonds (Superboy)
90=100=Nigh-Invulnerable God (Doomsday, Plastic Man)

Power (How much energy/damage you can potentially output, can be through magic technology or other means)
1-25= Man-slayer (Blockbuster)
25-40=Mob-slayer (Mountain buster)
40-60=Army-slayer(Town-City Buster)
60-80=Titan-slayer(Nation Buster to Planet Buster)
90-100=God-slayer(Multi-Planet buster to Galaxy)

I feel like I've done decently well kicking off the dust in Challengers today, I hope those turned out all right.

You guys have been doing lovely work in the main thread, thank you for keeping that going during my recharge; I'm hoping to visit that and "Worlds' Finest" tomorrow and Saturday.

Aww Chas...... You have provoked an epic post coming up..... What was your Superwoman like? From a chick that knew her twice.......

I was thinking, since Earth-247, Jon's native Earth, is based heavily on a pre-Flashpoint Earth, that their Superwoman would have briefly been Lucy Lane, kind of like in the New Krypton storyline.

But the idea of a world where his father's counterpart is a woman?

That is definitely an intriguing idea.

Varshanka, would The Doctor have permission to yoink Kyle aboard The TARDIS with her teke?

Or did you want to do a thing first?

Now or later?

If now, would he be squicked by the fact that she just burst a large percentage of the major capillaries in her body and has blood all down her face?

yes.. he'd be squicked. Plus if she used TK and he saw her face he'd think he caused it.

sorry for my absence...just a hell of a week. Will be reading and posting catch ups.

You're doing fine, Aussie.

I had a couple of slow weeks in there myself, so no need to self-flagellate.

With regards to Firestorm vs. The Witching Cloak...

...there was this great scene in this little known Neil Gaiman adventure called "Legend of The Green Flame" where Clark tries to deep-scan Alan Scott's Lantern Battery with his vision powers and has to close his eyes and look away-- it was like gazing into infinity, and actually gave Supes a headache.

I imagine Firestorm gazing into the molecular structure of The Witching Cloak with her powers would be a similar experience? What do you think?

I would think it would be very similar. She would be able to grasp the basic code of the materials it is made from, but the magic that is woven into it will be way beyond her.

So it is possible to make it whole again, but if it will have it's magical qualities is anybody's guess.
