Here are Sam Harris' words on the Left. I recommend listening to the video, but I typed it out for you because I'm such a nice person. I hope this explains why there are so many people who disassociate themselves from both the left and the right yet still vote Republican. If you truly don't get it after this, you should just consider yourself a pawn in a religious cult.

There are not Trump Supporters and the Left. There are human beings who think, and many of those people think the Left is just as bad as Trump Supporters. Anyway, here you are. You may read this, listen to it, or neither. Doesn't matter. I'm 99.999999999% sure it will change nobody's mind, and I'm sure people will still leave this thinking that there are hundreds of millions of Americans who are Trump Supporters rather than 'We're Tired of Your Shit, Leftist' supporters. But I digress...

There is virtually no space to occupy between the extreme Left and the extreme Right that doesn't get you attacked by both sides on this issue. By virtue of that conversation (Seen Here), I am getting attacked as an 'Islamist Shill' and a 'Racist Xenophobe.' It's incredible! There is no place, not even a razor's edge, where you can stand to make sense on this issue.

The moment you use violence to prevent someone from speaking, you are on the wrong side of the argument by definition. How is that not obvious on the Left at this point? You're gonna, what, burn down your own university to prevent somebody from expressing views that you could otherwise just criticize? All these protests were seen in response to Right Wing or Quasi-Right Wing speakers being invited to college campuses by I'm sure the campus Republicans... these are so uncivil and unproductive... and again, this is almost entirely a phenomenon of the left. I mean if you heard generically that some college campuses had erupted in violence because a student mob had prevented a lecture from taking place, the people who wanted to hear that lecture were spat upon as they entered the halls and finally attacked, you could bet with what... 99% confidence that this was coming from the Left.

Now, in the age of Trump, when you really want to be able to say things against creeping Right Wing authoritarianism, having an authoritarian anti-free speech movement subsume the Left is a disaster politically. But I actually think the Left is irredeemable at this point, and this is why I begun using the phrase 'The New Center.' I think we need a New Center to politics. I don't know how you ever get the people writing for the Intercept or the people on The Young Turks to be reasonable human beings given what they done in recent years. And that's the Left as it currently stands.

Of course, it's no accident that the Women's March, which otherwise seem like a great thing, was vitiated by it's alliance with Linda Sarsour and these closeted and semi-closeted Islamists who have coopted the Women's Movement and convinced millions of women apparently that the hijab is a sign of women's empowerment. That's fairly mind boggling. Just so there's no confusion on this point, I think you, Dear Listener, should be able to wear the hijab if you want to. But you should recognize that most of the women the world over who are veiled to one or another degree are living that way not out of choice... or certainly not out of what could be considered a free choice, living in a context of a community that will treat them like whores or worse if they don't veil themselves. That's not the political empowerment of women, and someone like Linda Sarsour, again one of the principle organizers of the Women's March, is a theocrat who lies about this, who attacks Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

This is how the Left will die, by on the basis of its own moral relativism, locking arms with Islamism and 'Stealth Theocracy,' which is what it has done. Just as you know if you travel too far Right on the political spectrum, you will encounter the most repulsive, the most callous, the most authoritarian attitudes, I think you should know that if you travel too far Left, you will encounter a kind of moral confusion and identity politics that is, in its actual application to the world, little better. I don't see how that changes at this point.

I absolutely defy anybody to find a riot anywhere in the USA, with arson and violence and vandalism, that is started by people on the right in protest of left wing speakers, etc.

I believe it was a Rethuglican who body slammed a reporter to the ground and began punching him because he was threatened by a question about healthcare.

The moment you use violence to prevent someone from speaking (and shut down the free press), you are on the wrong side of the argument by definition. How is that not obvious to the Right at this point?

Lol!

Why, you'd think a few riots were worse than body slamming a reporter, or murdering Good Samaritans trying to protect a teen from hate and harassment.

This isn't about the Right, now is it? This is about a New Center, meaning not the Left nor the Right.

How do you not get it?

No, it's about a long rant too full of bogus points and reasoning and caricaturizations to take seriously.

Yes. Those 2 incidents by 2 people are nothing in comparison with the mobs of violent people suppressing free speech.

There is absolutely no logical point you can make to refute the fact that it is wrong to use violence to suppress free speech. You can bitch, whine, and cry about Republicans all you want. It changes nothing about reality. This is not an "Us vs. Them" mentality. Only you have that view, and it's skewed by your own toxic bias.

That didn't quite answer the question did it. Besides, the KKK was founded by Democrats. Nuff said, the Democrat violence continues incessantly...

How cute of you twist history to fit your dialogue.

I, on the other hand, did a bit of research. "A group including many former Confederate veterans founded the first branch of the Ku Klux Klan as a social club in Pulaski, Tennessee, in 1866. " And while KKK was founded in response to the Republican Party's attempt (at that time) to bring about inequalitiesfor blacks, times have changed. (http://www.history.com/topics/ku-klux-klan) I mean they aren't calling themselves the alt-left, correct? Richard Spencer is the alt-right.

What was it you said? "Nuff said."

The Democratic Party fought for slavery, segregation, and lynchings. They also fought against the Civil Rights Acts of the 50s and 60s. The Republican Party was founded as an Anti-Slavery Party. The entire goal was to end slavery. The Democrats sat 7-2 in the Supreme Court and ruled that slaves did not have rights because they weren't citizens but property. Democrats started the Civil War. A Democrat killed President Lincoln.

As a matter of fact, everything passed to give black Americans Civil Rights was passed thanks to Republicans.

Democrats kept fighting. They implemented poor taxes, literacy tests, laws preventing blacks from owning property and running businesses.

It was all enforced by terrorism - the KKK.

Woodrow Wilson was a Democratic president who decided to show the very first movie at the White House, the racist film "The Clansmen."

It was a hard fought effort for the Republicans, and when Democrats finally lost, Lyndon Johnson (D) said "I'll have them niggers voting Democrat for 200 years." So, since then, Democrats have catered to minorities and used their votes to stay in office.

AND wouldn't you know it... TRUMP was a lifelong Democrat until now. *facepalm* So, we should really be thanking Democrats for Trump's presidency.

You millennials sure don't know your history nor how to bother to cite anything. Man, our colleges are failing....or did any of you bother to go to college. Too busy to sucking big black dick? Not that I care - you just feel the need to tell me EVERY time you post. I thought I'd beat you to it this time.

Here is a an article providing Trump's voting history. Lifelong democrat, not so much.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...ps-got-a-particularly-strange-voting-history/

Research, millennial.....less bullshit.

I won't bother to call you out on all your other bullshit. Catching you in one lie is enough to show you're post is full of shit. :)

Don't forget the Dixiecrat migration to the republican party.

They switched at some point, I am aware of that. I don't know when or how it happened, but if we want to get technical about which party has clean hands, I think it's safe to say "Neither."

Thus - 'The New Center' as Sam puts it.

That's why we refer to some Liberals as nutjobs (Carnal Flower) and some as Classic Liberals.

That's Dr. Millennial who doesn't know his history or site his references, thank you very much. What's your degree in, uhm... Dr.? Or Ms.?

Which degree? I actually have more than one (and your joke might have been funny had you applied it properly - they called it an Mrs. degree - you know because you went to college to find a husband. Good try though.)

And do you need me to explain the colors for you? So you know what Trump voted? I want you to understand how wrong your statement was when you said he historically voted Democrat.

You probably won't believe this, but I wasn't referring to the idea that women only go to college to find a husband. Since I went to college from 2006-2012 and my graduating class was 80% female, I didn't even think about that. Seriously, that wasn't my thought process going into that.

Also, as much as it pains me to say this... I was wrong about Trump being a Democrat. There ya go.

You win this time, Daza. Besides, as I've told you before, you're one of the last people I want to go toe-to-toe with intellectually. So, I'm going to bow out at that. I'll concede your other points and leave this thread for the evening. Probably for the best since I need sleep anyway.

They switched when the democrats, with JFK, embraced the civil rights movement.

That's not his voting record; it's his registration record. They may or may not be the same, but we have no way of knowing. That's why it's called a secret ballot.

The Dixiecrats did not migrate to the GOP. They were formally a party in 1948, but then rejoined the Dems. In 1968, George Wallace, the Dem former gov. of GA, founded the American Independent Party, which was made up of disgruntled Southern Democrats and a few former Republicans. There was a 20 year gap between Dixiecrats and the AIP.

ETA: Here is more about the Dixiecrats, in case you're interested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dixiecrat

Dixiecrat is also used as a term for the southern democrats that migrated to the GOP. Yes it was a party in 1948 - that is not the only way the term is used historically, in the media or in common vernacular.

No, I'm not really interested. I understood the history of fluctuating between the parties just fine.

And while you are correct it is what he registered, the OP stated Trump was a lifelong democrat. Obviously, he was not REGISTERED as one. I made my point.

I assume this. I didn't read the rant. I'm just happy when Chris is expending his time and effort writing political rants on a porn discussion board that I don't bother to read. :D

I have never seen The Intercept or The Young Turks. I think Sam's bubble is distorted.
