For those that remember gilT2 and bandit...
Gil passed away this morning after a long illness.
Thoughts and love to bandit :rose:

Sorry to hear about Gil he was a nice guy. Even when someone has a long term illness it's still a shock when they pass away. Hope Bandit is coping ok.

Morning all,

Well Summer is still hanging around and being a pain in the butt. Still in that humid weather zone in Melbourne town but thankfully the nights cool off. Just too damn humid to do anything physical outside. Thought about those guys and gals on construction sites and the road crews. No place to hide and no rain to cool the ground off. When you turn on the cold tap you get hot water.

Haven't been that active lately due to knee issues but surprisingly getting back on the exercise bike is actually helping, still hurts but hurts less. Rather annoying.

The Grand Prix is on later in the month in Melbourne town so as per usual they have closed off entry to the Albert Park area, seems to get earlier each year, started in late Feb this year.

Hope your week is going well.

Afternoon all,

Well International Women's Day is over, Moomba is over, however fucking Summer...not over. Talk about a visitor over staying their welcome. Even the plants are not impressed, they are totally confused. Some are flowering others have been shedding leaves since day one of March.

Discovered that John West is selling oysters from China, what the heck! Why are we importing oysters when we have such a rich seafood tradition?

I see Biggest Loser has given up on fat people, now they are focusing on chubby people who were once "normal".

Well the nbn is finally in my area properly. Have had the cable attached to the side of the house since Oct last year. Also found out that I have to book an installation, doesn't happen otherwise. No doubt this transition has more surprises for us all.

That new Travel Guides show is hilarious, especially like that middle age couple's reaction to everything.

Hope the coming week is a lot cooler and back to normal temps for this time of year and thank goodness daylight savings only has another couple of weeks to go. Stupid idea these days.

Summer just came late this year...it was relatively mild. We didn't actually have any 40+ days in Melbourne, which normally happens in February.

I steer clear of Biggest Loser, Travel Guides and all those sort of shows. I find it helps me stay sane.

It'll be a long time before the NBN reaches my area...the technology will be even more out of date before that happens.

And for the record...I don't mind Daylight Savings Time, though it's a pain switching back and forth.

Afternoon all,

Yeah, daylight savings is finally over and what did I do with the extra hour, well caught up on emails and still had time to look at Landline. As a city boy it's interesting to see what is happening in country areas.

Well the weather has finally turned to normal conditions even it's a little cool for some. School holidays have started so time to stay away from shopping centres. A thought for all those parents. Then we get Easter. Is it bad that I've already purchased Easter egg stuff?

Went to the movies last week, saw Logan. Discovered that there wasn't any cheap Tues tickets. Did get a hint that joining Village Cinemas club would allow that. Whilst now considered a pensioner it doesn't get me any discounts. Enjoyed the movie. The little girl was possibly the star of the show. No more Wolverine so sad for those fans but possibly a sequel when the girl grows up to take revenge. Female Wolverine!

Current video game - Mass Effect Andromeda.

A thought for those battling floods in Qld and NSW. Now Rocky seems next. Just goes to show how large the cyclone was and the areas impacted.

A gamer huh... not many of us oldies are these days. Stick mainly to strategy these days, one of my favs would be Tropico 4.... gotta love the sarcasm.

My youngest has my WOW account which I occasionally borrrow back.

On another track, would love to know if any on here still hear from Bertrande, Ladybird, Mortal Wombat, Australwind, Breathe.... to name a few from the old days?

Life goes on, people move on..... (damn - does that mean I am stuck?)
;)

Hope all safe and unaffected after cyclone debbie. We caught only the skirts of the rain here and it was really welcome. 84mm after a long dry summer. may have some grass going into winter afterall.

One local fella missing in flood waters. Tried to walk through them to his friends place and hasn't been seen since.

No more WOW for me. I played through vanilla, bc, wrath, cataclysm and Pandaria. The fucking panda's finished it for me. That and screaming 12 year old raid leaders, all the 'anal' jokes in guild chat and paying 15 dollars a month for a game you never finished. Mostly I just wanted my life back. I miss my toons in a most unhealthy manner.

Playing 7 days to die at the moment. It's only in beta but its mind numbing. Also revisiting some old fps, the early call of duties, stalker, far cry. The nostalgia is fun. j

I hear you on that. Same for me although because the son pays the subscription now I hop on and check the new expansion then stop again. Think BC was my fav, took a bit out of the complexity (grind) of levelling and gearing up, but some dungeons were harder than ever. Good memories of the old days when you actually talked to people and they would help you.

Hey WQ

Nope that's just life. I've reconnected recently with a friend from a trip to Tassie in the mid 80's. Going up to visit her and the family in Aug. Been talking about visiting for several years but life was rather busy, now it's going to happen. Life stuff just gets in the way of staying connected with people so no you're not stuck, rather normal actually.

My Christmas card list these days is a lot smaller than it was 10 yrs ago.

Yep been a gamer for many years. I got hooked on the first PS console, still have the PS2 mainly cause there are two racing games I liked from way back then. It's annoying when these consoles are not backwards compatible. Not much into gaming on PC's although did play Elder Scrolls on PC so that got me into that series. Was happy that it went to console.

Playing games was a good stress relief method. Rather than punching the walls or people I could take my frustrations out on the game. These days it's just fun plus keeps the mind ticking over. Surprisingly they are using it to help with the elderly to keep their minds active.

Afternoon all,

Thought I was going to come back to lots of posts since last month, but not so. Obviously people busy doing stuff, left to the older posters to keep things moving.

Well a new month and a change of weather finally. Time to use the heater again. New couch arrived last week just as one of my power boards died. Thought the vacuum had given up. Had to resort to an extension to plug in the new couch. Yep electric foot rests on this new one, and it's so damn comfortable it's easy to relax too much and fall asleep, especially with the heater going.

Mother's Day coming up soon. Taking my mum to her new fav spot near Geelong for lunch. Also organising a birthday party for her 90th in July. Four generations of the family will be there or so I hope, given the "me" generation we have these days.

Hope your weekend goes well. My AFL team has done well this year, hope they can keep that going for the remainder of the season.

Evening all,

Hope everyone showed their mum how much they are appreciated on the weekend. At least it didn't even if we hardly saw the sun in Melbourne on Sunday.

Well reverse of fortunes for my AFL team, lost the last few games hopefully things will turn around to follow on from the great start to the year.

So the budget, as usual nothing for me except the expectation of paying more tax. Drug testing for the dole, first it was "meaningful employment" now this. Perhaps money better spent on sending them to rehab once identified.

Hope your week goes well.

You're not alone darkelf!
We're out here still, muddling through as cool weather gives us blessed relief!

Good to see it isn't a void in here. As for the weather well depending where you are in Qld "cool" is a relative term. Saw all the fog in Qld and NSW this morning. No fog here or at least I couldn't see any. Actually got up extremely early, not sure why, hopefully its not old people's disease, which would be annoying considering I don't even qualify for the Seniors Card yet.

Afternoon all,

Well funny weather we're having around the country today. Fog in Qld and NSW, rain in SA and WA, sunny stuff in Melbourne, rain in the west of the state. Not really that cold.

So Gonski looks like its going for a Gonski with all the fighting about Catholic schools not getting their promised funding. They should know govt's don't keep promises. Then again there are wins for some Catholic schools on the lower end of the scale. So who knows what's right.

Saw that Rump is in Saudi Arabia mixing it with kings. Funny how their opulence seems understated compared to Rump's gold chairs and curtains. A wonder he hasn't changed the colour scheme for Air Force One.

So cocaine Cassie hey. So much for being miss innocent as she initially claimed. Can't blame the local law enforcement although would be interesting to see who tipped them off.

The Comm Games is being talked about. Tickets on sale I believe. Won't be going. Went to the Comm Games here in Melbourne and the Olympics in Sydney. Will be watching on TV though.

Had to change the light bulb in the oven again. Why is it that the factory components last longer than the replacements? Same with car batteries. Some one is getting ripped off...think its us.

Hope your week goes well.

Hi there bit of a chilly day here in South Aus, just when i have the day off from work the sun decides to hide

Hi there and welcome. Don't remember if you've posted here before if not well just get stuck in and post something about yourself so people and get to know you. Not many people around these days but it's like a transit lounge, people pass thru every so often.

Well it's a rainy on and off day here in Melbourne town which is probably annoying some given that it's the weekend, but it has been a dry year thus far in Melbourne so I guess we need the rain.

Afternoon all,

Was watching Landline today and saw that Winter will be a dry one compared to normal years, then again these days what is normal weather and is it changing?

Had to change a cupboard handle yesterday and discovered these new screws are a pain in the butt. Now you need cut them to length so needed a hammer, chisel, file plus the normal screwdriver just to change one handle. Why can't they just keep things simple. Now not looking forward to changing all the kitchen cupboard handles as part of the kitchen make over.

Happy that my footy team won. Was watching the FA Cup, only saw the first half but not surprised that Arsenal won, they were the better team on the day.

Well the Ashes should be interesting if the dispute keeps going. It's all dollars these days and who should get what.

Going to be a tourist tomorrow for a short time, looking for Melbourne souvenirs. Going to visit some friends in Qld in a couple of months so looking for gifts.

Hope your week goes well, if not then just give it time.

Greetings aussies!

Today is the first day I have managed to wear shoes this month, so I actually got out of the house by myself for a while (had both big toes operated on and have been battling infection). It will be nice to be able to get out more and exercise again - I have been a couch potato for almost a month, sitting with my bandaged feet raised.
I swear I have put on 5kg

Finally, it is getting cooler! I was starting to think winter weather was never going to come!

I am on a Zero Waste/sustainable living kick atm. The abc has been running a show called 'War on Waste' and it has opened my eyes to just what I contribute as a consumer to our waste issue in Australia.
I have been making an effort to check every single thing I consume, and monitor every bit of waste I generate...... and I have been shocked by my [almost] unthinking disregard to my wasteful life!
So - a few changes have been made.
I now buy all my fruit and veg from my local growers market, and I leave everything loose that I can and for things like mushrooms, etc I use cloth/mesh re-usable bags.
Went and had a talk to my butcher and he is happy to wrap my meat in paper and put it into re-usable glass/pyrex containers that I provide.
Staples like lentils, chick peas, etc, I can buy from my health food store in my own containers as well.
I have also changed out personal care products to go toxin-free and plastic packaging free. Found local awesome shampoo and conditioner bars that come wrapped in paper.... and they work really, really well! My hair loves them :)
There's a few things I can't get away from, but I can minimise to the n'th degree.

I am researching indoor composting as well - the freezing temps here mean that outdoor composting doesn't work so well for half the year.

Anyway...... as you can see, my time stuck at home hasn't been entirely wasted!

Afternoon all,

So here we are at the start of Winter and it seems the weather is also onboard with the idea. This is the first week I've actually felt the cold in the morning. Had a busy week, dentist on Monday, and coffee with former workmates, blood test today plus chatting to my brother about his birthday lunch next week which was lurching into chaos until I stepped in.

Nothing rain wise, but that is all set to change next week.

Have come to despise the local bus service, was not impressed with their effort on Monday. Might have to revert to driving to a station next time I venture into the city. The trains however are rather good, issue is getting to the station since parking is basically non-existent.

Went tourist shopping on Monday which was an interesting experience since I live here. Prices weren't that bad but the variety in some things was not that good. On the upside I did buy $50 worth of hand made chocolates for myself, oh yes and donuts.

Hope your weekend goes well.

Afternoon all,

Well I've spent about an hour searching for a coffee cup I was using just a few hours ago. So much for multi-tasking. Was doing several things at once and now can't find the damn thing.

Went to Crown here in Melbourne for a buffet lunch on Wed. It was ok but I expected more variety. Doubt I will be going back. Luckily the weather wasn't too bad for a walk along Southbank, rather windy though.

So the Comey thing is gaining some traction. Interesting how he felt threatened enough to keep his own notes on conversations with Rump. I can certainly identify with that scenario as I had to do something similar with a former self proclaimed Director, who was later removed due to his actions.
