s'okay - i'm not a picky eater, far from it, but the move from the UK to the USofA has been an eyeopener in some regards. from one 'foreigner' to any others visiting here, some recommendations :)

Ranch Dressing - BACON

Dean's French Onion Dip

Slaw burgers!

'proper' mississippi mud pie :catroar:

Probably do hamburgers in the states better than back home. Try find a place that calls it a homeburger. Or else make at home yourself. Supposedly the home of deep fried chicken. More a Canadian and some northern states thing but try All-dressed chips (crisps) if you can find them. Same with hotdogs and burgers. Would not be surprised if Yanks can do a proper hotdog better than Brits.

Ever had Mexican food?

She's from the UK, not Tajikistan.

Yeah, well, just because something is called 'Mexican food' doesn't mean it is.

<goes off and grumbles about all the Peruvian food being called Mexican in DC>

Also, BBQ.

Sausage, Brisket, Ribs, Shredded Pork and Chicken. Slaw, Cornbread, Potato Salad

You'll have to go to Texas, Memphis, Kansas City, somewhere in the Carolina's (if you like vinegar anyway), and maybe see if you can find a place that does the whole hog.

It is all BBQ, but it is all different.

It is right up there with Mexican food!

I've had brilliant mexican in Wales.

It's not Tajikistan.

Hominy.

Enjoy.
what is this thing you speak of?

(and i don't like grits. or pickled eggs.)

the local place i had a slawburger in - oh wow, so scrummy. also had those little ones, krystals, nice enough but didn't blow me away... tbh i'd take a macD's 1/4lber with cheese over those any day of the week.

had chilli and stuff at home, but no doubt nothing like it should be made for props, but we went to an amazing mexican place about 5 weeks or so ago - can't recall the name of the actual dish, but it was tamales EDIT: no it wasn't, it was an enchilladas dish. flippin' hell, fabulous flavour but the serving was the size of a breeze block i swear! I can rarely each much at a time, and only got through 1 of the tamales and some salad, and even so was in agony for hours afterwards. a large hiatus hernia means i am best off eating small amounts more often, but now, with way less stress and having the time to eat when i want, it's pretty much not an issue. i wanna try some tacos soon!

this is a universal truth about most foods it would seem.

I love pozole for this reason.

You also forgot western BBQ, whole nother concept.

Oh....you can only have good Mexican in the Southwest.....

How cute.

Being cute is hard work.

I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

The same way I wouldn't wish Mexican food from NYC on anyone

A McD's 1/4lber is not a real hamburger. Not sure what it is but it's not a real burger. Wendy's maybe if they still make them fresh every day. But even then not a home burger. Is a truck stop a 1/2 hour up the 401 that has 1/2 pound home burgers. Best burger for many a mile.

Somewhere south if the border people are aghast at your description of Tex-Mex as "mexican food".

Oh no no.

You can only get Tex-Mex in Texas.

Mexican is waaaay different. I'd never expect to get Tex-Mex outside of Texas, or, maybe, like within 20 miles of the Texas border.

No sir, no way.

Think this is what Butters thought would happen in her thread?

Think we should start arguing Giant Cowboys too?

Also, you're welcome world! Frozen stuff is wonderful!

Try the homemade buttermilk ranch...even better.

It was someone else's face first....

Butters, try buffalo wings. They're traditional Mexican fare.

Not really, but they are good.

You are somewhat obligated to enjoy grits in the South. How have you had them? Just some butter is my preference but tge way southeners eat them is endless. Sweetened with sugar, or honey. Savory seasonings added. Cheese grits.

I live amongst actual Mexicans. None of them describe their cusine as "brilliant."
