Make sure to look over your shoulder periodically. Apparently you can have very very large carnivores come up behind you.

It's not unusual at Summit Lakes (There must be innumerable lakes named 'summit') for the snow drift to still be there in late August. I have cycled (on my MTB) over this pass and although the water looked like a good idea for cooling off after the climb of a little over 1000m, it was foolhardy. Luckily, I had wintery gear to put on for the descent down the Willow side of the pass.
