Evening all.

I'm looking for some new podcasts to get into. I've already trawled through TANIS, The Black Tapes, Welcome To Night Vale, et al. Any and all suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

no comedy bang bang? sick fucks.

and that's about it, really. though, with special guest, lauren lapkus is also amusing.

and i'm thinking about getting into paul f tompkins podcast because i love him, but i haven't done it yet.

mainly because he's on like every third episode of comedy bang bang, so why bother?

and that's all i got. my interest in the whole podcast thing is still fairly recent and i just like the funny shit.

ooh, i'm glad i edited in the link. i didn't know there was a new one.

Nothing new to suggest that isn't already well known or boringly wonkish, but I'll second the earlier suggestion of 'S-Town' anyway. Just one of the most beautiful listens ever...

How did I miss all of these? Adding as many as my phone will allow...💥

I have a lot of the same as LTR but I will include:

Pod Save America
Embedded
The Trail Went Cold
Thin Air Podcast
Breakdown
Phoebe's Fall
Missing Maura Murray
Stranglers
In the Dark
Sleep with Me (for sleep actually)
My Favorite Murder
Undisclosed
Mortified

btw

the podcast Rabbits is being made by the same people who did the black tapes and tanis

they're talking about carmen san diego's transparent boobs. it's good shit.

Most of these are on my list too; others from the same 'Pod Save America' people are very good too. 'Missing Maura Murray' was excellent, if understandably sad.

If true crime is your thing, 'Untold: Daniel Morgan" tells a story well.

Fantastic! I just subscribed to it. I have a shitastic commute to and from work every day so I try to mix it up between an audiobook and podcasts.

Likewise, currently in the audiobook phase. The saner choice over mindnumbing boredom, eye contact and conversation with strangers, other such savagery :)

There is sometimes a middle world - podcasts about audiobooks. I am sure they exist.

But at work I find I have to switch to music. I find I miss too much because I do actually focus on the work and not what I'm listening to.

I'm planning to make a website about podcasts about audiobooks, created on Squarespace while sustaining myself on Blue Apron meals, then wait for the whole concept to collapse in on itself ;)

Anything more taxing than putting one foot in front of the other ruins my focus on a book; painting the house for days on end recently was also mindless enough for my brain to stay with the books. Except the last Ian Mcewan one...watching the paint dry would have been more fun :/

you fuckers just hate laughing, don't you?

It only distracts me from counting down the days until the sweet release of death...

when i need to concentrate i listen to the last podcast on the left and ignore everyone at work

I tried that but apparently the one guy's impressions (especially during the Albert Fish ones) caused some interesting facial expressions on my part and people kept stopping by to see if I was okay.

I mean he just sounds so.....gooely disturbing

Hmm, judging by your posts I know WHICH podcasts to avoid now.

You planning on getting on this side before Canada gets wise and builds its own wall?

Hey I'm multifaceted and have my intellectual moments...my problem is that then I'll say something else :p

Joe Rogan is refreshing because he's one of those social commentators, except he always keeps an open mind and has a strange potpourri of guests without any of the shrieking politics seeping into it. Breath of fresh air listening to an actual dialogue these days.

Comedy for Headcases
That's Deep Bro - Philosophy and funny people talking about it
The Hilarious World of Depression - Comedians talk about depression. All the funny people have it.
How Did This Get Made? - Comedians watch really bad movies and make them better.
You Made It Weird with Pete Holmes - I just like the theme song. :D

Knowledge/Trivia

Stuff You Should Know - The whole bloody family of shows is great
Radiolab - Science, research, and interesting perspectives.
Good Job, Brain! - I think they stopped making it, but still good fun trivia.
Sawbones: A Marital Tour of Misguided Medicine - Makes you grateful that medical science has come so far.
Adam Ruins Everything Now with more ruining!
Oh No, Ross and Carrie! Poking at fringe science, spirituality, and claims of the paranormal

Paranormal

Bizarre States - Oddities, urban myths, other weirdness
Real Ghost Stories Online - A metric f*ck ton of real ghost stories, submitted by listeners. Beware of bunk beds!
Beyond the Darkness - Formerly Darkness Radio with Dave Schrader and Tim Dennis. New name, new network!
Dark Waters Channel on YouTube - Some farking scary ass stories told by a great storyteller, Dark Waters.

If you want more about cryptids, I've got a few good ones. Also, if you want funny liberal political podcasts, I have some favorites there, too.
