Would you teach your children or lecture others to ignore scientific facts and deny inquiry? Would you vote to support blue laws, sodomy laws, or cuts to funding in the sciences? Would you petition school boards to remove any mention of evolution in textbooks and classrooms, or instate religious holiday observances? Those are the things that run-of-the-mill Christians are doing to our country.

Yahweh, Jehovah and Allah are all the same god. There followers may differ but it is the same god. He/she/it is way above petty differences in dogma. It is not Bog saying believe in Jesus or go to Hell no matter what his followers may say.

Jesus said, "If they are not against us they are for us." If you tolerate another faith they will tolerate you. You tell them they will burn in Hell if they don't follow your ways don't be surprised if you get an argument.

Norse called him Thor. Anglo-Saxons called him Thunor, Still the same god. Odin, Wodan. Still the same.

Buddha is not a god. Not even a divine being. An enlightened individual with a history quite a bit less murky than Jesus'.

Because we have not accepted Jesus like Baptist, Pentecostals and such does not mean you can lump us in with the whores and sinners. Sort of condescending to that.

I know this isn't addressed to anyone. I thought I would answer.

1.I would not teach my children to ignore scientific facts and deny inquiry. In fact I encouraged it and my kids went to science camp and took science classes. There are Christian Scientists. I do think though that the alternatives need to be mentioned. I had an 8th grade science teacher who taught evolution but mentioned alternative ideas. Not as fact, but as to what a student might come across. He encouraged us to study and make our own decisions. I am not afraid of science.

2. Blue laws - I don't think things like that need to be legislated. If you don't believe that certain things should be done on Sunday don't do them. You don't have to have a law for that. Also, what consenting adults do in the bedroom should be their own business.

3. No funding should not be cut to the sciences.

4. I do have concerns about the change in holiday Observances. I see that Christmas is now Winter Holiday and Easter is Spring Holiday. I don't have a problem with that. What I do have a problem with is denying my kids the right to say what they believe anywhere they want. There is concern about that. That censorship does happen in the name of tolerance to Christians. Not so much with other beliefs.

xfrodobagginsx, have you converted anyone?

Is there anyone here who has changed their beliefs based on this thread?

You are exactly right. We should not judge anybody by their choice of faith. I however don't believe that you can say all these different pathways lead to heaven. Clearly, I have chosen the path that states if you don't believe in Jesus and ask him into your life you are not going to go to heaven.

Now what to do with that belief. Some of the bad taste people get in their mouth about Christians is that some voice their opinion whether you want them to or not. The gift of going door to door, or street evangelism is not one that I have. These people truly feel that they need to at least expose someone to the faith. If you do believe in Jesus and what he did on the cross, you want the best outcome he promised for all people.

I do it a little different. I can't prove beyond all doubt, that there is the heaven that I speak of. Other faiths have their own beliefs about what will happen after death. Atheists of course believe we are just dead. I try to be a good example of a Christian in life because I am highly labeled as one. I'm human though and I'm sure in some situations I miss the mark. I don't put down people who choose a different path. It is important to me however, that especially my loved one's and circle of influence know about my faith so they can make their own decision. I do listen to other faiths when they want to tell me their point of view.:rose:

The thing I have never understood is the anger I witness when I tell someone my belief when they clearly have asked. If you don't believe in the heaven of Christians why the anger. It isn't going to affect you anyway. In some cases I really do think it is fear. Fear of the possibility that Christ's way is right and things might not go so well after death.

I believe that Hell is simply the absence of God's presence. If you don't want to be in God's presence anyway why the anger about getting what you asked for.

A Christian is supposed to spread the gospel but conversion is up to God.
Those who attempt to convert almost always fail in the long term. It's where many evangelists go wrong. Jesus said to be fishers of men not an asshole.

Don't remember the book or verse but the Bible does say something about Hell being removed from God or being without the Word or something like that.
Some take that to mean an actual place without God which would probably be way worse than we think and some take it to mean death is final and you get no afterlife.
Personally I think it leans more towards the former but who knows. Impossible to say so I don't worry about it too much. Do what you think is right and find out when the time comes.

:

We have archeological evidence that people have had religious beliefs for at least 30,000 years. What do you think happened to the people that died before JC .:)

I am not a Buddhist but the most Christian person I have ever known in morals, ethics, and every Christian value you can think of was a devout Sri Lankan Buddhist. I would have a pretty dim view of any god who rejected that guy. Any thoughts?

I think you are right. I don't think anyone can fully comprehend what is to come. Hell isn't a subject I have studied a lot in. This is only my opinion:

Some say God cannot be with sinners. However, Jesus was so that doesn't seem to be true. I think it is that Jesus can't live with sinners. He cannot "dwell" with them. When the time comes there will be a division. What I looked at was:

Revelation 21: 6 : He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. 8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur.”

That does get me to think of other things though. I admit, I believe that not trusting Jesus and believing what he died for our sins is the only way not to go heaven. This I get from John 3:16.

This verse makes me think about myself though. I am:
1. cowardly - yes
2. unbelieving - nope
3. the vile - not sure
4. murderer- nope
5. sexually immoral- I'm on a porn board ~ enough said
6. idolaters - don't think so
7. liar- yep

Oh and no magic arts.:rose:

This is when I wish there was a bible that was written just to answer each persons questions. We could call it the what I meant Bible:confused: (Input always welcome :D)

There you go, using science to draw a conclusion.

Keep going.

Are you saying that 15.44% didn't vote yes? Scientifically, yes it is a fact that 15.44% of those who voted, voted yes to the question. Too bad evolutionists aren't scientific and have to hide evidence that nullifies their false religious theory.

No matter how often you say that, organisms are going to continue evolving and speciating.

No magic arts! What are miracles and healing lepers and stuff anything but magic? Divine magic maybe but still magic.

Magic or sorcery is the use of rituals, symbols, actions, gestures, and language with the aim of exploiting supernatural forces.

The supernatural includes all that cannot be explained by science or the laws of nature, including things characteristic of or relating to ghosts, gods, or other types of spirits and other non-material beings, or to things beyond nature.

What's the difference between some druid in a cloak covered in stars and moons with his staff intoning in some long lost Celtic dialect. And some priest in his robes, rod and mitre intoning away in old Latin turning wine and biscuits into blood and human flesh.

How many folk did Jesus feed with a few fish and a basket of bread. Sounds magical to me. If not a bit fishy.
And the ultimate magic raising the dead. Always guaranteed to impress the masses.

Magic is about faith in symbols and the ability of positive thinking. If you think it is about ABRACADABRA, POOF you're a newt. I suggest you go tell it to the Inquisition.

If God loves why would let us suffer?

Because He's a vain, capricious, vengeful, genocidal sociopath. You only have to read Genesis to figure that one out. It only gets better (worse?) after that.

But thankfully God, like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, is a figment of the human imagination. Harmless fun for children, but destructive in the hands of grown ups, who in the year 2017, really should know better.
