I joined this site last week and I must say, it's so much fun. So, having really (ahem) 'enjoyed', so many of the stories on this site I've decided I really want to give something back so to speak. I've got a few ideas for stories but think it best to start with a stand alone story and not something that could be a series. I want to write something with a possible interracial theme (classic blonde girl / black guy) but don't want it to be clichéd, so I was wondering if all your talented people out there could help to steer me towards more stimulating and 'original' waters. All suggestions much appreciated and I really hope to have something up on the site as soon as I can. Thanks for reading my post. x

Be patient. You'll think of some thing. It will be what you want. When you write that chances are others will enjoy it too. I often think the stories that are best are those that were fun/ fulfilling to write.

First I'd say write the story you want and don't worry about what's been done before because almost everything has. But you can do something that's been done to death and still put your stamp on it.

But going against the grain of an IR story here? As someone said stay away from the "big black cock" and don't have him talk like a gang banger and oh...big one. have him be respectful towards her and not treat her like trash.

In other words if you don't make the black man out to be a dominate gang talking asshole you're actually giving him some credit and avoiding all the racist cliche's IR feeds off of.

My advice for your first story is to just write whatever you are thinking about, whatever you want to write. Do it. Get it out of your system. Don't worry about how it will be received.

I took about three hours to write and edit my first story before publishing it here. It wasn't a great story. It was kind of a rush job, to be honest. The end result showed that. But it was extremely satisfying and liberating to get it out of the way and get it done. I've written better stories since then. Getting that first story done, with all its warts, was an achievement. Writing is a process. The more you do it, the better you get at doing it. So, get started, with whatever you've got.

Second advice: Start with the O. Henry school of writing; "Write what you like. There are no other rules."

a word of caution, however. don't be surprised if you write IR and then suffer a backlash of hatemail. not saying don't write it, just be prepared for the nutters to come calling.

I guess the backlash and hatemail might be somewhat related to the author and his/her 'fanbase' (so probably no issues here) and the content of the story. For an original, non-cliché romantic story I wouldn't expect any problems, but include cheating, violence, etc., and, no matter which category you write for, you'll need to be prepared for 'negative' reactions.

I have two stories in IR, and only one weird comment which was quickly 'neutralized' by others.

pop a submission into Loving Wives with an IR theme and see how that theory holds up.

Whatever you write will suck. Few here write worth warm poop, and I'm their king. The advice you get here is useless. The odds of writing well are less than getting a job with MLB and the NFL. But most readers prefer crap.

Seeing your words exposed to the great, unwashed masses is a thrill by itself. Write something naughty. Enjoy yourself as you write it and then submit it with the knowledge that you can always delete comments you don't like or turn off all comments. You can even ask the site the delete the story, but not before you get to enjoy the thrill that your dirty words were posted online where anyone could read them. Happy writing!

I usually go with the WHO YOU GONNA BET ON? hypothesis. I get low probability outcomes. Reuben won AMERICAN IDOL and vanished. Las Vegas casinos lose 98% of the time, but they win more than gamblers.

As has been said, trust your muse, and write what you are motivated to write. I would add some technical advice to avoid clichés as much as possible, don't recite your characters' bodily measurements, and work hard to show rather than tell what they are feeling and experiencing.

And the most important advice of all: have fun writing your story.

And a big hug. Working on my trailer park noir story today. Alternating with reading Sam Spade. The style is tough. Especially my protagonist is Chinese and female. But her Pops is modelled on Cole and her Mom is a waitress in Porky's Paradice

My advice on avoiding cliches, is; don't. There's too many people trying to avoid cliches and in many, very creative ways. So, in order to be unique, embrace the cliches and go with an erotic humor, instead.

In that regard, does it have to be dripping with pratfalls? No, it can be sublime, and not ridiculous, however that's up to you.
