Let me rephrase: I don't think starting the transgender process medically to a pre-teen or very young teen isn't wrong, as I previously stated.

You've got your chickens and eggs mixed up here. A lot of trans people are suicidal because they can't pass well or can't fully transition. Without treatment, it's difficult to pass as a person of another gender. As a result, there's a lot of discrimination and it can be very difficult to find reasonable housing, work, etc. That often forces trans people into fringe work like sexy work, and that vastly increases suicidality among trans folks.

There are several models for gender identity formation, but most models show that children's gender identity is fully established between ages 3-7, so tweens/teens are perfectly capable of voicing concerns about their gender identity. If someone does voice their concerns early, hormone blockers are a good idea because you're just blocking hormones, not giving them different ones. You can stop hormone blocking at any time with no permanent effects. Giving people different hormones after puberty results in some permanent changes, so blocking as actually safer when it's an option.

What I am saying is how much do you want to give a ten year old to make life changing decisions. What if they said "I want to leave home and save the rain forest"? High suicide rates are a characteristic of all groups which don't fit the 'accepted' norms, whether mental, physical or emotional.

Ever since our culture has gone to war against "white privilege" suicide rates and drug abuse rates have gone up for the working white poor and middle class.

I went thru a professional school that was fanatic about patients coping with the real world. Get rid of their delusions and teach them to deal with what is. It was a long time ago, now patients are coddled snowflakes unable to care for themselves.

I'm blind as can be, and every day is an adventure, but my attitude is DEAL WITH IT LIL SNOWFLAKE! And I manage, too well some of the time. I fool people who know me well. But I don't drive anymore. I know my real limits.

My body was stuck on cliff face once with a bad case of "sewing machine leg" and a stripped tendon in my wrist. I hated my body but as much as I wanted to, I knew I couldn't transition into a friggin eagle and quickly realized I had to find a way up with the tools at hand.

The topic is complicated and I think it's too complex for very young children to understand. I know children are smart but there are stages of development and figuring out who you are comes later in life.

At age 12 you can face criminal charges. The law at least starts to see you as responsible for your own actions. By age 12 you can leave them at home alone. Might even be able to babysit others. You can join a paramilitary youth organization and receive basic weapons training.

A life changing decision. But perhaps not left too late. Leave it too late and the damage of confusion and conflict may be too much to over come.

Acceptance of TG by society is new and not very wide spread. Little early to be saying that beginning to make the change at an early stage is dangerous to the person. Leaving it too late as has been the usual probably leads to the most damage.
