It reminds me of a Lifetime Movie: Who is Julia? where two young women's lives are changed forever in one moment. A strikingly beautiful and wealthy woman is hit by a truck and is all smashed up and nearly killed. At nearly the same time, a very plain looking lower middle class woman simply faints and suffers brain death. The beautiful woman's brain is fine, so, doctors merely transplant her brain into plain Jane.

This surgeon thinks he can just put the whole head on a new body this year!

Canavero’s first volunteer, Valery Spiridonov, has appeared with Canavero several times to talk about his desire to undergo the operation. Spiridonov is 31 and suffers from a muscle-wasting disease called Werdnig-Hoffman’s. It leaves him wheelchair bound and dependent on others for basic needs.

There'd be some irony to be found in this if the patient lived but ended up paralyzed.

Chelsea Brown passed away this week. I remember her from Laugh-In.

I am reading a sci-fi young adult trilogy "Unwind," about how they make abortion illegal but unwanted teenagers are unwound before their 18th birthday and all the body parts and organs are transplanted to those who can afford. There is a huge supply of organs and body parts, and this new surgical medicine replaces traditional healing.

That would certainly give parents some added disciplinary leverage. "Wanna be chopped for spare parts? No? Then shut up and mow the lawn!"

That's pretty much how it is in the novel, except they don't tell the kids till the authorities come and take them to harvest camp.
