It was. The orchids have very lush, dark leaves and one has a growing stem. Nobody wanted them because they already flowered, and that is not a problem.

The cactus is a Prickly Pear and I felt bad for the poor thing. Nobody wanted it and said it was ugly. I thought it was adorable and it is very healthy!

I am a fan of unusual plants and I think cacti are cool, generally speaking. If I was going to have plants, they'd be one of my choices.

The flowers on them are pretty. Also the fuzzy ones.

Did not turn out as expected. More soupy than saucy. Beans could probably be more tender. As a first effort though, I am quite satisfied. Enough to scarf down 2 bowls and want a 3rd. Definitely nothing wrong with the taste.

Did you salt the beans when they first started cooking? I've found this doesn't allow them to soften how I'd like, so I try to add it toward the end of the cooking process.

You could continue to cook them longer. The soupy will turn more saucy as the liquid steams away and they will also become more tender.
