It means he's a sovereign willing to hear and occasionally grant petitions from his subjects.

Of course, the hypothesis that prayer changes things is non-falsifiable.

Your flowchart answers your previous question about the pointlessness of prayer.

Good things happen to good people = God's divine Grace!
Bad things happen to bad people = God's vengeance!
Bad things to good people = God's test of faith, or his unknowable mysterious ways!
Good things happen to bad people = God's mysterious ways, but the baddies will get their just desserts in the end!

That's because you don't get it, but then again, that's also nothing new.

I am a firm believer that it is not about the size, it's how you use it.

And how do you know that the intellect is not the best path to spiritual truth?

This is where I lean towards putting you on ignore. I've answered you on this so many times, and you keep coming back with it like a dumb-blind robot.

It is one element on that path.

Prayer isn't for getting stuff, it's for talking to God. As with any parent you are always free to ask but constantly asking for shit instead of just asking what's up, how ya doing, I love you, etc will almost always end in a disappointed parent and possibly some corrective action.

Believe me, I understand your turning to God in a time of distress. But I suggest that the comfort you received was from the kindness and understanding from fellow human beings, and not from some divine entity. Yes, it was faith that brought you together in the first place, but it is the community of your fellow humans that give you comfort.

You seem like a kind-hearted, well meaning person, so please accept my apology for my harsh words. But understand that by proclaiming your faith (yes, I know you're not preaching), I believe you are perpetuating a lie. A lie that has inflicted untold misery to countless people throughout history.

I wish you all the joy & happiness that life has to offer... pax vobiscum, MB

I appreciate your words! I can see where you would be frustrated thinking I am perpetuating a lie.

I have known great Christians that have given me comfort. I have also known Christians that tore my world apart. I just never let the acts of human Christians taint the message of Christ. I just keep on keeping on!!

I wish you all the joy and happiness in life too...(and peace be with you also:D )

That is not a terrorist-hostage situation, that is a tribe-of-cannibals situation.

No. Traditionally, most Kings are bad because Human nature is bad, but there were good Kings. Jesus as King will be utopia because He has perfect wisdom.

It's ok to ask for things as long as that is not your priority in everything, just to get things out of God. Our primary purpose is to worship Him and bring honor and glory to Him.

Is that for His sake or yours? I should not think God needs praise, He knows what He is, and if He wants to hear praise He has angels to sing it.

He is center of all things. Everything is for Him, but when we fulfill our created purpose, we also are fulfilled in it. God doesn't need praise, but God desires praise and created us for that purpose. Angels are only part of it. All created beings are to praise the Lord and bring glory and honor to Him. To not praise Him is to insult Him. It's peculiar to me how some people somehow think that the creator of the universe doesn't know as much as they do.

I guess God wants to show humans off to all the other Gods.

"Hey, Odin!"

"Yah, what is it Yahweh, ol' buddy ol' pal 'o mine?"

"Come look at what I got for my genesisday! It's a universe-making kit! You can do anything with it! Look at this planet here! I made these people so they have to piss and fuck with the same organ!" *snerk* :D "And they have to live with that! And I made some of them gay, you'll never believe what they do! And the straight people copy them, too!"

So phrased that sounds rather pathetic and disgusting -- but, on the other hand, what is an artist without an audience?

Does it matter what His reasons are? If He is real and what the Bible says He is then we certainly have no place questioning Him. He's far beyond our own understanding so what may seem odd or wrong to us may not be to Him.

I recall a passage in James Michener's The Source about a story from the Talmud or from rabbinical tradition. I forget the details, but a group of Jews thought of a good, morally compelling reason to disregard one of God's many written laws, and did so; and when God heard the news, He laughed and said, "My children have defeated Me!" For even He was convinced by their reasoning. Is it impious to believe this is possible?

That scenario assumes a fallible god but the Bible states that is not so. If going by the Biblical God then that story is impossible.

In the beginning was the word. And the word was God.

Wrong!

In the beginning was God. The word is a human invention trying to give a name to what is unknowable. And having named it one knows it. And therefore can write a book about it.

Bullshit! At best a collection of parables and ancient history.

The Word is Jesus. It's from the New Testament.

You forgot: 'The Word was with God' in the middle there.

All truths.

With no context and if one hasn't read the Bible then it sounds like the Genesis story. Obviously it's not tho. More like the opening line of Jesus' theme song. I like to think His theme song is the theme from Peter Gunn or maybe James Bond.
