So it came to me yesterday whist watching Songs Of Praise (a religious program on UK TV).
I've nothing against religion, I actually enjoy parts of many religions though, I don't subscribe to any particular belief as I think they all have flaws.
So I reckon if you look at all religions as if they are philosophy from the wisdom of our ancestors rather than a cult to be followed to the letter we could just about avoid a war or two!

The "Problem With Religion" is the True Believer often believes he has the authority to determine what is "in the Book" and you need to give 10% off the top, to the Church of Mine.

It would be well to observe the Laws of the Country, as God doesn't give a shit.

That's a defeatist attitude before you even start.
I think all Gods care, it's how we perceive that care. If you don't believe, then it's an empty gesture.
Therefore it's best to believe but not sell your sole to that belief.

I went to a Free Methodist church. We can have an all girls night. Hair, makeup, snacks, but no religious sermons.

Girl power!

I'm tempted, do you have a choir?
Girls night with a sing-a-long = heaven

You assume that all war is caused by religion.

Read some history.

What part did religion play in WWI, WWII, or Korean War? What about Vietnam? Was the first Iraq war a religious war? Was the second? Are we fighting ISIS from a religious POV or just because they are murdering fascists?

Was the American Revolution a religious war? Are any violent attempts by Scots in the past to be rid of English rule based on religion? Is it only because they are mostly Catholic that the Irish opposed being oppressed by the English?

The War of 1812? Any Chinese wars from antiquity until the modern times? Rome? Alexander the Great?

Just what wars do you think have been waged for religious reasons?

Crusades are the first that come to mind. I believe the Jewish people might have felt that WW2 had some issues related to religion. Obviously, not all Islamic people are involved in the current wars, but those terrorists do use religion to incite the people that are fighting.

The French War of Religion comes to mind.

What a load of waffle. You could link everyone of them to religion if you wished ffs.

Yes, you can, if you are on a rag of fingering religion. But you can link them to other factors unrelated to religion too. Where you join the "load of waffle" crowd is in insisting the link is religion in all of the wars.

Religion, greed or whatever!

And here you equate religion with greed. Yet, you say you have nothing against religion mind you.

They are all like you, trying to feel superior by belittling others. Go roll your eyes elsewhere

I don't need to try to feel superior.

I don't belittle others they belittle themselves.

This is a free & public forum.

I like art. Do you like art? I like mirrors. I especially enjoy holding them around me while I walk. And I walked past you.

Does it still feel that I am superior? Now why is that? could I just be 'normal' and you're out of wack?

Here:

I feel you. You think it's mainly the religiously related frustration, and/or the backlash of religious societies that promoted extremist thinking, greed, deviance, etc. so it ultimately provoked wars... :)

Look, no, it's not. TV has a lot of violence on it. It's how you use it.

And I'd not piss off the Hard Bull. He pays high dollars an hour.

:)D)

You may be able to link many conflicts to religion. But you won't find many directly caused by religion. Division along ethnic lines with subsequent religious differences. The Wiki link in another post points towards what are for the most part ethnic conflicts. And very minor ones at that. Except for perhaps India's partition.

But when it comes down to the big big wars of world history they are not religious wars. Hell humans will kill one another for any reason. Both sides of the US Civil War went into it singing hymns to Bog.

If the entire world was the same colour and religion, I doubt you would see any drastic drop in conflicts. The have nots would still be looking to get a piece from the haves.

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out the fact, most wars start or are fought in the name of religion. Hide this if you wish, behind the greed for oil or money. But please don't make excuses for your own beliefs, say what you think without trying to make excuses!
Love not Hate. Peace not War.

How to stop all war?

Kill everyone.

If the species survives, at some point they will go to war again and start the process over. Again.

George Orwell had it right. Wars are fought for power over the populace.
You can dress it up as fighting for an ideology, or fighting for a religion but that is never what it's really about. It is about control and power. People with no ego don't start wars.
