What we've got is from 2005... the President's 1040 form.. details to come tonight 9P

Bwhhaaaaaaaaaa

Because in 2005 the the Russians knew Trump would be president..

E

Ah, no. How on earth would they know that? You been drinking a lot tonight? Under a lot of pressure at work? Trouble with the Mrs?

Because Trump has been in cahoots or trying to get in cahoots with them for a long time. Selling out the US of A so he can build a hotel in Moscow is not good foreign policy, IMHO.

It smells like a Trumpism. Makes the media look bad on several levels.

No, it doesn't, but it does make Trump look bad on several levels, starting with the basic question of why he didn't simply publish his tax returns in the first place like every POTUS or major-party presidential candidate since Ford.

Huh?

Is that in the Constitution somewhere? :)

One, it makes the media look like it obtained it illegally. 2, no smoking gun and that makes a bunch of people look like schmos. c, another harmless distraction from all the other shit that's not happening that is supposed to be happening like the ACA and tax reform.

The more I think about it, this was another Trump media coop.

OK, that's taxes from twelve years ago. Where are the tax forms for the most recent dozen years and why won't he release them like every other presidential candidate has done for the lat twenty years? What's in them that he doesn't want to be known?

And the statement that no one cares about his taxes is a howler. Lots of people have been calling for him to release them for over a year. It's a Trump-quality lie that no wants them released--as is the claim that he can't release them while they are in audit.

Most politician tax returns are pretty simple. This is how much I stole, and this is the tax I paid on it. :)

Depends on circumstances. If you acquired it legally, there's no reason why you can't publish it.

Seriously, you should open a "bullshit store" and franchise it nationally:

26 USC § 7213(a)(3)

It shall be unlawful for any person to whom any return or return information (as defined in section 6103(b)) is disclosed in a manner unauthorized by this title thereafter willfully to print or publish in any manner not provided by law any such return or return information. Any violation of this paragraph shall be a felony punishable by a fine in any amount not exceeding $5,000, or imprisonment of not more than 5 years, or both, together with the costs of prosecution.

Now, by all means, describe the "legal acquisition" under federal law that would allow you OR ANYONE ELSE to publish private tax return information without the tax payer's permission.

Let me save you the trouble. There aren't any.

The exceptions relevant to the above phrased "any manner not provided by law" are all instances where specific legal circumstances permit disclosure of tax information, i.e. criminal prosecutions, terrorism, location of missing or exploited children, request by Congressional committees, and even government agencies like the Federal Trade Commission or the Department of Agriculture. ALL of these circumstances are detailed in 26 USC § 6103 and have NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with the manner in which the information is "acquired."

And just as a final "Oh-by-the-way," on page 3-24 of the IRS Publication 4639 "Disclosure and Privacy Law Reference Guide" section L states:

Section 6103(h)(4) does not authorize disclosure of third-party returns or return information to a plaintiff in a lawsuit brought under the FOIA. Chamberlain v. Kurtz , 589 F.2d 827, 837-38 (5th Cir.), cert. denied , 444 U.S. 842 (1979). Cf. Aloe Vera of Am., Inc. v. United States, No. CV99-1794PHXJAT, 2002 WL 1484463, at *2 (D. Ariz. May 10, 2002) (same rationale for discovery disclosures of returns and return information of unrelated third parties to plaintiffs in an unauthorized disclosure lawsuit) (subsequent history omitted). Third-party returns and return information are exempt from disclosure under exemption 3 of the FOIA, 5 U.S.C. § 552(b)(3), in conjunction with section 6103(a). Access to third-party returns and return information by a FOIA requester is available if the provisions of section 6103(c) or 6103(e) have been met, and if no FOIA exemptions apply. See generally Chapter 9 for further discussion on disclosure of returns and return information in response to a FOIA request.

Now if disclosure of third-party returns aren't permitted under the FOIA, what-in-the-fuck would make you think some asshole reporter could LEGALLY publish said returns simply because some other asshole anonymously slipped it into his mailbox?!?!?!!

In short, there is no methodology for a reporter to "legally acquire" and publish private tax return information without the taxpayer's permission. Trump's DOJ should prosecute Rachel Maddow and reporter David Johnson under 26 USC § 7213(a)(3).

He probably won't, but he should.

And you should resist every future temptation to ever comment on matters of law. Because every time you do you invariably display the legal acumen of a fucking box of rocks.

Agreed.

But let's all take a moment to recognize how obnoxious Maddow's grandstanding over nothing is.

Not really. That's a simplistic myth that simplistic people like to parrot, because, you know, simplistic people always have to have categories of other people to demonize to make them feel superior.

I haven't seen in of her performance about it, but I'll bet it was deflating for her.

She probably should have smelled the "Donald leaked that particular return himself" rat and adjusted her coverage of it accordingly.

What? :)

So every politician is on the up & up except Trump. Got it. :)

There was a timer counting down to the segment. It was very Capone's vault.

I'm not one to throw around "this is why Trump won," but...this shit is why Trump won.

Well, this and Hillary.

nobody Gives A Shit About President (or Candidate) Trump's Taxes Moron. Nobody Cared During The Campaign And Nobody Cares Now. Buy A Freaking Life Already

Do you think that putting it in large type will make anyone, including you, believe such a gigantic lie? Don't you feel like an idiot to peddle such obvious tripe? You should.

Not just Maddow. MSNBC and most of the rest of the American media really are a joke. They shit the bed before the election, never took accountability, tripped over their dicks to congratulate themselves for kind of starting to do their actual freaking jobs, and have proceeded to gleefully seize every opportunity to go back to being giddy morons since, officially extinguishing their last flames of credibility and making it even more difficult for Americans to sniff out the truth.

Fuck 'em all.

No, but you claimed every politician wasn't. You can't tell the difference in what you claimed? Not too bright, are you?

Well, this and Hillary.

Then that was pretty dumb. She should have read it and figured out how best to use it before going public with it.

President Trump's fantasy world is so much more interesting than the dull reality of his plain old tax returns.

I want a new chapter in his "Obamacare is bad" narrative. I think it's going to be changing soon.

In the meantime, millions of people will lose their health insurance and many will die.

But the ratings are great!

News networks are so short sighted.

Wait till they realize dead people don't watch TV.

I hope this post is one day a footnote in a history book. It's accurate enough.

"So, children, can anyone tell me about the election of 2016?"

"Ummm...the American media shit the bed?"

"Very good, Johnny. You will make our district proud in the games."
