A selective need for evidence

On Saturday, Donald Trump released a series of tweets in which he alleged that Barack Obama had ordered "wiretapping" at his New York Trump Tower campaign headquarters.
The Washington Post news alert read, "Trump, citing no evidence, accuses Obama of 'Nixon/Watergate' plot to wiretap Trump Tower before the election," and the New York Times headline likewise stated, "Trump, Offering No Evidence, Says Obama Tapped His Phones." CNN did the least to hide its bias, running the headline, "Trump's baseless wiretap claim."
For months now Democrats and the media have continuously promoted allegations of supposed collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, and to date no actual evidence of any collaboration has ever been presented. Yet the mainstream media has the gall to call out Trump for making an accusation without evidence. Kettle meet pot.

For the MSM to declare Trump's claims as being "baseless" is a disingenuously dismissive statement, for there does appear to be some merit to his accusation. Andrew McCarthy of National Review notes that the Obama Justice Department in June 2016 sought to convert an FBI investigation into Trump associates, which had turned up nothing criminal, into a national-security investigation under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). While an initial request was turned down by the FISA court, it appears that other requests were made and eventually in October some surveillance was granted. The extent of surveillance is unknown, as that information is classified.
(There were similar reports in the NYT and WaPo.)
The point here is that Trump's accusation merits investigation, and the media's blatant hypocrisy in demanding evidence from Trump while at the same time willingly pushing unverifiable allegations of its own smacks of partisan bias. Objectivity is fast becoming a distant memory.

We'll get on that as soon as we figure out what happened on 9/11 with Building 7.

The only morons dumb enough to still support #45 live here on the Lit. Even his "people" are embarrassed to speak for him and back his words.

I agree. The number of Trump apologists on lit is dropping like the barometer during a hurricane alert.

This might just be Trump bluster but after wikilinks released all the friends and foes that were tapped ( anyone remember Angela Merkel of our ally Germany). I don't just dismiss this idea as foolishly impossible. More evidence is needed,

I love the way that Trump turns the tables and puts the media and their Democrat allies on defense.

Accuse me without any evidence?

J'accuse!

All of the people who are denying this have either no access to the process or, like Clapper and Obama, are known liars.

The CIA sent some of the results of their Trump wiretaps to the White House.

Obama lowered their classification level and made them available to the other intelligence agencies and this, then, is the source of all these leaks; it is an asymmetrical war/coup against a freely elected President of the United States. This is bordering on sedition/treason.

actually he said something interesting....that was (of course) overlooked

He actually DENIED there was a FISA order....and the FLN (fake lying news) screamed about it and said CASE CLOSED

But he added....."That I had access to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

That is the key.....he knew what would get play, BUT he gave himself an out

Signed, James Rosen etc

Judge Chamberlain Haller: busybody?
busybody: Yes, sir?
Judge Chamberlain Haller: That is a lucid, intelligent, well thought-out objection.
busybody: Thank you, Your Honor.

Keep up the lying if it makes you fee good because that is not what happened.

The Obama administration lowered the classification on the Russian evidence that had been gathered and disbursed it to as many people as they could so Trump couldn't destroy it. They wanted to make sure the information would be available on the record and in as many places as possible.

If, during the investigation of Trump's collusion with Russia there were wiretaps it would have been on the Russians with Trump getting caught as a result.

Further, as shown in a different thread, there was/is an investigation into the Trump server which connected to Alfa Bank in Russia, and only Alfa Bank in Russia, with no other access anywhere else. If that doesn't scream interesting, nothing does.

I never knew you were a Russian troll but thanks for the keywords.

Has any investigation produced a single thing?

No evidence, but like Dan Rather, all we hear is, we don't need it, we know the story is true.

You can assign any motivation you want to it, but it is not a lie if Obama did exactly what I said he did. That is objective. You just proved that I am telling the truth.

Your evaluation (and the cover story offered by those who enabled the leakers) and my evaluation are subjective and to make each one of us fee [sic] better about, in your case, the purity of the Obama Administration and in my case, the preservation of what is left of the Republic. Obama and Jarrett are trying to bring it down:

You might want to read the EO that lowered those barriers. You're delusional if you think it was restricted solely to Russian intelligence.

Further, why would "no evidence" require wide spread dissemination? I can only think of one reason, so that the allegations were certain to make it into the hands of political allies that would ensure they became public, a felony by the way. As a matter of fact their statements regarding their reasoning confirms that notion.

The Republicans could only undermine Obama rhetorically, but the Democrats are proving, once again, that they can use government to do it.

What everyone should be concerned about is the base politicization of the FBI, CIA, and NSA and I do mean everyone. That migration is a threat to the nation regardless of political leanings.

We knew that the permanent fix was in when not one liberal on Lit was alarmed about the politicization of the IRS because they knew it would never be used upon them, the Unions, or their PACs...

:(

The Republicans may temporarily hold two branches of government, but the SocProgs know they hold the press, the bureaucracy and most of the judiciary.

"We" knew something that never happened. You're really stepping up your game lately. Congrats?

Which indicates the intel was gathered without a warrant and under the existing authority of EO 12333, politically motivated details of which were then feloniously unmasked and leaked to the press and other individuals in the Obama administration to use against the Trump candidacy.

Among other things, they worry now about the loss of control in the DOJ of enforcement actions, which Obama was using to fund a plethora of left-wing organizations.

Here's your evidence:

General Flynn got wire tapped while working at the Trump Tower.

It definitely happened then Obama unmasked Flynn's identity.

Then released the info to the media.

Do your homework, Dopey.

What was "used against the Trump candidacy?"

There's a disconnect between the assurances that Trump is completely innocent and the insistence that Obama had all kinds of damaging intelligence on Trump, which he then inexplicably decided to send to presidential heaven to join Nixon's 18-minute gap.
