Justice League: The New Wave (IC)

Braggock found the school bus surrounded by some kind of ninja guys, and a big mutant dude on super roids. There were no cops responding. The streets were abandoned and fires and wreckage were everywhere under the eerie dark and cloudless sky. Children cried inside the bus. Children were in danger.

He sent fire first, to announce his arrival. Flames in the form of giant spectral wolves that blasted some of the ninja guys away from the bus. They howled and mauled the assassins, devouring their clothing and burning their flesh.

The other dark soldiers made no effort to aid their companions, they merely hurled shuriken into the shadows, all missing the towering form who stood in the alleyway. The mutant roid guy stood sniffing the air, trying to zero in on a scent.

Braggock stepped out of the darkness and let his banked fires flare, surrounding his black shape in an orange aura of heat. For a split second, everything was still, as the enemy regarded him in startlement. Then the roid rager attacked with a roar.

Sharp metal objects hurtled at Braggock, some of them melting into slag before even reaching him, the rest clattering away harmlessly. The roid monster however, was not so easily deterred. He crashed into Braggock, both of the rocking back to shatter a brick wall behind them. Braggock grappled with the beast, locking his hands around wrists as thick as his own.

Planting his feet, Braggock pushed off the cratored brick wall, moving one step forward, pushing the mutant creature back a step. Grunting with effort, Braggock gave the mutant a shove, then brought his right fist around and clouted him in the face with a muted crunch. The guy just rolled with the punch and turned back to grin through bloody teeth at Braggock. Then the fight began in earnest.

Both giants traded blows in turn, rights and lefts, blocking and counter punching, incredibly powerful blows, rocking the street with the sound of thunder, neither giving an inch. Braggock wasn't causing much damage with his punches, but the mutant thing was burning himself with every strike.

Meanwhile, in the school bus, the bus driver was staring fearfully at a streetlight, which was blinking rapidly in what seemed to be some kind of pattern. One of the children, Sammie, moved up and stared at the light. "Mr. Simmons? That light is blinked Morse code."

Charlie Simmons stared down at the child. "How do you know that, Sammie?"

"Boy scouts, sir. Do you want to know what it says?"

"Yes, Sammie, that would be nice."

Braggock was not prepared for the behemoth to bodily pick him up and throw him, but he was only thrown across the street, to crash through the stainless steel security door of a pawn shop. The door slowed his momentum.

Metal shrieked as Braggock crawled out of the mangled door. He was just getting to his feet, when the monster picked him up by the neck and slammed him down into the pavement, through the surface layer of concrete. Then tremendous punches and stomps began driving him deeper into the street.

It was increasingly clear that when it came to strength, Braggock was beaten. But it was also clear that his own incredibly durable substance was not being in any way severely harmed by the roid monster. Thus it was a kind of standoff.

Concentrating for a second, Braggock released some of the fire inside his core. A blast wave of heat and concussive force hurled the roid monster off of him and through the air to knock over a steel street lamp.

Braggock climbed out of his hole in the ground and walked over to his enemy, who was rolling on the ground, putting out the flames. He bent down and with both hands, picked up the twisted shaft of the street lamp. The steel pole began to glow cherry red with heat, Braggock lifted it over his head and brought it crashing down onto the roid monster, over and over and over again.

The ninja guys had given up throwing and shooting things at him, seeing as how most of their weapons either melted, or ricocheted off of his rocky crust. Why they thought it a good idea to attack him with swords, he would never know, but they mobbed him, dozens attacked him at once. Leaving the bus unattended...

The lights told them to wait for a distraction that drew the ninja's off, then get off the bus and follow the lights. Charlie Simmons got the eight kids off the bus in near silence, crouched low, and herded them after the lights...street lights...crossing signs...security lamps...all leading them to an abandoned parking complex.

There were homeless people there. Men and women, all of them wearing worn and damaged cast-offs, but clean and well fed for all that. They were clear eyed and kind, wrapping the kids in blankets and leading them to barrel fires. Charlie asked if there was anyone in charge he could talk to. He was introduced to a man called Dash. Dash reassured him that everything was just fine, they were safe.

"If that big guys with the glowing eyes was your friend, he's getting his butt kicked." Charlie said in concern.

"Oh no. Braggock is just buying time for you all to get away. The fight will be over now. Just relax, get some food, or take a nap."

The bus was empty. Braggock used it to take out the ninja's, shoulder checking it hard enough to rock it onto it's side, then sending it sliding into them like a massively over sized and badly shaped bowling ball into pins. He still held the flaming lamp pole, which he used to knock down the few still standing. Then he hurled it like a spear and stuck the roid monster to the street like a beetle in a display case. He walked over and stood over the thing, as it tried to grip the steel shaft through it's middle with blackened, charred hands.

Braggock touched the steel shaft and closed his eyes. All of the fires in the surrounding area snuffed out, one by one. For a second, the temperature dropped rapidly. Then Braggock opened his eyes.

The steel pole evaporated. The roid monster and the ninja's burned to ashes instantly, along with all the trash in the street. The pavement melted and ran like rivers of tar, the glass all along the street shattered, metal puddled. It was like the place had turned into the surface of the sun...

Then it all cooled, rapidly. The street turned into a solid, if rippled surface, the metal frozen lakes of mirror brightness, the ashes and dust of bodies and trash merging into a kind of smokey cloud. Braggock stood alone, glowing with orange light.

Over the next few minutes, the temperature returned to normal. Braggock banked his fires and slowly cooled his surface enough to avoid burning or melting anything that he touched. He looked around and then picked a direction. There were more people to save in the neighborhood. He also needed to find a new hoodie, since he'd burned through his clothes again. He had really liked that Hoodie. It had superman's symbol on it. He loved superman. The man of steel. Just like his dad.

Braggock kept walking.

Chase didn't have much of a conventional sense of humor to speak of. But she understood the concept of wit.

"Energize."

And blue-green light flashed around Thea...

...her feline senses would spin for a moment, burying the needle on her equilibrium, her enhanced kinesthetics going six ways from Sunday...

...and then she was back, and the world was under her feet, and she was in the NJLHQ meeting room, with the great dome overhead and the Round Table before her...

Oh that feeling just sucked. She wanted to spew, but she would NOT spew on her first trip to the new job. No, nope. But it was a close thing. Thea refused to be the kid that got sick on the first day of school. Nope nope.

She looked about hoping that there weren't too many team mates here already to see this.

"Oye, slow down, ultra," Lorena hurried to catch up, looking perturbed.

She fell into step beside Rebel, holding out her arms on either side of herself to keep her balance. "I've been studying in Atlantis for months and months, I'm still trying to get my land-legs back. No idea why Aquaman thought I'd be good for this-- but a Justice League Alert on my first day? ¡Ay!"

Having another newb around felt good. That way Jo wouldn't look too bad. And with Lorena being especially troubled getting her feet under her it would only be Jo's mouth that would get her in trouble. Oh man, she was going to make Aquachick look good, no doubt.

She slowed down to let Lor catch up and offered her an arm to help her get her land legs back. "Yeah, sorry Lor, I got first day jitters too. Let's just hope enough of th more experienced folk get here soon ta help. I'd hate fer us ta be th first contact with somethin badass. We'd make such a good example wouldn't we?"

Velocity was out on the Salt flats training as usual. Today she had decided to try and just go for all out speed. It had been awhile since she had cut loose and pushed herself to her limits, well not since the rescue of those civilians, and she wanted to see if her training was paying off.

She started slowly, going for an easy jog at Mach-1 in a large circle around the edge of the salt pans and then she gradually sped up. She hit Mach-2, then 3 and still felt great. At 5 she could feel herself start to hit a wall and just after 6 she had to ease back.

So 6 was her limit for now but that was way faster than her top speed before. Indeed she used to be worried about breaking the sound barrier and cruising at Mach-3. Now she knew how to set up a counter vibration so she could break the sound barrier in urban areas and could happily cruise at or near Mach-5. Who knew how fast she could get?

Just as she was taking on some energy drink her new watch started blaring at her. Keying it she answered.

"Velocity here, I will be back at HQ in less than 20 seconds."

Smiling she oriented herself and took off. 18 seconds later she appeared behind a seat in the situation room in the HQ building.

"Hey guys, did I miss anything?"

Latching onto Rebel's arm, grateful for her considerable strength, Lorena steadied herself for a moment and then continued with improved grace.

"Ah, don't let my self-doubt get to you," she tried to reassure the backwoods bad-ass. "I heard you went toe-to-toe with Superboy, and I've trained against him, he's tough!"

"Besides, only a few weeks ago, they were saying the ragtag benchwarmers of The NJL didn't look like much compared to the originals, and then they went and saved the world! Maybe we're right where we need to be, ultra. The Island of Misfit Toys."

"JUSTICE LEAGUE ALERT! JUSTICE LEAGUE ALERT!"

If any Leaguers hadn't deigned to grab a watch after all, one would only hope they would be alerted to the disaster by other means.

"JUSTICE LEAGUE ALERT! REPORT TO HEADQUARTERS IMMEDIATELY FOR BRIEFING AND DISPATCH!"

"PRIORITY ALPHA!"

Damian had taken one of the Luthor's watches. However instead of wearing it he placed it somewhere else... a special warehouse in Hell's kitchen. That way if Luthor was able to track it, the manor was safe. He monitored the frequency the NJL used and heard the alert come in. Even if he hadn't, he knew what was going on since he was already seeing it on the computers in the cave. "This is Nightwing. What's going on?" he asked as he leaned back in the chair.

Giving Rose's hand a gentle squeeze of her own she smiled. "Me as well." She almost kissed Rose again. But stopped when she saw The Rider walk around a corner and approach them. For once she didn't have a helmet on, but she was wearing the weird metal Armor of War.

As she approached the Duo, Danni lifted an eyebrow, her eyes glowing from within an easy sign that The Rider was there as well. She didn't say anything, she just looked at Rose and gave a soft nod, before walking past them and into the room.

That... gave Rose pause.

"Uh, hey, Danni. Hey, The Rider."

She glanced bewilderedly at Karan before they entered the meeting room.

I mean, what do you say when The Spectre of Vengeance gives you a polite, wordless greeting? It was nice, that was for sure, to know she was on Ketch's good side, but-- what did that mean?

They walked in just in time to see Wildcat appear in a burst of blue-green light, looking a little unsteady for a moment.

Hotline, Raven, Renegade, Velocity, and G.R.I.D. had already arrived, all in varying states of disjointedness or jubilation, and of course The Rider had been directly ahead of them as they'd walked into the room.

Ruby visibly lit up as Wildcat landed on her feet, so to speak, but played it off easily enough.

"Mornin', everyone. Superhero's work is never done, hey?"

Velocity had run here without getting the rundown from Chase or Natasha, but Rose smiled at her easily, glad to see she'd made herself at home after Rose had helped her tour the place. "Your guess is as good as mine. Apparently there's a Independence Day situation over Seattle? Someone should tell them they've got their holidays mixed up."

Signal.

"Incursion over Seattle," Chase replied, crisply, a little bit grateful to be finally dealing with a professional, even though this one did remind her of her... problematic childhood. "Possibly extraterrestrial in origin. Evident hostility. Report to HQ so that we can dispatch The New League as a unit."

She paused. "I don't have a teleport lock on you. That's odd. How far are you from headquarters?"

"No I won't be able to join the team for this one. Something has come up that requires my attention." he told her. It was true... from a certain point of view.
"However I will be sending someone to replace me. Just send me the coordinates of where you're sending the team." he told her.

Chase frowned.

So much for a professional. Subbing out? Ugh, superheroes.

She supposed that Batman had had a reputation for playing fast and it loose when it came to teamwork, even with the original Justice League. And it appeared that The Dark Knight's squires were following in those footsteps a little closely for comfort.

"Fine, but I'm noting this irregularity in my mission report to The DEO. We're having the team form up at The Space Needle Loop, a park and approach road near The Space Needle itself. Make sure that your proxy is able to get there in minutes, my briefing for the assembled team will be short as The Pentagon is treating this as a potential DEFCON 1 scenario and defusing it is a matter of absolute urgency."

Trouble brews.

"Mornin', everyone. Superhero's work is never done, hey?"

Watching as everyone walked/teleported/dimensional travels in Renegade looked at Rose. The cheery attitude, the hand holding with Wondergirl. "You two finally knocking boots?” she asked bluntly. She was being paid to help, not be polite. Beside putting those two off guard was a good thing. Just in case she needed to send a bullet through one of them.

And that caused Raven to look up, her eyes shadowed by something. Something deep and depressing whatever it was. Fingers tightened around the silver thing she held, tightened enough to make a drop of blood to drip from her hand. “Be silent!” she snarled, her gaze snapping to Renegade.

“Or what?” Renegade replied, arching an eyebrow as she looked at Raven’s fury. “You'll Kill me? Do me a favor..”

“Azarath... Metrion... ZINTHOS!!” Raven snapped, purple energy snapping out to blow Renegade through several walls. “They get what everyone gets. One Life. Let them be happy and have that life. For as long as they can.” She was so angry her eyes were glowing and her body was shaking. But thankfully her clothing hadn’t started to lose their color and turn white. Yet.

A blink and Karan was in front of Raven, blocking Renegade from her view. “It’s alright. Renegade is just.. a bitch.”

“Yes she is,” Raven replied, moving back into her corner of the room as shadows enveloped her. And she stayed there, but darkness stared out from that pit of night.

Standing back up, Renegade walked back, brushing debris from her shoulders. “Damned Drama queen.” She muttered under her breath.

Xarathos/Danni watched the instantaneous exchange with a raised eyebrow. Shaking as the blood droplet splattered and smeared on the tile floor. “Vengeance…” she whispered.

"Yeah, I guess Stooperboy was kinda tough, but I hadn't even really revved up before Chase broke us up." Jo said with a bit of an unattractive expression on her face. It was going to take a long time till she could forgive that guy.

Jo actually laughed as they rounded the corner into the main meeting area. Ultra. That word brought a bit of light back to Jo. She had always just called her powers Ultra, no idea why. Just like wearing the new green top felt right. Like old history. "Ya know, ya might just be right Lor', we might just be in th right place." Then she saw those in the team that had beaten them there. She almost choked at the exchange she had just witnessed. "Ya know Lor, I'm not sure the grown up table is for me."

Thea had rounded the corner from the other side of the new kids and jumped like a scalded cat at the childish outburst. She landed on all fours with fur puffed out. "Fer the love a fuck can we try ta act like fuckin adults?" she growled, "Save that shit fer the bad guys and not fer each other till the world's NOT goin ta hell in a handbasket? Maybe just fuckin once? Or just go on ta hell and kill each other and save the bad guys the fuckin time..."

Connor had been practicing with a few of his newer arrows, getting the feel for the way they flew through the air, how the weight's of the new heads pulled them off balance, even the way they drew out of the quiver. All of these things effected his aim and he had to be perfect.

Hitting the button on the side he tried to hide his excitement as he answered.

"Green Arrow here. What is the situation?"

He was already gathering up his arrows and sprinting to his room to change into his uniform.

Agent Chase came back almost immediately.

"Arrow. How soon can you be prepped for teleport? We have a situation, Ultimate Code Red, over Seattle. We're assembling The New League at headquarters for a-- mostly-- cohesive dispatch. The situation is dire. Get your game face on."

Rule of... Two?

"Yeah, I guess Stooperboy was kinda tough, but I hadn't even really revved up before Chase broke us up." Jo said with a bit of an unattractive expression on her face. It was going to take a long time till she could forgive that guy.

"Whoa," Aquagirl smirked slowly. "You're not even bragging. You are bad-ass!"

Jo actually laughed as they rounded the corner into the main meeting area. Ultra. That word brought a bit of light back to Jo. She had always just called her powers Ultra, no idea why. Just like wearing the new green top felt right. Like old history.

She was being paid to help, not be polite. Beside putting those two off guard was a good thing. Just in case she needed to send a bullet through one of them.

Martian Manhuntress balked, hard, her eyes widening as she laughed an incredible, incredulous laugh. "...knocking... knocking boots? What are we, Martin Lawrence now? I... what?"

And that caused Raven to look up, her eyes shadowed by something. Something deep and depressing whatever it was. Fingers tightened around the silver thing she held, tightened enough to make a drop of blood to drip from her hand. “Be silent!” she snarled, her gaze snapping to Renegade.

Ruby stared at Raven, her eyes wide, her grip on the edge of The Round Table just shy of white-knuckle tight. Rae always kept her emotions bottled. Seeing her like this, a cannon just waiting to be loosed-- it was-- scary. "Oh... shit."

“Or what?” Renegade replied, arching an eyebrow as she looked at Raven’s fury. “You'll Kill me? Do me a favor..”

"Raven, that's really not--" Rose attempted--

"--bit too late for that, mate," Ruby winced.

“Azarath... Metrion... ZINTHOS!!” Raven snapped, purple energy snapping out to blow Renegade through several walls.

"Ya know, ya might just be right Lor', we might just be in th right place." Then she saw those in the team that had beaten them there. She almost choked at the exchange she had just witnessed. "Ya know Lor, I'm not sure the grown up table is for me."

Ojo!" Lorena frowned, backing up a step at what she saw-- "Mañé..."

Renegade is just.. a bitch.”

Rose had flinched visibly when Raven had cut loose, but she relaxed visibly when Karan stepped in. Oh, thank-- Eria?

“Yes she is,” Raven replied, moving back into her corner of the room as shadows enveloped her. And she stayed there, but darkness stared out from that pit of night.

Standing back up, Renegade walked back, brushing debris from her shoulders. “Damned Drama queen.” She muttered under her breath.

"Funny how there wasn't any drama until you started the drama," Rose pointed out, eyes narrowing tightly.

Xarathos/Danni watched the instantaneous exchange with a raised eyebrow. Shaking as the blood droplet splattered and smeared on the tile floor. “Vengeance…” she whispered.

"Easy, Rider," Ruby murmured to Danni, pun maybe/maybe not intended. "I don't know if I have another power-armored paladin on Line 1. Be cool."

"It's okay, Wildcat, it's okay," Rose held out a hand in a belaying gesture to Thea, obviously sad and frustrated, but shelving her own dismay. "You and Raven weren't here for it but blowing holes in the meeting room wall is actually kind of a tradition... now."

"At least the sprinklers didn't go off this time," Ruby drawled sardonically.

...thankfully, the multidroids had already responded, and, just like last time, were swiftly repairing the hole in the wall as though it had never been. Renegade was fortunate to have recovered quickly enough that she could step back through while there was a hole there. If she'd taken longer to heal then she'd've had to go around and back out to the hallway.

GRID looked around the table at the 'spirited' discourse going on an mused to Lysl, "I I thought my students were rowdy."

As Connor ran into his room and threw his gear onto his bed he keyed his watch again.

"Give me one minute to get dressed appropriately Agent Chase and I will be good to go."

Connor had always had a good memory and once introduced to someone could recognize their voices again. It helped out a lot at parties and was especially helpful in a monastery where a lot of the monks looked similar.

He pulled on the new costume he had made. It looked very similar to his dads but was made of a body hugging Kevlar weave that would stop most projectiles up to automatic fire, and sword blades. Strapping on a new fully equipped quiver and a bow he smiled and keyed the watch once more.

"Green Arrow to Agent Chase, teleport away, but if you teleport anything with me and mix up my DNA, believe me I am coming after you first," he chuckled.

No Flies on Him, Mate.

"Green Arrow to Agent Chase, teleport away, but if you teleport anything with me and mix up my DNA, believe me I am coming after you first," he chuckled.

"Natasha Irons assures me that the molecular targeting is second-to-none, and any additional mass added before the full transit is complete will simply skew your landing coordinates without merging your mass with theirs. She promises that the 'Jeff Goldblum Effect' is a zero factor, whatever that means."

Green-blue light flashed like a backdraft of flame, Arrow's finely trained senses and Zen awareness would get hauled topsy-turvy for an instant...

...and then he would find himself in the meeting room, the air thick with drama.

Beast Boy responding

"JUSTICE LEAGUE ALERT! JUSTICE LEAGUE ALERT!"

Logan stepped from the shower as the call came through. He dried himself as fast as possible and grabbed the watch. Activating the comm function, he made certain that the towel was wrapped securely around his waist.

"Garfield here. Give two minutes to get dressed."

He paused and wondered if that was TMI.

"I will report back for teleportation, I doubt that I can make it over to HQ in a fast enough time."

He didn't wait for confirmation, he closed the line and headed for his closet, it took him 130 seconds to get into underwear and his suit, he was still busy pulling on his gloves when he activated his watch again.

"Garfield, I'm ready."

"Garfield here. Give two minutes to get dressed."

Chase reflected that if her father had stopwatched her in at suiting up in anything less than ten seconds she would have had to run laps and climb the rock wall until she dropped.

But then again, what had all that preparation gotten him?

Still. Some middle ground would not go amiss. These amateurs could benefit from readiness drills.

"That's sufficient for now. Your maximum speed, please, Beast Boy."

"Ten seconds slow, ironically, but copy that. Telemolecular targeting locked."

She almost considered asking him to turn into a fly so she could beam him onto Connor Hawke's shoulder just to fuck with The Arrow about his Jeff Goldblum concerns-- Natasha had explained the joke in between dispatches.

Almost.

But didn't.

"Matter transit initiated."

And then there came the blue-green flame.

And Beast Boy stood amongst the nascent, makeshift pantheon that was The New Justice League.

Garfield felt like his whole body were torn apart, not in a painful way, just that his molecules fell apart.

Then the universe went bottoms-up and made a topsy turvey bottle of Jack Daniels in ten seconds turn and suddenly it clicked back into position.

It was enough to make you feel sick to the pit of your stomach and if you had nothing to eat yet, dry heaves would be it.

But like luck would have it, Chase had 'ported him straight into the conference room. So he gave a soft choking cough and swallowed. Then picked up on the tension in the room.

"Surprise!!"

He threw open his arms like a magician who had just performed a big Tadaa! moment and who knew that the trick was good.

"Looking good ladies and gentlepeople, the fun has arrived, so put away your scowl, put on your cowl and let's get this...ehrm...briefing under way."

He plopped down in a chair and propped his feet on the table, fastening his left glove.

And she led Gar to the medical facility... Serling wasn't around, Gar would probably be bummed about that, but Kaldur was still there floating upside-down in a cylinder that resembled a Bacta tank.

He smiled wearily at the sight of Garfield Logan.

"Beast Boy. It is good to see you!"

"I'll let you two catch up," Nat smiled softly, tapping the edge of her tablet with the stylus. "I've got a date with Fabrication." Then she paused and took a picture of Gar with the tablet's digital camera and rangefinder-- it instantly calculated his measurements and fed them to her design software and the 3-D printer in her lab. "Try not to wear him out too much, okay Double-B?"

And then she headed out.

Even in an invalid state, bobbing upside-down in therapeutic fluids and salt water, Kaldur exuded a quiet strength and focus like no other. "What can I do for you, Garfield?"

The fact that Docter Serling wasn't there didn't bother Garfield, in fact he was glad for it. He needed alone time with Kaldur, because what he had to ask and say was nothing that he wanted to share with anybody else but Kaldur.

He stared for a moment at Kaldur who floated in the tank, felt that constriction in his chest and unconsciously touched THAT zone just underneath his collarbones. He took a deep breath and then his grin returned, "They really did a number on you man. I am REALLY glad to see you."

He walked closer to the tank and leaned his forehead against it, looking into Kaldur's eyes, OK so he had to hunch something fierce, but this is what he wanted. Eye-to-eye.

"I have just been invited to join the New Justice League. I get told that you endorsed me. Is this so?"

OK so it was a strange thing to ask the man whose autograph you want to adorn your wall on a lab coat, or wait...why did he just think that? Yes in fact he had just thought that. But he also needed to know.

Renegade

Sitting there, her heals propped up on the table, Renegade debated stabbing The Rider with the blunt end of a cigar, and seeing if she could rile Martian Maiden a little more. But one look over in that direction deemed the action not plausible, since the hell bitch wasn’t in a flame-on mood apparently.

Looking over at the two girls she imagined them writhing and naked on the floor, each of them begging for more. Yeah, read my thoughts and I’ll mentally screw you over. Didn’t hurt that Renegade was thinking about the ménage à trois as a man.

Green Arrow popped back into existence and looked around. Well that would take some getting used to. Still he had to admit it was about the same type of ride as going through Hell, just without all the pretty scenery. Having done that it was probably the only thing helping him keep his breakfast in his stomach.

As for his surroundings it seemed he was in the meeting room, and it looked like the gang was all here along with some faces he didn't recognize. The one thing he did was the massive hole in the wall that was being repaired by droids and of course the tension.

Judging by everyone's postures it seemed Renegade was on the out's with almost everyone, Danni was pissed but not Rider pissed yet, Raven was hiding in the Shadows but from the looks being thrown her way she must have done something. The rest were in various stages of shock ranging from mild in the case of Velocity and Garfield, up to stressed like Martian Manhuntress and Wondergirl.

Wondering if this was how every meeting was he walked up to the table and sat across from Danni, putting himself in her line of sight and giving her a very fleeting smile before becoming professional again. It was to let her know he had her back but for know he was acting professional about things.

He didn't say a word but just waited to find out why he had been called and what they were going to do. He was not a leader and at the moment had no plans to be. Let someone else take that hassle, he was happy just to do his part without the hassle of leading others.
