Do You Learn Anything At Lit?

In 10 years I cant name one helpful writing tip I've acquired from any LIT VIP. Yet I learn plenty from published fiction and first rate movies.

Most LIT VIPs still wear what was popular 60 years ago.

Hard to tell if Doooly is PILETTE, TEX MEX, or LOVECRAP.

Lots of tips on writing on LIT, as opposed to on writing. A few on writing and when I was starting some of those articles were helpful. Some still are. Published fiction all the time coz I'm always looking for ideas. Movie s, not really.

Maybe because I'm less experienced, or because English is not my native language, but I get useful tips here and there. It's also good to have a writer's community to talk to if you are uncertain in something.

I would say that I learn 95% of things about writing from reading other books or watching movies, noting everything from narrations structure to plot twists and tropes.
I still gain 5% from Lit's discussion topics, but those are still useful 5%.

I learn how to write better by posting stories. The improvements aren't consistent. I can still write stinkers.

I learn a massive amount of useful/useless information from threads here and on the General Board.

Unfortunately I also learn that the world (and Literotica) has no shortage of assholes.

To compensate for the assholes I have made friends here.

I've learned a lot from readers who contact me. Not writing tips per se; mostly how my stories affect people and how to intensify that.

AH is good for learning about the mechanics of Literotica, but it hasn't improved my writing.

JBJ, I know you've learned things here at Lit. After reading part of a story you posted on the forum, I told you not to start every line with the same word. You even thanked me for pointing that out.

I'm here to explore how readers respond. 12 hours after publishing my first story I learned that what I wrote appealed to most people. It wasn't massive 5 star orgasmic, but had enough solid erotic elements to get a few faves and an above-average rating.

Two comments suggested that it was too short, one even asked for chapters. That's encouraging, but also tells me that there wasn't enough character development. 4.5K words could have easily been stretched to 10K or more on that particular storyline.

I feel that my biggest weaknesses are dialogue / voice and character arc. That's probably what will move the ratings. That plus putting in vote / feedback beg at the end.

VIPs are cool, it's nice to share about the writing part, and I'm open to any suggestions. But I don't expect them because that's an editor's job and nobody here is getting paid for that. Bottom line, I'm grateful I have a place to post and get feedback for free.

The best editors on planet Earth are movie screen writers. 99% of their time they transform print garbage into box office hits. I'm serious. Play writers not so much, because theyre job is to make dialogue loud and clear across an auditorium.

Of course you're just making that up. You have no experience with any variety of real editor.

What I've learned at Lit. is that many, certainly including you, are just making it all up and are full of hot gas (and of themselves).
