If you like cheesy acting, ridiculous dialogue, inaccurate details and gratuitous guts and gore, this movie might be for you. Stealing scenarios from Saving Private Ryan was a nice touch. It hit rock bottom when a Japanese soldier tossed a grenade and a GI swatted it away in mid-air.

There are few things worse than a fact based movie disrespecting a true hero with this kind of monkey puke.

Zero fucking stars.

Two hours I'll never get back.

As you are Lit's resident expert ball sucker, we'll take your word for it.

I heard Matt Damon, China's new white hope, has released another crap pile.

I didn't think it was bad movie at all. It wasn't the best war movie either though. Idk if it stole anything from saving private ryan on purpose. If it did that's because those things were happening throughout the entire war. If that's the case then every movie about WW2 has stolen something from another film. The list would be a long one and damn near every film is guilty of it. Bottom line the ppl who fought that war went through complete hell. I don't think any movie can really pin down what those ppl went through.

I like it a lot.

I liked it a lot. But what do I know. I was a GRUNT for 9 years.

Cheers

:)

Vince Vaughn was totally unconvincing as the drill instructor. What may have been the worst scenes in recent movie history showed him being dragged to safety by the medic while firing his grease gun and another GI using the torso of a corpse as a shield while charging the enemy. The basic training station was at Fort Jackson (SC), but that didn't stop them from talking about the mountain view out the barracks window (there are no mountains anywhere close to Columbia). Smacking mortar rounds against a rock then throwing them like grenades was right out of Private Ryan.

There is no denying the war was hell, but this movie was preposterous.

Are you Damien Chazelle?

I'm in the Columbia, SC area. I mentioned this to a relative with more knowledge of the base than I though. He said that while there are no mountains, there are some parts of the base that are quite elevated (hilly) and could appear to be small mountains depending on what perspective you have from where you're located. Being in the sandhills of South Carolina, it makes sense. So while not literally accurate, it fits the perspective of some who have been on the base.
