Stolen work

One of my followers just emailed me to let me know that my Swinging Twins story is on ASSTR.

I've emailed copyright@asstr.org ... but don't expect much reaction...

There's an "author" named "Ken" who stole my story, and looking at his list of publications, I'd bet a bunch of them have been stolen from here. Here's his list:

Yup, he's pinched a bunch of mine, and I did ask Laurel forever ago what the site was going to do about it, seeing as they were lifted from here in the first place; the sound of her sticking her fingers in her ears and going 'la, la, la...' was well-nigh deafening...

alt.sex.stories is a Usenet newsgroup for erotic stories created on May 7, 1992 by Tim Pierce as an alternative to pre-existing alt erotica newsgroups.[1][better source needed] The group was initially unmoderated, a feature that was not shared by some of the other Usenet or altnet newsgroups. This feature allowed for greater user freedom.

It's a website for erotic and porn stories that to be blunt, sets no limits on content. Its very old style presentation and runs on what I'd guess w ould be a shoestring. You'll find everything from good stories to total rubbish.

We've been pushing a take down squad / buddy system for a while. We've also suggested that Lit's FAQ gives us the feeling that they will help protect our works. They make their money from what we've posted freely, they should want to protect that.

ASSTR is a website that I applied to about half a year ago and never received any sort of response. Oh well.

So, I'm probably gonna go the unpopular route here for a moment, because it doesn't sit well with me that Laurel/Manu appear to be unresponsive to these forms of thefts.

While I agree that it's unrealistic to expect only two people to be responsible for the thousands of stories posted on here, I think it is reasonable to expect that authors that post stories on here should think that Literotica will protect and secure their works. Even if it is only an acknowledged response about the problem.

That should be the deal. The authors provide the site with reading material. The site provides a place for people to read their original works.

Protection of work available openly on the Internet and that can be copied can't physically be protected. It's a never ending whack-a-mole failure to even try. At least we've gotten around to reality on this on the forum. You wouldn't believe the shit I've had poured over me for years in pointing out reality--with Lit. admin just sitting back and humming.

Seven/eight years ago the Web site posted hints they were active in trying to protect the stories and users believed them and parroted this. Some are still parroting it. It never happened, though. There might have been a few bluffs that worked, and more power to them--but that's what they were, bluffs. I suppose the Web site could have gone after host servers to see if moral suasion would work, but if they did, it hasn't worked. Now what you have is a sticky at the top of the AH from Manu on what you can try yourself if you want to try doing the whack-a-mole thing for a while.

At least that's a bow to reality. Users have the responsibility for submitting their work here or not and whatever happens after that in reality is what happens. No one can babysit them.
